  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Sent to Triple-A

Cortes was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on Monday.

Cortes spent just two days on the big-league roster, throwing three scoreless innings in his lone appearance. He'll make way for Masahiro Tanaka, who returns from the paternity list to start Monday against the Mets.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Begins rehab assignment

Mejia (calf) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Fort Myers on Monday, Brandon Warne of ZoneCoverage.com reports.

Mejia has been out since the beginning of May with a strained right calf. He recorded an ugly 8.74 ERA in 11.1 innings of relief work before hitting the injured list. After missing nearly six weeks, it's likely that he'll need at least a handful of rehab appearances before returning to the big leagues. It's possible he isn't given a major-league roster spot once healthy, but he's out of options, so the Twins are likely to give him a chance to work through his early struggles.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rangers' Drew Smyly: Drilled for five runs

Smyly (1-5) allowed five runs on six hits and two walks in three innings Sunday, striking out three batters and taking the loss to Oakland.

Smyly was cursed by a pair of two-run homers hit by Khris Davis and Matt Olson. Over his last three starts, the 29-year-old lefty has thrown just 11.1 innings, yielding 17 runs and seven long balls. His ERA now sits at a hideous 8.40 across 45 frames. He'll take the mound in Cincinnati on Friday.

  • Frankie Montas RP | NYM

Athletics' Frankie Montas: Whiffs 10 in victory

Montas (8-2) yielded three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk in six innings Sunday, fanning 10 batters and taking the victory over Texas.

Montas was gifted an 8-0 lead through four innings and took full advantage. His 10 strikeouts tied a career high that he set last month. The 26-year-old is enjoying a breakout campaign with a 2.84 ERA and a 79:20 K:BB across 76 innings this season. Montas will face the Mariners at home Saturday.

  • Nathan Eovaldi SP | TEX

Red Sox's Nathan Eovaldi: Hits snag in rehab

Eovaldi (elbow) had his scheduled bullpen session canceled Sunday after he experienced biceps tendinitis, Christopher Smith of MassLive.com reports.

Manager Alex Cora didn't specify how long Eovaldi would be shut down before throwing again, but the development isn't an ideal one for a pitcher who has already required Tommy John surgery twice during his career and procedures to remove loose bodies in his elbow in each of the past two seasons. Even if he bounces back quickly from the biceps setback, Eovaldi will still likely require one or two rehab starts before being activated from the 10-day injured list.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Pitches three scoreless innings

Cortes didn't factor into the decision as he struck out two through three scoreless innings of relief work against the Indians on Sunday.

Cortes entered the game after Chad Green delivered two scoreless innings as an opener and came through with three scoreless innings of his own. While he has worked as a starter in the minors this season, he has yet to make a start in the majors. Cortes has a 3.86 ERA through 14 innings.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Yields two homers in loss

Rodriguez (6-4) allowed four runs on seven hits with seven strikeouts and two walks while taking a loss against the Rays on Sunday.

The left-hander went five straight starts in late April and early May without giving up a homer, but he's allowed five in his last four starts. Rodriguez tossed up two more long balls Sunday. With 80 strikeouts in 72 innings, Rodriguez is valuable in that category, but he's somewhat of a liability in other areas. While he is 6-4, Rodriguez owns a 5.00 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. His next start is scheduled to be at the Orioles on Friday.

  • Shane Bieber SP | TOR

Indians' Shane Bieber: Crushed in no-decision

Bieber gave up five runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four through 1.2 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday.

Bieber struck out the side in the first inning before collapsing in a five-run second inning. While he is having a decent season overall, the home runs are becoming a problem as he has allowed six in his last three starts. He has a 5-2 record with a 4.07 ERA and 11.2 K/9 through 13 starts this season. Bieber will make his next start Saturday on the road against the Tigers.

  • White Sox's Odrisamer Despaigne: Expected to start Monday

Despaigne is expected to have his contract selected from Triple-A Charlotte to start Monday's game against the Nationals, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

The move hasn't been made official just yet, but Despaigne is in line to make his White Sox debut in the series opener. He made stops with the Marlins and Angels a season ago but struggled to a 6.69 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with a 35 :19 K:BB across 39 innings. Chicago will need to make a corresponding move in order to add Despaigne to the 40-man roster.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Strikes out seven in win

Snell (4-5) allowed one run on five hits with seven strikeouts and one walk across six innings to earn a victory against the Red Sox on Sunday.

With this victory, Snell captured his first win since May 6 and bounced back from his last outing, where he yielded six runs. Snell hasn't pitched poorly over the last month (he's posted a 2.88 ERA over his last seven outings), but he hasn't been given enough run support to win games regularly. He is 4-5 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, .224 batting average against and 98 strikeouts in 72 innings this season. Snell will make his next start at home against the Angels.
