Clevinger (6-6) allowed a run on one hit and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings to earn the win Sunday over the Athletics.

This was the second time in three starts Clevinger has gone seven innings. He's walked eight batters and struck out 21 while allowing five runs over 19 innings in that span. The right-hander is now at a 3.32 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and 85:38 K:BB through 97.2 innings across 18 starts this season. Clevinger is projected to make his next start at home versus the Tigers.

Syndergaard was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Sunday, Julia Kreuz of MLB.com reports.

Syndergaard was traded from the Dodgers to the Guardians in late July, and he made six starts for his new club. He was inconsistent during his time with Cleveland and will lose his spot on the 40-man roster after giving up five runs on four hits and three walks while striking out three in six innings Sunday against the Blue Jays. Cal Quantrill (shoulder) is slated to return from the injured list this week, so Syndergaard was no longer needed as a starter. If he clears waivers, it wouldn't be surprising to see Syndergaard elect free agency so he can seek out another organization for the final month of the regular season.

Canning did not factor into the decision Sunday, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over seven innings against the Mets. He struck out nine.

Canning was excellent in his first start since July 25, though he was ultimately stuck with a no-decision as the Angels couldn't generate enough run support in a 3-2 loss. Since returning from the IL, the 27-year-old Canning has also made a pair of appearances out of the bullpen, allowing five runs over seven innings. He should stick in the rotation now with Shohei Ohtani (elbow) done pitching for the year. Canning's currently lined up for a road matchup with the A's in his next start.

Ryu (3-1) picked up the win Saturday, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits over five-plus innings in an 8-3 victory over the Guardians. He struck out five without walking a batter.

The veteran southpaw got hit hard on occasion, serving up solo shots to Jose Ramirez and light-hitting Tyler Freeman, but the only other run on his ledger came after he exited the game in the top of the sixth and was helped along by a Matt Chapman error. Ryu's ratios have been aided by unearned runs in three straight starts, but he's won all three and has a 2.25 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 20:5 K:BB through 24 innings since making his return from Tommy John surgery. On the downside, he has yet to record an out in the sixth inning in any of his five outings. Ryu could carry some extra fantasy risk in his next start, which is likely to come next weekend in Coors Field.

Allen (6-7) took the loss Saturday, coughing up five runs on six hits and a walk over four innings as the Guardians were downed 8-3 by the Blue Jays. He struck out two.

The rookie left-hander got staked to a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning thanks to a Jose Ramirez solo shot, but he immediately squandered it, and Cleveland never recovered. It's the first time Allen hasn't lasted at least five innings since late June, and despite Saturday's stumble he sports a 3.80 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 39:17 K:BB through 45 innings since he rejoined the big-league rotation after the All-Star break. He'll look to bounce back in his next outing, likely to come at home next weekend against the Rays.

Paxton did not factor into the decision Saturday, allowing four runs on four hits and five walks over 4.1 innings against the Dodgers. He struck out four.

The veteran lefty allowed individual runs in the first and fourth innings before a Max Muncy two-run homer chased Paxton from the game with one out in the fifth. This marks back-to-back starts in which he has failed to complete five innings, causing his second-half ERA to rise to 5.82 alongside a 1.66 WHIP across 38.2 innings. Paxton is currently projected to make a road start against the Royals next week.

Brown (10-9) earned the win Saturday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over five innings against Detroit. He struck out nine.

Brown bounced back from a poor last start in which he surrendered six runs across 2.2 innings against Seattle to limit the Tigers to four hits on the day. He also notched his best strikeout total since May 26 (14 starts) and gave up just one extra-base hit. The 24-year-old has been very inconsistent as of late, giving up four or more runs in four of his last eight starts while yielding two in each of the other four. He's expected to toe the rubber against the Yankees next.

Rodriguez (9-7) took the loss Saturday, allowing four runs on five hits and four walks over 4.2 innings against the Astros. He struck out one.

Rodriguez struggled to get through the Astros order and was unable to retire Alex Bregman specifically. In three at-bats against Rodriguez, Bregman collected a double, a two-run home run and a walk. The free pass was one of four dished out by Rodriguez, who set a season high in the category while tying his season-worst mark in strikeouts. The southpaw is tentatively scheduled to make his next start during a four-game home stand against the Yankees next week.

Toussaint (2-6) earned the win Saturday, allowing two hits and three walks over five scoreless innings in a 6-2 victory over the Athletics. He struck out four.

After entering Saturday's contest with an 8.84 ERA and a 25:18 K:BB in August (18.1 innings), Toussaint held the A's scoreless across five frames. However, his control issues persisted, as he handed out three or more walks for a fifth consecutive appearance. Toussaint will have an opportunity to build on Saturday's strong performance, with the White Sox kicking off September with two series against the Tigers sandwiched around one versus the Royals.

Sears (2-11) took the loss Saturday, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks over six innings against the White Sox. He struck out eight.

Though Sears went six innings for the first time since July 16 and turned in his best strikeout total since June 22, he fell to his 11th loss of the campaign and surrendered six runs. He struggled to keep the ball in the park, giving up a trio of home runs on the day, including solo home runs by Lenyn Sosa and Andrew Benintendi and a three-run shot by Yoan Moncada. Over his last two starts (10 innings) Sears has given up 13 runs and five home runs while holding a 12:4 K:BB. He's tentatively lined up to take on the Angels in his next outing.
