  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

White Sox's Jose Quintana: Earns second straight victory against Mariners on Saturday

Quintana (11-9) allowed two runs (one earned) on five hits, struck out eight and walked one over 7.2 innings in a victory over the Mariners on Saturday.

The left-hander has yielded just three earned runs in his last 14.2 innings. During that stretch, he's struck out 14 batters. He is 11-9 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.10 WHIP and 150 strikeouts over 172.1 innings this season. HIs next start will be Thursday versus Minnesota.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Astros' Dallas Keuchel: Stymies Rays over seven innings Saturday

Keuchel (9-12) gave up two earned runs on nine hits and a walk over seven innings in Saturday's 6-2 victory over the Rays. He struck out four.

The lefty managed to stay out of trouble against a Rays squad that's often struggled making consistent contact against southpaws this season. Keuchel notched 11 swinging strikes overall and had only one glaring mistake, a 411-foot two-run homer by Bobby Wilson in the fifth. The 28-year-old now has consecutive quality starts, as well as victories in three of his last four trips to the mound. He'll look to keep the momentum going when he takes on the Rangers next Friday.

  • Vidal Nuno SP | WAS

Mariners' Vidal Nuno: Gets hit hard for six earned runs

Nuno was drilled for 10 hits and six runs in three innings of relief Saturday at the White Sox. He struck out three.

The Mariners were down, 3-1, when Nuno entered, but he allowed the game to get ugly quickly with a four-spot in the fifth inning. He gave up three home runs, a triple and a double. Nuno had allowed two runs (and one homer) in his previous 18 outings covering 15 innings. It wasn't his night Saturday.

  • Dylan Bundy SP | NYM

Orioles' Dylan Bundy: Takes loss in brief outing against Yankees

Bundy (7-5) allowed five runs on seven hits and three walks in 4.0 innings Saturday against the Yankees. He struck out six.

The 23-year-old has pitched very well in August (3.10 ERA) outside of an understandably tough matchup against Boston and this rough start against the Yankees. Bundy continues to post a solid strikeout rate (8.22 K/9) even after transitioning to the starting rotation, and seems to be generally rounding into the form many considered he had as a starting pitcher phenom. Hopefully the young righty learned from this outing, since he faces the Yankees again in his next scheduled start Friday, this time at home in Baltimore.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Exits with bruised lower left leg

Snell left Saturday's game in the fourth inning with a bruised lower left leg.

Snell probably wasn't long for Saturday's game anyway, as he'd given up four earned runs on nine hits in three-plus innings (64 pitches). He was hit in the leg by a sharp groundball off the bat of Houston's Marwin Gonzalez. The diagnosis of a bruise would seem to bode well for Snell's chances of avoiding a lengthy absence but his status for his next start is uncertain.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Rays' Blake Snell: Leaves game with apparent foot injury

Snell left Saturday's game against the Astros with an apparent left foot injury, Marc Topkins of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The lefty tried to convince the training staff that he could stay in the game after taking a hard comebacker off his foot but he was ultimately replaced by Danny Farquhar. Snell didn't issue a walk in his three-plus innings on the mound but his performance can hardly be classified as a step forward, as he was knocked around for four runs on nine hits.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Blue Jays' Marcus Stroman: Touched up for five runs in Saturday no-decision

Stroman didn't factor into the decision Saturday versus the Twins, giving up five earned runs on nine hits, a walk and a wild pitch over six innings. He struck out five.

The right-hander was able to avoid the long ball but gave up several timely hits, particularly in the four-run fourth inning. He got into trouble early uncorking a wild pitch that plated Brian Dozier in the first, and then surrendered a run-scoring single to Miguel Sano and a pair of RBI doubles to Eduardo Escobar and Brian Dozier in the fourth. The five earned runs were the most Stroman had surrendered in a start since July 15 against the A's, but he encouragingly avoided the long ball for the second straight start. The 25-year-old will try to get back in the win column when he takes on the Rays next Saturday.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Mows down eight in Friday no-decision

Smyly didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 5-4 loss to the Astros but recorded eight strikeouts and gave up three runs (two earned) on three hits and two walks over six innings.

The lefty continued his recent stretch of strong pitching, going at least six innings for the seventh straight outing while giving up two earned runs or less for the sixth time over that span. Smyly's eight strikeouts also served as his second-highest total in that category since July 1 and the effort brought nudged his ERA down for the seventh consecutive start. Although his chance at a fourth consecutive victory was lost when closer Alex Colome imploded in the ninth by giving up back-to-back homers, Smyly's season has undeniably taken a 360-degree turn for the better in the second half of the campaign.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

Rays' Alex Cobb: Scheduled for final rehab start Saturday

Cobb (elbow) will make a final rehab start for Triple-A Durham on Saturday before joining the Rays next week, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

His long road back from May 2015 Tommy John surgery almost complete, Cobb will take the mound one more time for the Bulls in a final effort to work out kinks and stretch out his arm. The 28-year-old has had an up-and-down rehab process, with an extended break from game action at one point to remedy some mechanics and fatigue-related issues. Cobb will try to rebound from his last start on Aug. 22 against Norfolk, an outing where he gave up five earned runs on nine hits and two walks over four frames. He's not scheduled for a soft landing when he arrives in Tampa either, as the right-hander is slated to face the Blue Jays on Sept. 2 or 3.

  • Ricky Nolasco SP | ARI

Angels' Ricky Nolasco: Doomed by lack of run support in 12th loss

Nolasco (4-12) gave up four earned runs on nine hits and three walks over 6.1 innings in Friday's 4-2 loss to the Tigers. He struck out two.

The veteran righty actually turned in a solid effort overall, but he didn't get much help from his offense on a night where opposing starter Justin Verlander was in vintage form. Nolasco breezed through the first five innings before giving up an RBI double to J.D. Martinez and a two-run shot to Justin Upton in the sixth. Cameron Maybin then touched him up for a 347-foot solo blast in the seventh, ending Nolasco's night. The 33-year-old has now dropped four straight decisions and has yet to notch a victory in an Angels uniform, despite pitching at least six innings in four of his five starts. He'll try to get into the win column when he takes on the Reds next Wednesday.
