Robert Gsellman RP | WAS
Mets' Robert Gsellman: Viewed as rotation option
General manager Brodie Van Wagenen said Gsellman will be a rotation option for the Mets in 2019, Matt Ehalt of The Bergen Record reports.
Gsellman transitioned to a relief role in 2018, posting a 4.28 ERA and 70:28 K:BB across 80.0 innings, but it sounds like he could get another look in the rotation next season. The 25-year-old righty has struggled as a starter at the big-league level, notching a career 4.60 ERA and 118:53 K:B in 29 starts (156.2 innings), so he seems more likely to return to the bullpen in 2019, at least to open the season. That said, Gsellman could get a shot in the rotation at some point if an opportunity arises via injuries or underperformance.

Tim Adleman RP | DET
Reds' Tim Adleman: Rejoins Reds on minor league deal
Adleman signed with the Reds on a minor-league deal and will report to their minor-league camp at spring training, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.
Adleman spent 2018 pitching in Korea, but threw 122.1 innings with the Reds in 2017, posting a 5.52 ERA and 1.43 WHIP. He's there for Triple-A depth, and a rainy day option for the Reds in the event that a slew of injuries strike.

J.J. Hoover RP | WAS
Nationals' J.J. Hoover: Links up with Washington
Hoover agreed to a minor-league contract Friday with the Nationals, Dave Clark of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.
Hoover made two appearances at the big-league level with the Brewers in 2018 but lost his spot on the 40-man roster and was later released from the organization shortly after serving up a walk-off home run against the Cardinals on April 10. The right-handed reliever took some time away from baseball after getting cut loose by Milwaukee but will try to get his career back on track with the Nationals. Hoover, who owns a 4.17 ERA and 9.3 K/9 across 285 career appearances in the majors, looks destined to open the season at Triple-A Fresno but should at least receive an opportunity to vie for a spot in the big-league bullpen this spring.

Derek Law RP | ARI
Giants' Derek Law: Off 40-man roster
Law was designated for assignment by the Giants on Friday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.
The Giants claimed John Andreoli off waivers and needed to clear space on the 40-man roster, prompting the move. Law spent the bulk of 2018 at Triple-A Sacramento, but did see major-league action in seven games and had a 7.43 ERA and 1.80 WHIP across 13.1 innings.

Brandon Maurer RP | KC
Pirates' Brandon Maurer: Signs minors deal with Pirates
Maurer agreed to a minor-league contract with the PIrates on Wednesday, Jon Heyman of FancredSports.com reports.
Maurer is coming off a difficult season in Kansas City, where he struggled to an ugly 7.76 ERA in 31.1 innings. The 28-year-old didn't fare much better with Triple-A Omaha, throwing 23 innings with an ERA of 5.48.

Jared Miller RP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Jared Miller: Sent to Triple-A
The Diamondbacks outrighted Miller to Triple-A Reno on Friday.
Miller cleared waivers after Arizona designated him for assignment last week when it needed to clear a 40-man roster spot for the newly signed Wilmer Flores. The southpaw reliever will likely open the upcoming campaign at Reno, where he posted a 7.71 ERA and 52:63 K:BB across 42 frames in 2018.

Nick Wittgren RP | SEA
Marlins' Nick Wittgren: Designated for assignment
Wittgren was designated for assignment by the Marlins on Tuesday, Andre Fernandez of The Athletic reports.
This is somewhat surprising, as Wittgren has compiled a serviceable 3.60 ERA across parts of three major-league seasons (127.2 innings), including a 2.94 ERA across 33.2 frames in 2018. The right-hander could draw interest on waivers given his prior major-league experience.

Sam Howard RP | DET
Rockies' Sam Howard: Re-signs with Colorado
Howard re-signed with the Rockies on a minor-league contract earlier this month, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Howard made four appearances out of the Colorado bullpen in 2018 but wasn't able to maintain his spot on the 40-man roster heading into the winter. He'll get the opportunity to compete for a bullpen gig with the big club in spring training, though it's most likely he'll end up at Triple-A Albuquerque to begin the campaign.

Brent Suter RP | ATL
Brewers' Brent Suter: Begins to throw
Suter (elbow) has started playing catch, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.
While Suter will likely miss nearly the entire 2019 season after undergoing Tommy John surgery in August, it's a good sign that his rehab is going smoothly to this point. Expect further updates on the left-hander's status as he clears more hurdles on the road to recovery.

Kenley Jansen RP | DET
Dodgers' Kenley Jansen: Feeling normal after heart surgery
Jansen threw his first offseason bullpen session Thursday and is feeling normal following November heart surgery, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.
Reports earlier in the offseason suggested things were going well for Jansen following a procedure to fix his irregular heartbeat, and it appears that things are continuing to trend in the right direction. Jansen is off his heart medication and does not expect to be affected by the issue moving forward. Assuming the problems don't resurface, expect him to continue being one of the top closers in the game in 2019.
