  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Yu Darvish happy to get no-decision

Rangers starter Yu Darvish was losing for most of his outing Saturday in Toronto. With Mark Buehrle pitching well, the three runs Darvish allowed had him on the hook for a defeat.

Darvish was saved by Texas tying it up in the top of the ninth inning off closer Casey Janssen. He took the no-decision as he allowed three runs -- two earned -- on five hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out seven and threw 111 pitches. His ERA is 2.75.

Darvish (7-1) certainly hasn't been at his best of late, as he hasn't earned a win since May 16 against Detroit. That said, he took a no-decision in his last start before Saturday despite going seven shutout innings. He's still pitching well and he still leads the American League in strikeouts with 118 over 88 1/3 innings.

Darvish makes his next scheduled start Thursday at home against Toronto.

  • Justin Masterson pushed back to Sunday

The Indians have pushed back starter Justin Masterson to Sunday against the Tigers with Carlos Carrasco called up to start Saturday, MLB.com reports.

Masterson took a loss his last time out against the Yankees Monday. He's 8-4 on the season with a 3.57 ERA.

  • Carlos Carrasco starting Saturday for Indians

The Indians recalled starter Carlos Carrasco to make Saturday's start against the Tigers, MLB.com reports. Justin Masterson will have his start pushed back to Sunday and Zach McAllister heads to the disabled list.

Carrasco made one start earlier this year for the Indians and gave up seven earned runs on seven hits and two walks over 3 2/3 innings on April 9 against the Yankees. He took the loss in that outing.

Carrasco gone 2-0 with a 3.21 ERA over his last 10 appearances with Triple-A Columbus with 50 strikeouts over 47 2/3 innings. That said, he was hit hard his last time out against Indianapolis with eight earned runs allowed over four frames. He hasn't gone deeper than four innings in either of his last two starts for Columbus.

He can pitch Saturday while he's appealing an eight-game suspension. He'll then drop the appeal and, with an off day Thursday, can miss eight games without upsetting the rotation going forward.

  • Jordan Lyles RP | KC

Jordan Lyles continues to pitch well

Astros starting pitcher Jordan Lyles allowed fewer than three runs for the fifth start in a row Friday, but still earned a no-decision, in a 4-2 loss.

Lyles tossed seven strong innings in the game, holding the Royals to just two runs on six hits and a walk. He allowed both runs on a home run by Salvador Perez that put him down, 2-1. The Astros would fight back to get Lyles off the hook for the loss, but the bullpen ultimately faltered after he left the mound.

Lyles has a 4.03 ERA on the season, but allowed eight of his 20 earned runs in a single start during May.

He enters his next start with a 3-1 record. He will take on the Mariners in Seattle next Wednesday.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

    Lone mistake haunts Chris Sale

White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale made just one mistake Friday against the Athletics, but it was enough to earn him his fourth loss of the season.

Sale cruised through the first five innings, holding the A's scoreless on two hits, before running into trouble in the sixth. Sale allowed two singles and a walk with one out, before Josh Donaldson put the White Sox behind for good with grand slam. Off the bat, Sale thought the it was flyout that would cost him just one run.

"It sucks," Sale said to the Chicago Sun-Times. "It shows you how important one pitch can be in a ballgame."

Sale allowed four runs on five hits and two walks in 7 1/3 innings, as his record fell to 5-4. He also struck out six, while throwing 77 of 118 pitches for strikes.

Sale carries a 2.68 ERA into his next start, Wednesday against the Blue Jays.

  • Justin Verlander wins fourth straight start

Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander allowed three runs in seven innings Friday against the Indians, the third start in a row he has done so.

Verlander opened the game with four shutout innings while the team built a 5-0 lead, and he did enough to make that lead stand up. He allowed three runs in the fifth inning, on five hits, including a double by Jason Kipnis that drove in two runs.

Verlander allowed the three runs on seven hits and two walks, while striking out six batters. He won his fourth start in a row, 7-5, to push his record to 8-4. Verlander has a 3.71 ERA on the season, but he has allowed at least three runs in six straight starts.

He will make his next start Wednesday against the Royals in Kansas City.

  • Jason Hammel SP | TEX

Long ball dooms Jason Hammel again

Orioles starter Jason Hammel was outdueled Friday against the Rays, and his issues with homers continued to bug him. Hammel made just one mistake in the game, when he surrendered a seventh-inning home run to Rays outfielder Desmond Jennings, but that was enough to cost him the game.

Hammel held the Rays to just three hits through the first six innings, but allowed a single and home run to open the seventh. He was relieved with two outs in the seventh after walking a hitter and allowing another hit.

Hammel allowed just the two runs on six hits and two walks, but was stuck with the 2-1 loss. He struck out three batters and threw 63 of 105 pitches for strikes.

He has lost two starts in a row for the first time this season, and will try to break that trend in his next start, scheduled for Wednesday against the Angels. Hammel is 7-4 on the season with a 5.18 ERA.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Corey Kluber a surprisingly useful option

Indians starter Corey Kluber doesn't have a long track record of success in the majors, but what he's done this season has been impressive.

Kluber may have a 4.56 ERA, but his 3.39 FIP is a much more accurate indicator of how he'll pitch going forward. The advanced stats like Kluber because he's been able to strikeout over a batter per inning, but has also limited walks at a high rate. Kluber has been hurt partially by a high BABIP. He's also given up home runs at an above average rate. If his luck turns, or he starts limited homers more effectively, he'll start living up to his FIP. He's a stealthy buy-low in Fantasy leagues right now.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Jose Quintana surrenders four runs in no-decision

White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana gave up four earned runs on seven hits and no walks in 7 2/3 innings against the A's Thursday while striking out two. He surrendered three home runs, two to outfielder Yoenis Cespedes, but escaped with a no-decision.

Quintana takes a 3-2 record and 3.95 ERA into a home game against the Blue Jays Tuesday.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

Dallas Keuchel solid in win over O's

Astros starter Dallas Keuchel got loads of run support with six home runs in a win over the Orioles Wednesday.

Keuchel allowed one earned over six innings, allowing five hits and two walk with three strikeouts over 100 pitches. Keuchel improved to 3-2 with a 4.70 ERA.

Keuchel has wins in back-to-back outings for the first time this season, giving up three runs over a span of 13 innings with seven Ks. Keuchel makes his next scheduled start Monday at Seattle.
