Dodgers' Michael Kopech: Needs rest, but fine physically

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Sunday that Kopech is "gassed" and will be held out from pitching for a few days, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

During Kopech's successful save against St. Louis on Sunday, he averaged 96.7 miles per hour on his 10 fastballs, two ticks below his season average of 98.7 mph. Roberts acknowledged after the contest that he has deployed the righty reliever more often than the White Sox did prior to the deal between the two teams at the trade deadline and suggested that Kopech isn't physically injured but will be held out a few games for rest purposes. Kopech pitched three times in four days from Thursday to Sunday, though he was relatively efficient with a total of 40 pitches during that span. If he is indeed uninjured, Kopech will likely be back to working in high leverage for the Dodgers before the end of the week and should continue to see frequent chances in a closing role. He's notched a save in both of his past two appearances and has posted 9.1 scoreless innings with a 13:1 K:BB and just one hit allowed over nine appearances since joining Los Angeles.

  • Pirates' Hunter Stratton: Back in big league

The Pirates recalled Stratton from Triple-A Indianapolis on Monday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Stratton was sent down to Triple-A on Aug. 9, but he returns to the 26-man roster Monday at the expense of Ryder Ryan, who was designated for assignment. After a rough start to the 2024 season, Stratton hadn't allowed a run in 7.1 innings out of the Pittsburgh bullpen before he was placed on the IL.

  • Ryder Ryan RP | LAD

Pirates' Ryder Ryan: Booted from 40-man roster

The Pirates designated Ryan for assignment Monday, Alex Stumpf of MLB.com reports.

Ryan will lose his spot on the 40-man roster for the second time in three weeks as part of a flurry of roster moves by Pittsburgh on Monday. The 29-year-old appeared in two games during this stint in the majors, allowing three runs across 3.2 innings. He has a 5.66 ERA in 20.2 innings for Pittsburgh this season.

  • Elvis Peguero RP | CHW

Brewers' Elvis Peguero: Optioned to Triple-A

The Brewers optioned Peguero to Triple-A Nashville on Monday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Peguero had posted a 1.38 ERA and 13:6 K:BB over his last 13 innings covering 15 appearances but nonetheless finds himself back in the minors. The Brewers have not yet announced a corresponding move, but Trevor Megill (back) returning from the injured list appears highly probable.

  • Jimmy Herget RP | COL

Braves' Jimmy Herget: Sent back to minors

Atlanta optioned Herget to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.

Herget's latest stint in the big leagues lasted a little less than a week and he was charged with one run over three innings covering two relief appearances. He's the roster casualty as Atlanta makes room for Reynaldo Lopez, who will return from the injured list to start Tuesday versus the Phillies.

  • Reds' Lyon Richardson: Goes on Triple-A IL

Triple-A Louisville placed Richardson on the 7-day injured list Sunday.

It's not clear what injury the right-hander is dealing with or how long he might be sidelined. Richardson has spent most of the season in Louisville's rotation but had been used in long relief in each of his last three appearances, allowing five runs over eight frames.

  • Reds' Casey Legumina: Sent to Triple-A

The Reds optioned Legumina to Triple-A Louisville on Monday.

Legumina's latest stint in the majors lasted one day, as he allowed four runs over two relief innings in Sunday's loss to the Royals. He's clearing out to make room on the roster for right-hander Julian Aguiar, who was called up from Triple-A to start Monday's contest in Toronto.

  • Adam Oller RP | MIA

    Marlins' Adam Oller: Contract selected

The Marlins selected Oller's contract from Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

Oller will start Monday's contest against the Diamondbacks after posting a 2.88 ERA and 24:7 K:BB over 25 innings covering three starts and three relief appearances with Jacksonville. Given the state of the Marlins' rotation, Oller is a candidate to make multiple starts.

  • George Soriano RP | STL

Marlins' George Soriano: Exits active roster

The Marlins optioned Soriano to Triple-A Jacksonville on Monday.

Soriano permitted four runs over eight relief innings during his most recent stint in the majors. Adam Oller will absorb his roster spot.

  • Thyago Vieira RP | ARI

    Diamondbacks' Thyago Vieira: Clears waivers

The Diamondbacks outrighted Vieira to Triple-A Reno on Aug. 2.

Though Vieira remains a member of Arizona's organization after clearing waivers earlier this month, he has yet to pitch for Reno since being cast off the 40-man roster. Reno placed him on its restricted list Aug. 9 for unspecified reasons.
