  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Set to begin season on DL

Miley will start the regular season on the disabled list, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

The left-hander is a bit behind the other pitchers after being hit in the shoulder by a comebacker earlier in the spring and then being sidelined by an illness. This will allow the Orioles to stash him on the DL until they need him to start on Sunday April 9 and carry some combination of 13 total relievers and bench players until then. Miley is expected to be completely healthy when that day comes around, but for the time being, he'll bide his time on the disabled list.

  • Yankees' Jordan Montgomery: Finalist in ongoing No. 5 battle

Montgomery is lined up to start for Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre on April 6 and April 11 as the Yankees continue deciding on their No. 5 starting pitcher, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports.

The southpaw became somewhat of a revelation in spring training action with a sparkling 17:3 K:BB to go along with a 3.20 ERA and 0.97 WHIP in 19.2 exhibition frames. The 6-foot-6, 225-pounder will continue to compete with teammates Luis Cessa and Chad Green, who'll be on the same schedule at Double-A Trenton.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

    Yankees' Luis Severino: Makes rotation

Severino has made the Yankees' rotation as the fourth starter, Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports reports.

The 23-year-old looks to rebound after absorbing a 5.83 ERA in 71 innings last year (22 appearances, 11 starts) that involved a demotion to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre and a bullpen stint, where he might've figured things out (0.39 ERA, 9.6 K/9, 3.9 BB/9 in 23.1 frames). Severino's 3.95 ERA this spring was just shaky enough to have the decision come down to the wire, but the right-hander showed solid command (16 strikeouts, five walks), which worked in his favor. His dazzling 2015 debut (2.89 ERA, 8.1 K/9, 3.2 BB/9 in 11 starts) keeps open the possibility of a true breakout over a full season.

  • Twins' Adalberto Mejia: Wins job as fifth starter

Mejia will serve as the Twins fifth starter to open the season, Mike Berardino of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.

Mejia posted a 1.88 ERA and struck out 14 over 14.1 innings this spring, and that proved to be enough for the 23-year-old to beat out Tyler Duffey for a rotation spot. The left-hander made his majors debut in 2016, but it spanned just one appearance, so he's a largely unproven commodity. Mejia sports a fastball that can touch the mid-90s, though his size (6-3, 195) suggests there's potentially room to grow in that area.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Throws minor-league game Wednesday

Morton threw about 95 pitches in a minor-league game Wednesday, his final outing before he starts next Wednesday against the Mariners, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

Morton allowed just two earned runs and struck out 17 batters over 17.1 spring innings. The 33-year-old right-hander is not known for his power arm, but Morton experienced increased velocity this spring, continuing a trend he showed last year in Philadelphia before suffering a season-ending injury in April.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Strikes out six in minor-league outing

Nolasco gave up two runs over three innings in a Triple-A game Tuesday. He struck out six batters without issuing a walk.

The 34-year-old remains a lock for the Angels' Opening Day rotation, but it is unclear which spot he will have in the order. Nolasco is a low-end fantasy starter who has only posted an ERA below 4.00 twice in his 11-year career. What the veteran does bring to the table is an ability to eat innings and stay in the zone with his pitches (3.0 K/BB or higher in three of his last four seasons). He's really only a deep-league option at this point, but he could have value in standard leagues as a streaming option in the right matchups.

  • Paul Clemens SP | MIN

Twins' Paul Clemens: Inks deal with Minnesota

Clemens will sign a contract with the Twins, Chris Cotillo of MLB Daily Dish reports.

The details of Clemens' contract aren't known, but it's expected that he's getting a minor-league deal from the Twins after he was cut by the Padres a week after getting throttled in spring training. The Twins don't have much in the way of bullpen depth, so if Clemens performs well with Triple-A Rochester, he could get a look with the big club before long.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Mariners' Drew Smyly: Scratched from start with arm soreness

Smyly has been scratched from his scheduled start Friday with arm soreness, Bob Dutton of The Tacoma News Tribune reports.

Manager Scott Servais says he's not sure what the extent of the soreness is, but it seemed enough to warrant extra rest for the southpaw. All signs indicate the scratch is precautionary and that Smyly will be ready for his season debut next Thursday against the Astros, but he'll likely be re-evaluated over the next week.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Throws minor-league game Tuesday

Quintana tossed three-plus innings Tuesday against a Milwaukee minor-league team, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports. He allowed two runs on two hits and a walk while striking out three over 48 pitches. "I'm heading into the season with good energy and satisfied with all the work and effort that I put in my preparation," said Quintana. "I'm absolutely ready for the season to start."

Some team aces were getting in final tune-ups Tuesday, and that was the case for Quintana, who will start Opening Day next Monday against the Tigers. The left-hander has managed to compartmentalize the incessant trade rumors swirling around him and pitched well during spring training and the World Baseball Classic.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Makes final Grapefruit League appearance

Keuchel allowed three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four over 4.2 innings in Tuesday's game against the Marlins, Brian McTaggart of the Astros' official site reports.

Compared to Keuchel's other spring outings, Tuesday's was a bit of a slog for the left-hander. He needed 90 pitches and had a few stressful innings. Working with runners on and putting the body through a little stress can be a good thing sometimes, however. Despite Tuesday's results, Keuchel has had a good spring, and he'll be taking the ball Opening Day in Houston against Seattle on April 3.
