Peters was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday with a lower-back strain, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.

Peters apparently suffered the injury during Monday's start against the Reds, when he gave up four runs on four hits with three strikeouts and two walks. The left-hander will be eligible to return before the end of the season (assuming the move is retroactive), though it's unclear if he's expected to be activated for one final start in 2021.

Knehr will be recalled from Triple-A El Paso to start Friday's regularly scheduled game against Atlanta, Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

The two teams will resume a suspended game from July on Friday, and Knehr should officially join the major-league roster upon the completion of that contest to start the regularly scheduled game. Coincidently, Knehr originally started the suspended game and allowed three runs over 1.2 innings. Overall he has a 3.93 ERA, 1.42 WHIP and 13:13 K:BB across 18.1 big-league innings this season.

Jansen (4-4) earned the win over Colorado on Thursday, pitching a scoreless inning during which he allowed one hit and struck out two.

Though Jansen hasn't had a save opportunity since Saturday, he has picked up a pair of wins this week by hurling scoreless ninth frames prior to the Dodgers emerging with a 10th-inning win. The veteran closer allowed an inning-opening single to Charlie Blackmon on Thursday but was able to retire the next three batters to keep the game tied. Jansen has allowed only one run in 10 appearances in September.

Leone (3-5) allowed an unearned run on a hit and a walk to take the loss Thursday versus San Diego.

The right-hander was unable to escape a jam in the 10th inning that saw two runners in scoring position with one out. Leone hasn't had many missteps this year, but three of his five losses have come in September. The 29-year-old owns a 1.65 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 44:21 K:BB across 49 innings and he should continue to work in a high-leverage role.

Adam's contract was selected from Triple-A Iowa and he will be the 29th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Cardinals, Sahadev Sharma of The Athletic reports.

Adam has managed a 1.80 ERA in five minor-league innings this month, but his 8.22 mark with the Cubs earlier this season suggests he'll likely be limited to low-leverage relief work, if anything, during Friday's doubleheader.

Hudson (elbow) was activated from the 60-day injured list and is the 29th man for Friday's doubleheader against the Cubs.

It's unclear whether Hudson will be a starter or long reliever going forward for the Cardinals, but he could be deployed in tandem for the second game of Friday's twin bill with Jack Flaherty (shoulder), who will also be activated from the IL later in the day ahead of his Game 2 start. Hudson's next appearance will be his first of 2021 after he spent the past 12 months recovering from Tommy John surgery. After having thrown five innings in each of his last two rehab outings, Hudson shouldn't face any limitations in terms of workload.

Hudson (elbow) was pulled from his scheduled rehab start at Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday due to the possibility of a looming activation from the injured list, the team's official site reports.

The Cardinals are playing a total of five games from Thursday through Sunday, and manager Mike Shildt wanted to evaluate his pitching needs for the condensed period before having Hudson put more minor-league innings on his arm. The possibility exists the right-hander is activated at some point over the weekend and put right into action for the big-league club, although whether that would be as a starter or reliever remains to be seen.

Howard will start a bullpen game for the Pirates on Friday against the Phillies, Rob Biertempfel of The Athletic reports.

Howard has not thrown multiple innings in any of his last four outings and has not completed more than two frames across the entire season. Given that, he will likely be in for a very short outing. Miguel Yajure -- originally projected to start the game -- could serve as a bulk reliever after Howard's exit, though no official plans have been announced by the team.

Finnegan allowed two earned runs on two hits while striking out one across one inning, earning the save in the win over the Reds on Thursday.

Finnegan entered the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He almost blew the lead, allowing three batters to reach base safely, including a triple by Max Schrock. However, he was able to strike out Tyler Stephenson to end the game. He has two blown saves in his last four appearances. The 29-year-old has a 3.57 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with 63 strikeouts in 63 innings this season.

Treinen allowed one walk with no hits and no strikeouts across a scoreless 10th inning to earn the save Thursday against the Rockies.

Treinen was called upon to earn his fourth save of the season after Kenley Jansen threw a scoreless ninth inning to send the game to extra innings. With a runner starting on second base, Treinen walked the second batter he faced but induced a game-ending double play. Treinen has been an excellent high-leverage arm out of the Dodgers' bullpen, tallying 31 holds as well as maintaining a 1.95 ERA and 81:22 K:BB across 69.1 frames this season.
