Lyles (2-4) was tagged with the loss Wednesday against the Yankees, allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits and no walks while striking out eight over seven innings.

This was one of Lyles' best outings of the campaign -- he notched a season-high eight strikeouts and completed seven frames for just the second time -- but he was outdueled by Gerrit Cole and consequently was handed his fourth loss. The right-hander nonetheless has plenty of positives to take from this performance against a formidable Yankees offense, as he racked up 13 swinging strikes and didn't walk a batter for the first time this season. Lyles will look to carry that momentum into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to be a rematch against New York on the road early next week.

Rasmussen (4-1) allowed four hits and no walks while striking out seven across five scoreless innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Tigers.

Rasmussen allowed two hits in the first inning but proceeded to retire 12 of the last 14 batters he faced. He recorded more than five strikeouts in a start for only the second time this season, which was backed by an impressive 20 swinging strikes across 87 total pitches. Rasmussen has now allowed one or fewer earned runs in each of his last five starts, spanning 26.2 frames. Overall, he's maintained a 2.33 ERA with a 34:8 K:BB across 38.2 innings.

Cole (4-0) earned the win over Baltimore on Wednesday, pitching seven innings and allowing two runs on six hits while striking out five batters.

Cole demonstrated excellent control throughout the contest, throwing 70 of 97 pitches for strikes and yielding no walks for the first time this season. He didn't fan any batters through the first three innings, struck out five straight between the fourth and fifth frames, then went the rest of his outing without another punchout. The right-hander had a 6.35 ERA through his first three outings this season but has brought that number all the way down to 2.89 with five straight quality starts. His next start is lined up to be a rematch against the Orioles -- this time in New York -- early next week.

Gray (1-1) allowed two earned runs on six hits and no walks while striking out five across six innings to earn the win Wednesday against the Athletics.

Gray allowed a run in each of the first and third innings, but he retired the last 10 batters he faced to turn in a solid performance. He induced eight groundouts, though he backed up his five strikeouts with only four swinging strikes across 84 total pitches. Even so, the performance was a step forward for Gray, as he turned in his longest outing of the campaign. Overall, he has a 3.48 ERA with a 25:9 K:BB across 20.2 frames this season.

Gil was removed from his start with Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Wednesday after gesturing to his right elbow, Conor Foley of The Scranton Times-Tribune reports.

The 24-year-old was making his first start back with the RailRiders after a brief stint with the Yankees, but his return outing was cut short by the injury. The specifics of the injury remain unclear, but any arm issue is a worrying sign for Gil, who's struggled to a 9.53 ERA at Triple-A this year.

Paddack (elbow) underwent Tommy John surgery Wednesday, Betsy Helfand of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

The 25-year-old was already facing an extended absence after being placed on the 60-day injured list with elbow inflammation last week, and he's now undergone Tommy John surgery for the second time in his career. Paddack will miss the rest of the season and will also be sidelined for at least the first half of the 2023 campaign.

Quantrill won't start as scheduled Wednesday against the Reds since the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

Both teams share a scheduled day off Thursday, so the Wednesday's game will simply be pushed back a day. The Guardians haven't officially announced their pitching plans, but Quantrill is expected to take the mound Thursday.

Suarez was recalled from Triple-A Salt Lake on Wednesday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Suarez was sent down by the Angels on May 1, and he posted a 5.40 ERA and 1.30 WHIP in 10 innings over two starts in the minors. The Angels currently have six starters on their major-league roster, so Suarez will likely be available out of the bullpen for now after Cesar Valdez was designated for assignment.

Manager A.J. Hinch said that Rodriguez will likely be headed to the 15-day injured list after exiting his start in Wednesday's 6-1 loss to the Rays with left side discomfort, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Detroit may wait until after Thursday's off day to make the transaction official, but initial evaluations of Rodriguez's injury didn't provide much optimism about him being ready to go the next time his turn comes up in the rotation. The lefty is scheduled to undergo an MRI later Wednesday or Thursday, which should shed more light on the extent of the injury and reveal whether he's potentially dealing with an oblique strain. Rodriguez was pulled with one out in the first inning of his start Wednesday after showing diminished velocity while pumping in only 11 of his 23 pitches for strikes and allowing three earned runs on four hits and two walks.

The Red Sox are expected to bring Wacha (intercostal) back from the 15-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Mariners, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Wacha apparently checked out fine after throwing a two-inning simulated game Monday, so unless he experiences a setback in the next couple of days, he'll be ready to reclaim his spot in Boston's rotation. Prior to being placed on the IL with left intercostal irritation, Wacha went 3-0 with a 1.38 ERA and 0.92 WHIP in 26 innings over his first five starts.
