Hudson is expected be called up as the 29th man to start a game in Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.

The right-hander was demoted to Triple-A Memphis last week and is poised to rejoin the Cardinals after only one outing in the minors. Hudson has a 4.43 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 72:56 K:BB across 126 innings this season and is likely to return to Memphis after the spot start.

Kahnle (forearm) was reinstated from the 60-day injured list Tuesday.

Kahnle has been on the shelf with the forearm injury since mid-May but will rejoin the Dodgers on Tuesday after a seven-game rehab assignment in the minors. The veteran right-hander has appeared in only four games this year as he spent the first month of the season finishing up his recovery from Tommy John surgery.

Hoeing was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Hoeing was called up to serve as the 29th man for Monday's doubleheader against Texas, and he picked up the win in the nightcap despite surrendering four runs over two innings. The right-hander has appeared in three major-league games this year and has given up 12 earned runs with a 4:3 K:BB across seven frames.

Littell was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

After giving up two earned runs over two-thirds of an inning and being visibly upset when he was pulled from Monday's victory over Atlanta, Littell is headed for the minor leagues. Thomas Szapucki was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Nardi was recalled from Triple-A Jacksonville on Tuesday, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

The 24-year-old was sent down Monday but will quickly rejoin the big-league club. Nardi was promoted in mid-August and allowed 13 earned runs with a 13:7 K:BB in eight innings across his first seven MLB appearances.

Szapucki was recalled from Triple-A Sacramento on Tuesday.

After recording a 1.08 ERA in Sacramento, Szapucki will make his return to the majors. The 26-year-old lefty has pitched four innings out of the bullpen for the Giants this year, recording a 2.25 ERA and 1.50 WHIP in that time. Fellow releiver Zack Littell was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Thompson (back) will begin a rehab assignment Friday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

Thompson has not encountered any issues since resuming throwing in late August, and he is ready to resume pitching in games. Barring any setbacks, he should rejoin the Cubs at some point before the season comes to a close.

Cruz will work as an opener in Game 2 of Tuesday's doubleheader against the Pirates, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Raynel Espinal is expected to be the primary pitcher out of the bullpen after Cruz gets a few outs to open the game. Cruz has a 1.93 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings over five appearances since getting promoted for September.

Bednar (back) will begin a rehab assignment Tuesday with Triple-A Indianapolis, Kevin Gorman of TribLive.com reports.

After missing more than a month of action with a back injury, Bednar is ready to get back up on the bump. It's unclear how many times he will throw in the minors before being activated from the injured list, but his return should not be far off.

Treinen (shoulder) played catch Sunday and expressed optimism that he'll be ready to return from the 15-day injured list prior to the postseason, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.

Treinen was shelved in late April with right shoulder discomfort and missed more than four months before being activated Sept. 2, only to land on the IL one week later following two relief appearances with the Dodgers. On a positive note, Treinen's latest setback with his shoulder doesn't appear to be a major concern, as the Dodgers haven't shut him down from throwing. He'll work on strengthening the shoulder over the next week or so before potentially making his way back from the IL shortly before the regular season ends Oct. 5.
