Sauer (forearm) retired just two hitters and allowed five runs (four earned) on two hits and one walk while striking out one in a rehab outing Monday for the Yankees' rookie-level Florida Complex League affiliate.

Sauer has spent the entire 2023 season on Double-A Somerset's 7-day injured list while recovering from a right forearm strain. Though he's reached the final phase of his recovery program, Sauer looks like he'll need at least a couple more outings in the FCL or the lower levels of the minors before rejoining the Somerset rotation.

Cole (cramps) is listed as the Yankees' scheduled starter for Friday's home game against the Red Sox.

Cole will return to the mound on five days' rest after his most recent start last Saturday against the Dodgers was cut short when he experienced cramping. The Yankees didn't send in the right-hander for any further testing, so Cole never looked to be at any major risk of missing out what will be his 14th start of the season. Cole carries a 7-0 record, 2.82 ERA and 1.13 WHIP into Friday's contest.

Kluber allowed seven runs on 11 hits and one walk while striking out one over 3.1 relief innings in Thursday's 10-3 loss to Cleveland.

Kluber made his third appearance since moving from the rotation to the bullpen, taking over from Matt Dermody in the fifth inning. and he was left in for an ugly sixth inning despite allowing eight consecutive hits to start the frame. Manager Alex Cora told Ian Browne of MLB.com that he wanted to "reset our bullpen" and get ready for a three-game weekend series in New York against the Yankees. Kluber, who was Boston's Opening Day starter and a two-time Cy Young Award winner in his days with Cleveland, watched his ERA swell to 7.13 following the outing as he tries to adjust to a low-leverage role.

Detmers (1-5) earned the win Thursday, allowing one run on five hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Cubs. He struck out eight.

Detmers finally earned his first win of the campaign after several mediocre outings. This was the southpaw's first time not allowing multiple runs in a start this season. The 23-year-old is tentatively slated to face the Rangers on the road in his next appearance.

Civale (2-1) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings against the Red Sox. He struck out three.

Civale has pitched well since coming back from the IL, giving up just two runs over his last 9.2 innings. The right-hander has also kept hitters in the ballpark, giving up just one home run across four starts thus far. The veteran is tentatively slated to face the Padres on the road in his next appearance.

Berrios (6-4) earned the win Thursday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over six innings against the Astros. He struck out two.

Berrios continues his hot streak, as he has now allowed just four runs across his last four starts. The former Twin also has 70 strikeouts through 13 appearances this year, which puts him on pace for his highest total since 2019. The right-hander is tentatively slated to face the Orioles on the road in his next start.

Valdez (6-5) took the loss Thursday, allowing three runs on four hits and four walks over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out five.

Valdez had his worst start in almost a month, as he had allowed just one run across his previous three appearances. However, the southpaw still has quality numbers for the season, posting a 2.36 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 89 strikeouts, which ranks seventh in the league. The veteran is tentatively slated to face the Nationals at home in his next appearance.

Clevinger (3-4) took the loss against the Yankees in the second game of a doubleheader Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out two batters over 5.2 innings.

Clevinger fell one out shy of a quality start and kept the White Sox within striking range with a decent outing, but Chicago's offense was shut out, causing the veteran to take his fourth loss. Clevinger was doomed by the long ball, as all three of the runs he allowed came via homers. The right-hander also punched out only two batters, and he's posted a modest 48 strikeouts across 58 frames on the season, which is a far cry from the above-average strikeout rates he posted earlier in his career. Clevinger has however held his opponent to three or fewer earned runs in four straight starts, his longest such stretch this season.

Severino took a no-decision in Game 1 of Thursday's doubleheader against the White Sox, allowing four runs on six hits and two walks while striking out six batters over five innings.

Per Bryan Hoch of MLB.com, there was some talk that Severino may have been tipping his pitches in his previous outing against the Dodgers, but if that was the case there didn't seem to be much of an adjustment Thursday against Chicago. The right-hander again had trouble keeping the ball in the park, as the White Sox teed off for three homers against him to account for all four of their runs. Severino has now given up six long balls across nine innings over his past two starts after allowing just one home run in 11.1 frames during his first two appearances of the campaign. On a positive note, Severino's six punchouts Thursday were a season high, but he's going to find success difficult to come by if teams continue to consistently take him deep.

Lynn allowed five runs on eight hits and three walks while striking out four batters over five innings in the first game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Yankees. He did not factor in the decision.

Half of the eight hits Lynn allowed in the outing went for extra bases, including a fourth-inning homer off the bat of Willie Calhoun. This was the fifth time in 13 starts the right-hander has given up at least five runs, which has resulted in an unsightly 6.72 ERA. Lynn had appeared to be putting things together during a three-start stretch between May 16 and May 26 during which he went 3-0 with a 1.89 ERA and 1.11 WHIP over 19 innings, but he's since regressed by allowing 13 runs over nine frames in his past two outings. The veteran has finished a season with an ERA over 4.00 just once over 11 big-league campaigns coming into 2023, but it would take a drastic turnaround for him to get below that mark over the remainder of the current season.
