  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Allows eight earned runs

Perez (1-1) took the loss after allowing eight earned runs on nine hits while walking four and striking out two across three innings Tuesday against the Angels.

After scrapping through his first start of the season, things went off the rails quickly for Perez in his follow-up effort. He couldn't find the strike zone -- 44 of his 90 pitches were strikes -- and he wasn't fooling any hitters, as he induced only four swinging strikes. Perez is returning from offseason surgery to his non-throwing elbow so it's fair to assume he isn't pitching at his best, but he has shown no reason to speculate on him through two starts.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Pitches well in no-decision Tuesday

Boyd pitched seven innings of one-run ball in a no-decision Tuesday against the Indians. He gave up just three hits and a walk while striking out four.

Through two starts this year, Boyd has given up just two earned runs in 13 innings of work, but he's sitting at 0-1 due to a lack of run support. However, if the 27-year-old lefty keeps pitching like this, he should get into the win column soon. It's too early to fully trust Boyd after he posted a 5.27 ERA and 1.56 WHIP last season, but he's making positive strides. Up next is a tough test against the Yankees' powerful lineup on Sunday.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Strikes out 10 in winning effort

Snell (1-1) allowed one run on one hit and five walks over six innings in Tuesday's victory over the White Sox.

Although Snell's control was questionable, the southpaw had an otherwise great outing as he fanned 10 batters. Over his previous two games, Snell had struck out just seven batters over a combined nine innings. After making three starts, Snell owns a respectable 3.60 ERA and 1.20 WHIP. His next start projects to be Sunday when the Rays host the Phillies.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Orioles' Nestor Cortes: Designated for assignment Tuesday

Cortes was designated for assignment by the Orioles on Tuesday, Brittany Ghiroli of MLB.com reports.

Cortes was a Rule 5 draft pick from the Yankees, so it's possible that he could return to New York if the Yankees wish to reacquire him. Since the start of the season, Cortes has appeared in four games (4.2 innings) and given up four runs on 10 hits and four walks. He's struggled to keep the ball in the park, as two of said hits were home runs. In a corresponding move, Yefry Ramirez was recalled from Triple-A Norfolk.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Strikes out 10 in tough-luck loss

Bundy (0-1) allowed two runs on four hits and two walks while striking out 10 over seven innings in a loss to the Blue Jays on Monday.

Steve Pearce made Bundy pay for one of his few mistakes, smacking a two-run homer in the third inning, and that was enough to send Bundy to the loss. Bundy has been excellent through three starts, posting a 1.35 ERA, 0.95 WHIP and 25:5 K:BB in 20 innings. His 38.4 percent chase rate (O-Swing%) ranks seventh among starters right now. The team context works against him, but Bundy seems to have turned a corner and is looking like a legitimate frontline starter. He will face a tough test in the Red Sox at Fenway Park this weekend.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Indians' Corey Kluber: Fans 13 against Detroit

Kluber (1-1) allowed just two hits and one walk while striking out 13 over eight scoreless innings in a win over the Tigers on Monday.

It was an absolutely dominant showing from one of the game's best. Through three starts this season, Kluber has a 27:4 K:BB (tied with Max Scherzer for the most strikeouts in baseball) and is holding opponents to a .143 batting average. Kluber was a first-round pick in most leagues during draft season, but a case can be made that he should have gone even higher than he did. He lines up for a home start against the Blue Jays this weekend.

  • Astros' Justin Verlander: Tosses seven scoreless innings in win

Verlander (2-0) tossed seven scoreless innings as he earned the win Monday against the Twins, allowing four hits and one walk with nine strikeouts.

Verlander was outstanding in this one, throwing first-pitch strikes to 16 batters while inducing 13 swinging strikes. He gave up a pair of doubles, but the veteran otherwise kept a competent lineup at bay as he dropped his ERA down to 1.45. Verlander has picked up right where he left off last season, compiling an 11.1 K/9 and a 0.96 WHIP ahead of Sunday's scheduled start against the Rangers.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Twins' Lance Lynn: Strikes out nine in no-decision

Lynn struck out nine over five scoreless innings in a no-decision Monday against the Astros. He allowed three hits and issued four walks.

Sunday's rain delay pushed Lynn back a day into a difficult matchup, but he held the Houston offense at bay thanks to an excellent showing in the strikeout department. The punchouts ran up his pitch count, however, limiting him to five innings in his second start as a Twin. Lynn still owns an inflated ERA of 5.00 despite this dramatically improved performance -- a figure he will look to improve upon in Saturday's scheduled appearance against the White Sox.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Allows four runs before early hook

Gonzales (1-1) allowed four runs on eight hits and one walk while earning the loss Monday against the Royals. He struck out four.

Gonzales allowed an early parade of baserunners, yielding three runs in the first inning while running up his pitch count. He moved through the second inning quickly before allowing the first two men to reach in the third -- one of whom came around to score after his removal with one out. Gonzales contributed a quality start in his previous outing against the Giants, but this performance gives him an inflated 7.27 ERA and 1.73 WHIP through nine innings this season. He'll look to bounce back this weekend against the Athletics.

  • Michael Kopech SP | LAD

White Sox's Michael Kopech: Fans eight in season debut

Kopech allowed two hits and two walks while striking out eight over four scoreless innings for Triple-A Charlotte on Monday.

Kopech, the organization's top pitching prospect, made his seasonal debut for the Knights and his fourth overall start at the Triple-A level. The flame-throwing right-hander is generating much excitement in Chicago and figures to reach the Windy City before the end of the season, though nothing is guaranteed. The White Sox will be careful not to rush Kopech, who has some refining to do, particularly in the area of developing a consistent changeup as his third pitch.
