Sale has allowed 11 runs combined over his last 14 innings pitched. He is scheduled to make his next start Wednesday at home against Houston. He tossed eight scoreless innings in his previous meeting against the Astros on June 14.

  • Jason Hammel SP | TEX

Jason Hammel throws clean bullpen session

Orioles starter Jason Hammel threw an issue-free bullpen session as he attempts to recover from a forearm injury, MASN reports.

Hammel threw 45 pitches and used his entire arsenal. He is scheduled to throw again Sunday before the club sends him out on a rehab assignment. Hammel, with a 5.20 ERA in 21 starts, should rejoin the rotation in early September if all goes well.

  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Sonny Gray moved up to Sunday

Athletics rookie pitcher Sonny Gray has been moved up to start Sunday against Baltimore, the Baltimore Sun reports. Gray has been impressive to begin his career, as he owns a 1.44 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 25 innings (three starts, two relief appearances).

  • Neil Ramirez RP | CLE

Neil Ramirez finally shipped to Cubs

The Cubs acquired pitching prospect Neil Ramirez off waivers Friday, completing the Matt Garza trade with the Rangers as the player to be named later.

Ramirez was initially included in the deal before a biceps strain forced the Cubs to hold off on acquiring the 24-year-old.

Ramirez put up a 3.84 ERA in 103 innings for Double-A Frisco. The Cubs assigned him to Double-A Tennessee to finish out the season.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Jose Quintana lasts seven innings in no decision

White Sox pitcher Jose Quintana allowed just three earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out seven in seven innings but did not factor into the decision in his team's 4-3 win over the Royals Thursday.

Three of the hits and the walk Quintana surrendered all came during a three-run fifth inning, with two of the runs scoring on sacrifice flies. He owns a 7-4 record, 3.67 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 130:45 K:BB ratio going into Tuesday's start against the Astros.

  • Justin Verlander takes no-decision against Twins

Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander took a no-decision in Thursday's matinee against Minnesota.

Verlander allowed six runs on 10 hits over seven innings with six strikeouts against three walks. Despite facing a lineup with just two hitters slugging over .400 and none hitting over .280, Verlander served up three extra-base hits and seven singles. It was just another bump in Verlander's up-and-down season; however, he still owns a 3.68 ERA over 173 2/3 innings.

  • Jason Hammel SP | TEX

Jason Hammel looking for Sept. return

Orioles starter Jason Hammel (forearm) threw more long toss Wednesday, The Baltimore Sun reports. He did 25 throws each from 90 and 120 feet and 10 more at 50 feet.

Everything appeared to go well for Hammel, who is expected to throw from a mound Friday. He'll likely get 30 pitches. The Orioles hope Hammel could return to the rotation by the beginning of September. He's likely going to need at least two rehab starts.

  • Justin Masterson effectively wild in win

Indians starting pitcher Justin Masterson snapped his three game winless streak Wednesday, with six-plus strong innings against the Angels.

Masterson had to pitch around a rare bout of wildness, as he matched his season-high with five walks in 6 1/3 innings of work. He scattered those five walks along with five hits, limiting the Angels to one run while striking out seven batters.

Masterson got the win as the Indians prevailed, 3-1, improving his record to 13-9 and lowering his ERA to 3.50. Masterson will next take the mound for the Indians on Wednesday at Atlanta, unless the Indians decide to tweak the rotation due to two upcoming days off.
