Joyce was diagnosed with a right shoulder impingement Saturday, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.

Joyce initially landed on the injured list Tuesday due to inflammation in his shoulder; however, his latest diagnosis increases the likelihood that the 23-year-old reliever will be held out for the remainder of the season. His return timeline remains unknown for now.

The Padres optioned Cosgrove to Triple-A El Paso on Saturday.

Cosgrove came up from the minors Wednesday as a roster replacement for Martin Perez (paternity), and he'll head back to Triple-A now that Perez has returned. The 28-year-old Cosgrove didn't appear in a game during his three-day stint in the big leagues.

The Diamondbacks selected Hughes' contract from Triple-A Reno on Saturday.

With Ryne Nelson (shoulder) headed for the injured list, Hughes will rejoin the active roster in order to give the Diamondbacks some additional depth in their bullpen. The 28-year-old lefty hasn't found much success in the big leagues with a 10.29 ERA across 14 innings, though he's turned in a 2.08 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 21.2 frames at Triple-A since making his last MLB appearance. Andrew Knizner was DFA'd to create space for Hughes on the 40-man roster.

Brieske will serve as the opener for Saturday's game against Baltimore, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Brieske worked as the opener Friday and pitched 1.1 scoreless innings without allowing a baserunner. He should work one or two more innings Saturday and is expected to give way to Ty Madden.

The Phillies optioned Lazar to Triple-A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

After coming up from Triple-A in late August, Lazar surrendered seven earned runs over just eight innings. His poor performance will cause him to be sent back to the minors while Kolby Allard rejoins the big-league squad to start Saturday's game.

Santos (biceps) allowed an earned run on a walk over two-thirds of an inning in Triple-A Tacoma's win over Oklahoma City on Friday. He struck out two.

Making the third appearance of his current rehab assignment, Santos was charged with a run for the first time, although it came via a double allowed by Kirby Snead after the former had exited the game. Santos threw 17 pitches overall and has made his three appearances within a span of seven days, indicating he may be ready for activation at any point.

Hader struck out two in a perfect ninth inning Friday to record his 30th save of the season in a 5-3 win over the Angels.

The veteran closer picked up his first save in September to notch 30 in a season for the fifth time in his career. Hader is having a bit of a bumpy finish to the regular season, getting tagged for at least one run in four of his last seven appearances, but on the season he still sports a 3.36 ERA, 0.92 WHIP and dominant 38.2 percent strikeout rate. The 30-year-old sits just five saves away from 200 for his career, a mark he could still reach with a hot couple weeks to wrap up 2024.

Chargois (3-1) got the win against the Rangers on Friday, striking out the side in a perfect eighth inning.

Chargois retired Jonah Heim, Leody Taveras and Carson Kelly on 14 pitches with the Mariners down two runs in the eighth, and he then reaped the rewards for his dominance when Julio Rodriguez slugged a go-ahead three-run home run in the home half of the frame. Chargois now has three consecutive scoreless relief appearances of at least an inning each, and Friday's outing lowered his ERA back under 3.00 (2.87) for the first time since Aug. 24.

The Royals recalled Zerpa from Triple-A Omaha on Saturday.

With Chris Stratton (forearm) headed for the injured list, the Royals will call upon Zerpa to help get their bullpen through the final couple weeks of the regular season. The 24-year-old southpaw owns a 4.40 ERA and 1.57 WHIP through 47 big-league innings on the year and will most likely serve in middle relief while with Kansas City.

The Royals placed Stratton on the 15-day injured list Saturday with a right forearm flexor strain.

Stratton surrendered two earned runs over an inning out of the bullpen Friday, but he appears to have come away from his latest outing with an injury. He won't be eligible to return from the IL until the final game of the season Sept. 29, and it's possible the Royals elect to keep him on the shelf until the start of the postseason, assuming they hang onto their wild-card spot. Until then, Angel Zerpa will come up from the minors to fill the opening in Kansas City's bullpen.
