Rangers' Yu Darvish: Expects to make next start

Darvish (triceps) says he expects to make his next scheduled start Wednesday against the Indians, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Darvish was removed before the eighth inning of Friday's game due to triceps tightness, though the move was ultimately said to be precautionary. He was able to play catch Saturday with no issues, indicating that he should be ready to take his next turn in the rotation when it comes around Wednesday.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Confirmed for Monday's start

Hamels (oblique) was confirmed as the starter for Monday's game against the Indians, Jeff Wilson of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reports.

Hamels, who has been on the DL since that start of May, was able to get through his Friday bullpen session with no issues, clearing the way for him to return to the big-league rotation. The southpaw compiled a 3.03 ERA and 15:12 K:BB in five starts (32.2 innings) before landing on the disabled list.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Nears return to rotation

Manager Rick Renteria indicated Saturday that Rodon's (biceps) next start could be with the White Sox, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reports.

Rodon has yet to pitch in the majors this season due to injury, but he's finally built his pitch count to a level where the team could be comfortable releasing him at the major-league level. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old southpaw hasn't provided encouraging rehab starts, getting lit up in his one start at High-A and then allowing 15 runs (14 earned) over three Triple-A starts. The rehab starts also serve as a spring training of sorts for Rodon, so there's not too much to worry about with the results of those outings. It's still a bit unclear when he'll make his season debut, but his return could knock David Holmberg out of the starting rotation.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Heads to DL

Perez was placed on the 10-day disabled list Saturday with a fractured right thumb.

Perez suffered a small fracture at the tip of his thumb after getting his finger caught in a door Thursday night, and while he originally stated that he would be good to go for his next start, it now appears the injury is serious enough to warrant a DL stint. It's unclear if he'll be forced to miss more than that at this point, but the Rangers should be able to move up their scheduled starters to fill in for Perez for the time being, with Yu Darvish (triceps) likely taking his turn Wednesday. Drew Robinson was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Posts ugly line Friday

Rodon (biceps) allowed eight runs (seven earned) on five hits and two walks while striking out seven over 4.1 innings in a rehabilitation start at Triple-A Charlotte.

Rodon was victimized by some poor defense during a seven-run fourth inning, but showed encouraging signs over the first three innings. He struck out six of eight batters during one stretch before things turned ugly in the fourth. While it was a fourth straight unimpressive rehab start for Rodon, he reached 91 pitches Friday and is at a point where he could make his next start for the White Sox. If Rodon is activated off the disabled list, his schedule lines up to pitch Wednesday at home against the Yankees.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Next start not assured

Musgrove has minor-league options available and could be allowed to work through his recent struggles at Triple-A Fresno, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Musgrove, who was tagged for nine runs over 3.1 innings Friday, has allowed 82 hits and 14 home runs over 67.1 innings and completed six innings in only four of his 13 starts. Musgrove's next scheduled start comes Thursday, but Lance McCullers' (back) return from the DL on Saturday affords manager A.J. Hinch the option of keeping both Francis Martes and David Paulino in the rotation until Musgrove rights himself.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Second rehab start scheduled

Morton (latissimus) will make a second rehabilitation start Tuesday with Triple-A Fresno, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Morton will pitch three or four innings Tuesday after throwing 36 pitches over two innings during his first rehab start Thursday. The right-hander will need at least one more start beyond next Tuesday's before he's activated off the disabled list.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Astros' Joe Musgrove: Gives up three homers in loss to Mariners

Musgrove (4-7) allowed nine runs on 12 hits and a walk, struck out four and lasted just 3.2 innings Friday night in a loss to Seattle.

Musgrove is struggling of late, as he is now 1-4 over his past five starts and has allowed at least five runs in three of them. He served up three home runs in Friday's start and has now given up a whopping 14 in just 13 outings -- the main driver behind his brutal 6.01 ERA.

  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Angels' Alex Meyer: Chased early Friday

Meyer (3-4) gave up five runs on five hits and two walks over 3.1 innings while striking out three in Friday's 9-4 loss to the Red Sox.

Boston tagged him for three runs in the bottom of the first inning before Hanley Ramirez sent Meyer to the showers with a two-run blast in the fourth. It was the right-hander's shortest outing of the season and pumped his ERA back up to 4.20 after he'd got it below 4.00 for the first time all year in his last start. He'll look to bounce back Wednesday at home against the Dodgers.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Pulled with triceps tightness before eighth inning

Darvish was pulled as a precautionary measure before the eighth inning of Friday's start against the Yankees with triceps tightness, Emily Jones of Fox Sports Southwest reports.

Darvish had needed just 88 pitches to throw seven shutout innings, so it was assumed that something was up when he didn't come out for the eighth. Given Darvish's injury history, it's understandable that the Rangers didn't want to push him at even the slightest hint of tightness. As this move was called precautionary, he shouldn't be expected to miss a start, but his progress should be monitored throughout the week.
