Drew Smyly SP | CHC
Rangers' Drew Smyly: Lasts three innings
Smyly gave up one run on four hits with two walks through three innings in a no-decision against the Astros on Monday. He struck out two.
Smyly only lasted 73 pitches in his first appearance in the big leagues since 2016. A leadoff home run by George Springer contributed to his only earned run, but the southpaw was inefficient in his three innings. The good news is Smyly appears healthy, and his fastball velocity averaged 91. Smyly will try to be more effective in his next start Saturday at Angel Stadium of Anaheim.

Andrew Heaney RP | LAD
Angels' Andrew Heaney: To receive cortisone injection
Heaney (elbow) will undergo a cortisone injection in his left elbow and is expected to begin throwing in 7-to-10 days.
Heaney was shut down from throwing Thursday after suffering a setback, and it's since been determined that an injection is necessary. While a timetable for his return remains a bit murky, it's good news that he'll be cleared to resume his throwing program within the next week or so.

Mike Clevinger RP | PIT
Indians' Mike Clevinger: Strikes out 12 in 2019 debut
Clevinger allowed only one hit while striking out 12 and walking three in seven scoreless innings during a no-decision against the White Sox on Monday.
The Indians were clinging to a 1-0 lead when Clevinger departed, but the bullpen quickly yielded the lead in the eighth. Therefore, Clevinger will have to wait to earn his first win, but still, owners have to be pleased with this first start. With his strikeout ability, it's quite possible Clevinger becomes an AL Cy Young candidate this summer.

Domingo German SP | PIT
Yankees' Domingo German: Will serve as traditional starter
German is slated to start Monday's game against the Tigers, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.
Manager Aaron Boone had already indicated that German would pitch the bulk of the innings Monday, but it's now been confirmed that the right-hander will be used as a traditional starter rather than following an opener. German showed some impressive upside in 2018 with 102 strikeouts over 85.2 innings at the MLB level, but his issues with keeping the ball in yard saddled him with a 5.57 ERA and 1.33 WHIP.

Chris Bassitt SP | BAL
Athletics' Chris Bassitt: Successful side session
Bassitt (lower leg) threw 40 pitches in a side session before Sunday's game, Michael Wagaman of The Associated Press reports.
It's the latest positive step for Bassitt as he looks to bounce back from the liner he took to his shin versus the Mariners during the season-opening series in Japan. The 30-year-old returned to mound work Friday, and manager Bob Melvin stated that Bassitt may soon face hitters as the next step in his recovery.

Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA
Rays' Yonny Chirinos: Wins first game
Chirinos (1-0) gave up one run on two hits with no walks over seven innings in a win over the Astros on Sunday. He struck out six.
In the longest start of his career, Chirinos delivered a two-hitter through seven innings to earn his first win of the season. Even though the right-hander was magnificent last year and put up a 3.51 ERA, he does not usually go deep into games. Chirinos usually is the innings eater of the opener strategy deployed by the Rays, and he will likely pitch in the Giants series Saturday or Sunday at Oracle Park.

Wade Miley SP | CIN
Astros' Wade Miley: Gets little support
Miley (0-1) allowed three runs on eight hits while striking out four over six innings in Sunday's 3-1 loss to the Rays.
Houston's offense was shut down for a third straight game and managed just three hits against Tampa Bay pitching Sunday. Aside from a lack of support, Miley was done in by an unlikely source, a left-handed batter. He's allowed a .664 OPS against lefties during his career, but Austin Meadows (home run, single, three RBI) bucked that trend Sunday. Miley is next scheduled to pitch Saturday at home against Oakland.

Lance Lynn SP | STL
Rangers' Lance Lynn: Disappoints in team debut
Lynn allowed seven runs on 10 hits and struck out five over 5.2 innings Sunday against the Cubs. He didn't factor into the decision.
Lynn never managed to settle in during his first outing of 2019, surrendering at least one run in the second, third, fourth and sixth innings. Despite this, the Rangers would come away with a win in the bottom of the ninth because of a wild pitch by Pedro Strop. Lynn's Texas debut didn't go as planned, so he'll hope for a more favorable outcome in his next start Friday against the Angels.
-
Dylan Bundy SP | NYM
Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Walks five
Bundy gave up three runs on two hits with five walks over 3.2 innings in a no-decision against the Yankees on Sunday. He struck out seven.
Spotted a three-run lead in the first inning, Bundy labored through 3.2 innings and allowed five walks before being removed with the bases loaded. The Orioles bullpen allowed all three of the runs to score, ballooning his ERA to 7.36. Bundy will hope for a better performance against the Yankees on Saturday at Camden Yards.

Frankie Montas RP | NYM
Athletics' Frankie Montas: Fires six strong in victory
Montas (1-0) earned the win over the Angels on Sunday. He allowed one run and three hits while striking out six in six innings.
This was a terrific start to the year for Montas, who didn't lock up a rotation spot until the end of spring training. The 26-year-old's biggest mistake was allowing a solo home run to Kole Calhoun in the sixth inning. Montas should get the ball during next weekend's series against a tough Astros lineup.
