  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Orioles' Wade Miley: Out with illness

Miley has been scratched from his start on Monday due to an illness, Roch Kubatko of MASN reports.

This doesn't seem like anything overly serious, but manager Buck Showalter will clarify Miley's status before Monday's game against the Red Sox. Consider him day-to-day in the meantime.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

White Sox's Carlos Rodon: Sharp in spring debut

Rodon allowed one hit and one walk while striking out five over four scoreless innings in Sunday's game against the Angels, Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune reports.

Rodon, who was making his first spring start, threw 65 pitches (38 for strikes) and then tossed another 10 in the bullpen after leaving the game. He'll get two more Cactus League starts before the regular season, which should get him up to the six-inning, 85-pitch range. The team's goal for the left-hander this season is to throw 200 innings, but in order to do that, he'll need to become more efficient. He averaged 5.9 innings and 100 pitches per start in 2016.

  • Matthew Boyd SP | CHC

Tigers' Matt Boyd: Strong again Sunday

Boyd pitched five innings and got the win in Sunday's spring training game against the Orioles, allowing six hits and just one earned run. He struck out four.

In his last two outings, Boyd has allowed only a single run on nine hits in 10 innings, while striking out nine. The strong performances should help the 26-year-old lock up the No. 5 spot in the rotation to begin the season.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Injury not deemed serious

McCullers (foot) said that he was forced to leave Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees because a hole ripped open in his cleat, causing his foot to hit against the dirt on each pitch, Jake Kaplan of the Houston Chronicle reports.

McCullers also added that he's "fine," so it doesn't appear that he's overly concerned about the injury. He may require some time to let the foot heal, but his long-term health shouldn't be affected. He'll remain listed as day-to-day.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Will make minor league start Monday

To update an earlier report, Carrasco (elbow) completed a bullpen session Saturday and will make a minor league spring training start Monday, with his major league start scheduled for Friday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

It was previously reported that Carrasco's bullpen session was scheduled for Sunday. The news remains encouraging and Carrasco appears to be on pace to be ready for the start of the big league season.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Set to return Friday

Carrasco (elbow) will throw a bullpen session Sunday and is scheduled to make his next start on Friday, March 24, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports.

Carrasco was diagnosed with elbow swelling on Tuesday and was expected to miss his next start. He began playing catch on Thursday and is feeling well enough to throw a bullpen session Sunday. Barring any setbacks, it appears that the 29-year-old will be ready for the regular season.

  • Astros' Lance McCullers: Exits game early

McCullers exited Sunday's Grapefruit League game against the Yankees after 3.2 innings with an apparent foot injury, Brian McTaggert of MLB.com reports.

Astros manager A.J. Hinch said in an interview that McCullers was bleeding through his shoe. The severity of his foot injury is currently unclear, but more information should hopefully be available following Sunday's game.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Pitches in minor league game Saturday

Quintana threw 81 pitches over six innings in a minor league game Saturday, Dan Hayes of CSN Chicago reports.

Quintana has resumed his throwing program following a brief stint with Team Colombia in the World Baseball Classic. He'll get two more spring starts and is on schedule to start the White Sox's home opener April 3 against the Tigers.

  • Charlie Morton SP | ATL

Astros' Charlie Morton: Maintains increased velo Saturday

Morton's fastball topped out at 97 mph during Saturday's game against the Nationals, Philip Fishman of the Houston Chronicle reports. The right-hander got up to 63 pitches (42 strikes) in his fourth spring start, allowing two unearned runs on three hits and one walk while striking out seven over four innings.

Morton is unfazed by the velocity increase of his fastball, which in previous years sat in the 92 mph range. "It's nice to throw hard, but at the end of the day, it's all about getting outs," he said. And getting outs is what's he's been doing this spring. He's allowed seven hits and four walks over 13 innings and sports a 1.38 ERA with 13 strikeouts. Morton has solidified his hold on the No. 4 spot in the rotation. And if he continues to maintain increased velocity with movement, we could see an uptick in whiffs for a pitcher who's averaged 6.3 K/9 for his career.

  • Martin Perez SP | ATL

Rangers' Martin Perez: Draws start against Puerto Rico

Perez will get the nod for Saturday's WBC game against Puerto Rico.

The left-hander struggled in his first outing of the World Baseball Classic, allowing four earned runs on six hits across 3.1 innings. He'll face a tough Puerto Rico lineup Saturday that's headlined by Carlos Correa.
