Montgomery will start Tuesday against the Rays, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The announcement is something of a surprise, as it was reported over the weekend that Montgomery wasn't likely to pitch again this season. He threw just two innings in his only appearance of the year back on Sept. 15, so it's likely that he'll be more of an opener than a starter on this occasion. The Yankees have yet to announce who will follow Montgomery as the bulk reliever.

Snell allowed one run on two hits and three walks while striking out three through 1.2 innings in a no-decision against the Red Sox on Monday.

Snell struggled with his command, allowing three free passes before being pulled in the second inning after allowing a run on a double. The Rays are still easing Snell back into his usual workload, and he was not expected to pitch more than a few innings. The 26-year-old has a 4.21 ERA with 143 strikeouts through 22 starts this season. Snell is scheduled to make his next start Sunday against the Blue Jays at Rogers Centre.

Chirinos is scheduled to start against the Yankees on Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Chirinos returned from the injured list over the weekend, making an appearance out of the bullpen Saturday against the Red Sox and allowing one run while striking out two batters in one inning. The right-hander will likely work longer Tuesday, though he'll still be limited as he slowly builds back up following his lengthy absence. Brendan McKay, who was originally scheduled to start Tuesday, is a candidate to piggyback Chirinos.

Carrasco (6-7) picked up the win Sunday against the Phillies, allowing just one hit while striking out three batters across 2.2 scoreless innings.

Carrasco took over for starter Adam Plutko in the fifth inning with one out and runners at the corners and proceeded to get J.T. Realmuto to ground into an inning-ending double play to escape the frame with the game still knotted at one. The Indians scored three in the bottom of the inning and six more in the seventh as Carrasco cruised through the next two frames to pick up his sixth win of the season, and second since returning from the IL at the beginning of September. The right-hander appears to have found his footing after allowing at least one run in four of his first six appearances back; over his past three appearances, Carrasco has posted a 3:2 K:BB while allowing just one hit across five innings of relief.

Bassitt allowed only one baserunner and struck out five over three scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's 8-3 loss to the Rangers.

Bassitt was making his second appearance in relief since being dropped from the rotation following a rough start against this same Rangers squad Sept. 13. He's quickly emerged as a weapon in the new role, spinning four scoreless innings while striking out seven. Expect Bassitt to see plenty of high-leverage relief work in the postseason should the Athletics secure a wild-card spot and ultimately advance to the ALDS.

Manager Bob Melvin confirmed Sunday that Luzardo will remain in the bullpen for the final week of the regular season, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

The young southpaw has logged three appearances since his callup thus far and impressed with a 2.57 ERA and 8:3 K:BB across seven frames. Although Luzardo's arm is sufficiently stretched out from his time in the minors, Melvin apparently plans to continue deploying him in a variety of roles out of the bullpen as the Athletics continue their quest to solidify a postseason spot.

Milone will serve as the Mariners' primary pitcher behind opener Justin Dunn in Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Milone turned in one of his better bulk-relief showings his last time out Sept. 18 in Pittsburgh, keeping the Pirates off the board for five innings while allowing just two baserunners. He'll likely have more difficulty finding success against a power-packed Houston lineup that still has something to play for this week with home-field advantage in the postseason still up for grabs. The southpaw will tentatively line up for another turn as a primary pitcher in Sunday's season finale versus the Athletics.

Dunn is slated to serve as the Mariners' opening pitcher in Tuesday's game against the Astros.

Dunn will pick up his third MLB start after tossing two shutout innings while opening in front of primary pitcher Tommy Milone on Sept. 18 in Pittsburgh. The rookie is likely in line for a two- or three-inning appearance Tuesday while Milone covers the bulk of the innings again out of the bullpen.

Severino (1-0) earned the win against Toronto on Sunday, completing five scoreless innings and giving up three hits. He struck out nine and did not walk any batters.

Severino appeared to be in peak form in his second start of the season, allowing only four baserunners in the dominant performance. After throwing 67 pitches in his debut, the 25-year-old was stretched to 80 on Sunday, making it through five innings to qualify for the win. Severino has not missed a beat despite sitting out most of the season with shoulder and lat injuries; through his first two starts, he has hurled nine scoreless innings while racking up 13 strikeouts. He'll make his final appearance of the regular season at Texas on Saturday before heading into the postseason.

Suarez worked on a "mechanical fix" in his appearance against Houston on Sunday, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.

Suarez had thrown at least 59 pitches in each of his previous outings this season but was limited to 34 tosses over two innings against the Astros. The short appearance was purposely set up to allow Suarez to focus on the mechanical fix he had recently made to his delivery. The 21-year-old gave up one run on two hits while striking out two batters in his two innings of work and reported feeling good about his form following the game.
