  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Chris Sale should only miss one start

Sources close to White Sox starting pitcher Chris Sale said Wednesday they expect he will only miss one start with "mild" shoulder tendinitis, according to CBSSports.com Baseball Insider Jon Heyman. Sale was scratched from his start Wednesday against the Red Sox as a precaution, with Hector Santiago replacing him on the hill.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

    Jose Quintana flirts with no-no

White Sox starting pitcher Jose Quintana flirted with a no-hitter during Tuesday's start against the Red Sox.

Quintana carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning before he surrendered a one-out broken-bat single to David Ortiz. He allowed just three hits as he fired 6 2/3 scoreless innings. The left-hander struck out five and walked two as he picked up his third win of the season.

"In the fifth inning, I realized, man, they haven't got a hit yet," Quintana said. "All I wanted to do was just get outs and keep the team ahead."

Quintana (3-1) picked up his first win since April 24. He is 1-1 with a 4.03 ERA in his last five starts. He is scheduled to make his next start Monday at home against the Cubs. He is 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA in four starts at home.

  • Corey Kluber SP | BOS

Corey Kluber Ks eight in losing effort

Indians starter Corey Kluber turned in a decent outing as he struck out eight but suffered his third loss of the season Tuesday night against the Tigers.

Kluber pitched five scorless innings before serving up a solo home run to Andy Dirks and a two-run shot to Miguel Cabrera in the sixth inning. The right-hander was charged with three runs and eight hits over 6 1/3 innings of work in a 5-1 defeat.

Kluber has struck out 12 and allowed six runs over his last 12 1/3 innings of work. He is scheduled to make his next start Sunday at Boston. He is 3-1 with a 5.40 ERA in four appearances (three starts) away from Progressive Field.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

    Yu Darvish suffers 1-0 defeat

Rangers starter Yu Darvish wasn't at his sharpest Tuesday at home against the Athletics. He may not have been able to avoid losing even if he was.

Darvish dropped his record to 7-2 on the year with a 2.84 ERA as he took the loss against Oakland's Dan Straily, who pitched seven shutout innings as the bullpen finished the job in the 1-0 game.

The Texas ace allowed just one run on five hits and three walks over six innings. The lone run he allowed came on a third-inning solo homer by Yoenis Cespedes. Darvish struck out five.

The 26-year-old won his seventh game his last time out despite giving up four runs. He hasn't had a double-digit strikeout game in a while, but still has 91 on the year over 66 2/3 innings to lead the American League.

Darvish will look to get back on the winning track when he next takes the ball Monday during a doubleheader at Arizona.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Kevin Gausman to make MLB debut Thursday

The Orioles will call up No. 2 prospect Kevin Gausman to make his major league debut Thursday in Toronto, FOX Sports reports and MLB.com confirmed Tuesday.

Gausman was not expected to be ready for the majors yet, despite speculation that he could be a viable option. Perhaps his last start for Double-A Bowie made the difference. Gausman earned a win as he allowed one run on four hits and one walk with 10 strikeouts over six innings.

For the season at Double-A, his first as a professional after being drafted last year, he's gone 2-4 with a 3.11 ERA with 49 Ks over 46 1/3 innings. That said, he's allowed two or fewer runs to score in five straight outings.

  • Alex Cobb SP | DET

    Alex Cobb earns fifth win

Rays starter Alex Cobb put together another solid performance Tuesday at Toronto. Cobb allowed just one earned run for the second consecutive start as he earned the win.

The Tampa Bay starter threw 107 pitches over 6 1/3 innings as he allowed just one earned run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts. The only run he gave up came on a Colby Rasmus solo homer to right in the fifth.

Cobb (5-2) has been phenomenal this season with his 2.73 ERA and 1.13 WHIP. He's struck out 54 over 59 1/3 innings and makes his next scheduled start Monday against Miami.

  • Chris Sale SP | ATL

Chris Sale scratched from Wednesday's start

White Sox starter Chris Sale was scratched from Wednesday's start against the Red Sox as a precautionary measure due to mild tendinitis in his left shoulder. He is expected to miss just one start.

Sale will be replaced Hector Santiago on Wednesday but is expected to make his next start Tuesday against the Cubs. He has struck out 19 and has not allowed a run over his last 23 innings of work. Sale is 4-0 with a 1.18 ERA in his last five starts.

  • Kyle Gibson SP | BAL

Kyle Gibson to remain in minors

Twins starter Kyle Gibson was not selected to start Friday's game.

The Twins were considering three pitchers for Friday's start, and chose Samuel Deduno. Manager Ron Gardenhire said Gibson will eventually pitch in the rotation this year, but now wasn't the time. Gibson has a 3.25 ERA through nine Triple-A starts this season.

  • Dallas Keuchel SP | MIL

    Dallas Keuchel earns first win

Astros starter Dallas Keuchel earned his first win of the season Monday against the Royals. Keuchel improved to 1-1 despite a so-so performance.

Jeremy Guthrie struggled for the Royals and Keuchel won behind Houston's offense. He allowed four earned runs on nine hits and four walks over 6 2/3 innings for the win. Keuchel struck out six and his ERA is 4.93.

The 25-year-old Houston starter has been decent in three starts after beginning the year out of the bullpen. His next start is scheduled for Sunday against Oakland.

  • Marcus Stroman SP | NYY

Marcus Stroman excels in first start post-suspension

Blue Jays pitcher prospect Marcus Stroman made his season debut Sunday for Double-A New Hampshire after serving a 50-game suspension for using performance-enhancing drugs, according to MLB.com. Stroman had a strong outing, picking up the win after tossing five scoreless innings.

The right-hander, who entered the year as the Blue Jays' fifth-best prospect, allowed four hits and one walk, while striking out six.

"Obviously, we're happy he's back pitching," Blue Jays assistant general manager Andrew Tinnish said. "I know he is, too. He's such a hard worker and dedicated young man. We expect he'll hit the ground running. He's been doing a lot of good things; he's in the right frame of mind. He'd been champing at the bit, and we were excited to get him back. Now that it's here, he just has to keep working."

The Blue Jays are in the process of converting the 2012 first-round pick into a starter.

"He's shown the ability to throw four pitches," Tinnish said. "I think there's a lot of quality on all four of them. He's not a tall guy, as we all know, but he's athletic, and he has a quick arm. When he commands his fastball, which he's been doing, and keeps it down in the zone, it makes his secondary stuff that much better."
