  • Andrew Heaney RP | LAD

Angels' Andrew Heaney: Diagnosis remains same, still not throwing much

Heaney underwent another MRI on Monday, and his diagnosis remains a strained left flexor tendon, Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register reports.

Heaney's UCL has so far avoided injury, but the southpaw still isn't throwing much, as he's previously reported tightness in his forearm. With little progress made to date, it's unknown when he'll receive clearance to embark upon a rehab assignment.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Rangers' Cole Hamels: Has successful bullpen session Monday

Hamels (groin) threw a bullpen session Monday that went well and will throw another one Wednesday in hopes of starting Saturday against the Angels, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Based on the initial reports, Hamels appears to have a decent chance of making one start during the current week. However, he'll need to make it through Wednesday's session without incident for that schedule to hold up.

  • Red Sox's Eduardo Rodriguez: Location of next rehab start in flux

Rodriguez (knee) may make his next rehab start Thursday at Triple-A Pawtucket, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Weather considerations are the variable in play, as the Red Sox are still planning on having Rodriguez make two more rehab starts before he's cleared to rejoin the Boston rotation.

  • Yankees' James Kaprielian: Hits minor league DL with elbow inflammation

Kaprielian has been placed on the 7-day DL with elbow inflammation, Jared Diamond of The Wall Street Journal reports.

An MRI taken Monday revealed the inflammation, but no timetable was given for Kaprielian's return to the mound. He's pitched well through three starts at High-A Tampa thus far, posting a 22:3 K:BB in 18 innings along with a 1.50 ERA and 0.61 WHIP. After rest, Kaprielian will begin a throwing program, but the Yankees released a statement indicating that their young pitcher will be treated conservatively.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Orioles' Kevin Gausman: Starting on the mound Monday

Gausman has been activated off the disabled list and is the starting pitcher against Tampa on Monday, Roch Kubatko of MASN Sports reports.

Gausman successfully made his way through his rehab program after injuring his shoulder late in spring training. Facing a Rays team that's hitting .227 in the early going is a promising way to start his season.

  • Indians' Carlos Carrasco: Out 4-6 weeks with hamstring strain

Carrasco (hamstring) will miss 4-to-6 weeks with a hamstring strain, Zack Meisel of the Cleveland Plain-Dealer reports. He has been placed on the 15-day DL.

Once the Indians need a fifth starter again, it's expected that Trevor Bauer will rejoin the Cleveland rotation. Michael Brantley returned from the disabled list Monday, and he'll take over Carrasco's spot on the 25-man roster.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Rangers' Yu Darvish: Will throw batting practice session Tuesday

Darvish (elbow) will throw his next batting practice session on Tuesday, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Darvish had his rehab appearance scheduled for Tuesday cancelled, but he'll continue his rehab process in a more controlled setting. He could still appear in a rehab start within the next week depending on how he feels after the bullpen session. Despite the wait on a rehab appearance, the right-hander is still expected to be back with Texas in mid-to-late May.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

    Astros' Joe Musgrove: Dominating Double-A

    Musgrove, 23, has a 0.73 ERA and 14:2 K:BB through 12.1 innings for Double-A Corpus Christi.

Musgrove was initially expected to begin the year at Triple-A, but was instead sent back to Double-A. He has picked up right where he left off last season, and should see a promotion rather quickly.

  • Alex Meyer SP | LAA

Twins' Alex Meyer: Will receive call up to majors Monday

Meyer is going to be called up to the major leagues Monday, Mike Berardino of the Pioneer Press reports.

After struggling a bit last season with Triple-A Rochester, Meyer dominated Triple-A hitters through 17.1 innings thus far, allowing only two earned runs while posting an excellent 19:4 K:BB. It's unclear whether he'll slot in as a starter or a reliever while he's with the Twins, but the right-hander could be a promising fantasy asset if he can carry over some semblance of his gaudy ratios from the minor leagues.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Rays' Drew Smyly: Turns in strong seven innings versus Yankees on Sunday

Smyly (1-2) surrendered six hits, an earned run and a walk over seven innings in Sunday's 8-1 victory over the Yankees. He struck out six.

The lefty was finally rewarded with a victory after his third consecutive quality start, thanks to some rare offensive support. Despite the fact that he'd pitched 15 innings of four-hit ball while only allowing two earned runs over his prior two starts combined, Smyly had walked away with a loss and no-decision in those games. The 26-year-old managed to keep the Yankees frustrated all afternoon, throwing 64 of 93 pitches for strikes and notching first-pitch strikes on 17 of the 28 batters he faced. Smyly has clearly been the most effective of the Rays' top four starters so far this season, his rather lackluster record notwithstanding.
