Chavez had his contract selected by Atlanta to start Thursday's game at Cincinnati and is expected to pitch 2-3 innings, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

The right-hander has primarily worked as a reliever over the past three seasons, but he'll start Thursday's contest as manager Brian Snitker employs a bullpen game. Chavez struggled in 18 appearances for Texas last year with a 6.88 ERA, but he's pitched well at Triple-A Gwinnett in 2021 with a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 27:8 K:BB across 20 innings.

Hudson (elbow) was spotted playing catch from a short distance Thursday, Jesse Dougherty of The Washington Post reports.

Hudson remains in the early stages of his throwing program after he was placed on the injured list June 12 with right elbow inflammation. He'll likely need to complete multiple bullpen sessions and face live hitters in batting practice before the Nationals clear him to begin a rehab assignment. Hudson may have difficulty gaining clearance to rejoin the Nationals before the end of June, but a pre-All-Star break return is still realistic.

Sims' elbow sprain is expected to keep him out for 3-to-4 weeks, Charlie Goldsmith of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

The news certainly could have been a lot worse for the Reds, as this is Sims' second elbow issue of the year. He battled an elbow problem over the offseason and didn't appear in a Cactus League game until nearly the end of spring training. The given timeline means he'll return just after the All-Star break at the earliest and potentially not until late July. Sims had been the leading member of the Reds' closer committee, so other members of that committee such as Tejay Antone and Amir Garrett should see more opportunities in the ninth inning until he returns.

Flores was claimed off waivers by the Rockies on Thursday and was optioned to Triple-A Albuquerque.

Flores made a single relief appearance for the Cardinals back in early May, allowing a run on a hit and two walks while failing to record an out. He recorded an unimpressive 5.74 ERA and 1.86 WHIP in five starts and three relief appearances for Triple-A Memphis before being designated for assignment Tuesday. He'll serve as organizational depth for the Rockies for now.

Chavez will start Thursday's game against the Reds, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Chavez was let go by the Angels in late March, but he signed a minor-league deal with Atlanta in April and began the season with Triple-A Gwinnett. The 37-year-old posted a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP in 20 innings across 13 relief appearances, and he'll make a spot start Thursday. Since the right-hander has only pitched out of the bullpen across the past two seasons, Atlanta could rely heavily on its bullpen in Thursday's matchup.

Triple-A Albuquerque placed Rolison on the 7-day injured list June 14 after he had his appendix removed, MLB.com reports. Rockies manager Bud Black said Rolison is expected to be on the shelf for about six weeks.

Rolison, one of the Rockies' top pitching prospects in the upper levels of the minors, compiled a 4.38 ERA and 1.16 WHIP in 12.1 innings over his first three starts with Albuquerque following his promotion from Double-A Hartford. He's not expected to rejoin the Albuquerque rotation until early August, which could hamper the 23-year-old lefty's chances of receiving a late-season call-up to the majors.

Sims was placed on the 10-day injured list Thursday with a sprained right elbow.

Elbow issues are always worrisome for any pitcher, and they're especially worrisome for Sims, as he dealt with elbow troubles throughout the offseason and most of spring training. After a slow start to the season, he'd begun to settle down, allowing just one run over a stretch of 11 appearances while posting an 18:4 K:BB, but he was lit up for three runs while failing to record a single out Tuesday against the Twins. He leads the Reds in saves with seven, though the team has stuck with a committee approach, so fellow committee members Tejay Antone and Amir Garrett should pick up most of the slack going forward.

Diaz walked one and struck out two over 1.2 scoreless innings to record his 16th save of the season in Wednesday's 7-3 win over Atlanta.

He entered the game in the eighth inning to protect a 6-3 lead with runners on first and second and one out, but Diaz had little trouble converting his second five-out save of the year. The right-hander has reeled off seven straight conversions, posting a 1.08 ERA, 0.72 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB through 8.1 innings over that stretch.

Martin will start Friday's series opener against the Padres in San Diego, Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports.

Diamondbacks manager Torey Lovullo confirmed the assignment for Martin, who has not gotten off to a good start with the team. The 25-year-old right-hander has an 8.62 ERA and 2.04 WHIP over four outings (two starts). Martin believes he's trying to be too fine with his pitches, particularly with two strikes. "I think I'm picking the zone a little bit too much," he said. "I would say that at some point I try to be too perfect with two strikes and that's when I'm losing guys." Opposing batters are hitting .281/.395/.563 off Martin with two strikes, while the league average in those situations is .161/.237/.259.

Treinen (1-3) took the loss in a 5-3 defeat at the hands of San Diego, allowing two runs on two hits with a strikeout in one inning Wednesday.

Treinen took over for starter Trevor Bauer in the seventh and retired three straight Padres but encountered trouble when he came back out for the eighth and allowed two hits before being removed. Victor Gonzalez entered and allowed both inherited runners to score, which gave Treinen the loss. The earned runs snapped a five-inning scoreless stretch for Treinen that included five strikeouts with only two baserunners allowed. The veteran righty carries a 3.41 ERA and 1.21 WHIP for the season.
