Rodon (back/forearm) threw 20 pitches in a live bullpen session before Wednesday's game against Chicago, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Rodon told Phillips he threw around 20 pitches to Oswaldo Cabrera and Jake Bauers in the session. His fastball reportedly sat 92-94 mph, and he threw all of his pitches in the outing. The next step for the southpaw is another live session, but he's unsure when that will take place. Rodon has missed all of the 2023 campaign with forearm and back trouble, but in theory he could make his first-ever start as a member of the Yankees near the end of June if he continues to progress on schedule.

Gibson allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings Tuesday against the Brewers. He did not factor into the decision.

The Brewers had five batters reach base against Gibson in the opening frame, leading to their only two runs against him. Gibson was able to settle in afterward and even struck out the side in the fifth to finish his day on a strong note. His seven strikeouts were his most since he piled up 11 back on April 22 and he's now allowed two runs or fewer in four of his last six starts. The 35-year-old sports a 3.87 ERA, 1.32 WHIP and 54:25 K:BB over 76.2 innings and is tentatively expected to take the mound next against the Royals over the weekend.

The Athletics announced Wednesday that Miller (elbow) has resumed a throwing program, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Miller will presumably need the next week or two to increase his long-toss distance off flat ground before he's cleared for mound work. After throwing a handful of bullpen sessions, Miller would then need to throw a live batting practice session or two before advancing to a minor-league rehab assignment, so he's still realistically a month or longer away from making a return to the Oakland rotation. Before being placed on the 15-day injured list May 11 with a mild UCL sprain in his right elbow, Miller logged a 3.38 ERA, 0.98 WHIP and 22:7 K:BB over 21.1 innings in his first four big-league starts.

Crawford is listed as the Red Sox's starting pitcher for Wednesday's game in Cleveland.

Just as manager Alex Cora suggested would be the case earlier in the week, Crawford will fill the opening in the Boston rotation that was created by Chris Sale's (shoulder) move to the injured list last weekend. Because he's largely been serving as a reliever since late April, Crawford hasn't tossed more than four innings or 52 pitches in any of his last seven outings in the majors, so he may have some workload restrictions in place for a start or two while he gets stretched back out.

Olson will start Wednesday's game against the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park.

Though he ended up taking a loss last Friday in Chicago versus the White Sox, Olson held his own in his MLB debut, striking out six over five innings while allowing two earned runs on just two hits and one walk. With several starting pitching candidates still residing on the injured list, Olson should have a decent amount of leash in the Detroit rotation if he can remain serviceable in his future outings.

Hoglund (biceps) allowed four earned runs on six hits and one walk while striking out one over three innings in his 2023 debut May 29 after being activated from Single-A Stockton's 7-day injured list.

The right-hander missed most of the first two months of the season while recovering from a biceps injury that dated back to last August. Though his results in his season debut left something to be desired, the Athletics are likely just happy to see the 23-year-old back on the mound again after the biceps injury and his recovery from Tommy John surgery have limited him to just three appearances as a professional since he was drafted in 2021.

Bieber didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Red Sox, allowing one run on five hits and a walk over 5.2 innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander blanked Boston for five innings before running into a bit of trouble in the sixth, but Bieber still exited the game in line for his fifth win of the year after 95 pitches (61 strikes). Strikeouts have all but disappeared from Bieber's arsenal -- he's fanned four batters or fewer in 11 of 13 starts this season -- but he's still been effective, posting a 3.57 ERA, 1.28 WHIP and 55:22 K:BB through 80.2 innings. He's next set to take the mound this weekend for a home start against the Astros.

Paxton (2-1) picked up the win Tuesday, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks over seven innings in a 5-4 victory over the Guardians. He struck out nine.

The veteran southpaw looked like he was in for a short night after needing 28 to get through the first inning, putting Boston in a 2-0 hole, but Paxton got locked in after that and gave his club a chance to come back. The quality start was his second in five outings since coming off the IL, and he'll carry a 3.81 ERA, 1.23 WHIP and impressive 36:9 K:BB through 26 innings into his next start, likely to come at home early next week against the Rockies.

Dunning (5-1) allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out one over 5.2 innings to earn the win over St. Louis on Tuesday. He also hit a batter.

It was an off day for Dunning, who ceded all four runs on three home runs. He hadn't allowed a homer in the first 48 innings pitched prior to Tuesday. And the four runs were the most he's allowed in any of the six starts as a replacement for Jacob deGrom (elbow). Luckily, Dunning was backed by a powerful Texas lineup, which flipped a 2-0 first-inning deficit by scoring runs in innings two through five to make him a winner. The Rangers announced Tuesday that deGrom will undergo Tommy John surgery, and it's expected Dunning will remain in the rotation.

Gausman (5-3) picked up the win in Tuesday's 5-1 victory over the Astros, allowing one run on four hits over seven innings. He struck out 13 without walking a batter.

One day after Alek Manoah lasted only one-third of an inning and lost his spot in the rotation, Gausman gave his bullpen a needed breather with another dominant performance. The veteran right-hander generated 36 called or swinging strikes among his 101 pitches as he tied his career high with 13 strikeouts, and if it weren't for a Mauricio Dubon leadoff homer, he might have taken aim at his first career shutout. Gausman has 10 quality starts and six double-digit strikeout efforts among his 13 outings this season, and he'll take a 2.63 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and eye-popping 113:18 K:BB through 82 innings into his next start, likely to come at home this weekend against the Twins.
