  • Cardinals' Connor Thomas: Sent outright to Triple-A

    The Cardinals outrighted Thomas to Triple-A Memphis on Thursday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

    Thomas was designated for assignment by St. Louis on Tuesday and passed through waivers unclaimed. He'll remain part of the organization -- but without a 40-man roster spot -- heading into the 2024 campaign.

    Padres' Jairo Iriarte: Nabs spot on 40-man

    The Padres selected Iriarte to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune reports.

    Iriarte enjoyed a breakout minor-league season in 2023, working to a 3.49 ERA with 128 strikeouts in 90.1 innings between High-A Fort Wayne and Double-A San Antonio. The 21-year-old right-hander is now protected from selection in next month's Rule 5 Draft.

    Dodgers' Nick Frasso: Selected to 40-man roster

    The Dodgers selected Frasso to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic reports.

    A fourth-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft out of Loyola Marymount University, the now 25-year-old right-hander has compiled a 2.96 ERA with 191 strikeouts in 152 career minor-league innings. Frasso finished the 2023 campaign with Triple-A Oklahoma City and could arrive in Los Angeles at some point in 2024.

    Giants' Kai-Wei Teng: Receives 40-man spot

    The Giants added Teng to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

    Teng split time between Double-A Richmond and Triple-A Sacramento last season, putting up a 4.42 ERA and 1.36 WHIP through 126.1 combined innings. Teng needs to work on his command before he can be relied on in the majors. but his impressive strikeout numbers warrant protection from the upcoming Rule 5 Draft.

    Cubs' Porter Hodge: Joins 40-man roster

    The Cubs selected Hodge to their 40-man roster Tuesday, Andy Martinez of Marquee Sports Network reports.

    Hodge struggled in his first year at Double-A, posting a 5.13 ERA and 1.41 WHIP across 80.2 frames, but the Cubs will give him a roster spot to prevent other teams from selecting him in next month's Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old right-hander will likely return to Double-A Tennessee to begin 2024.

  • Cardinals' Connor Thomas: Designated for assignment

    Thomas was designated for assignment by the Cardinals on Tuesday.

    Thomas, 25, struggled to a 5.53 ERA, 1.75 WHIP and 69:31 K:BB over 94.1 innings (17 starts, four relief appearances) this past season with Triple-A Memphis. He is no longer part of the 40-man roster in St. Louis.

    Cardinals' Sem Robberse: Elevated to 40-man roster

    The Cardinals selected Robberse to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

    Robberse was acquired from the Blue Jays this past July as part of the Jordan Hicks trade and is now protected from being plucked away by another organization in the upcoming Rule 5 Draft. The 22-year-old right-hander posted a 4.28 ERA and 130:57 K:BB in 124 innings this past summer between Double-A and Triple-A.

  • Cardinals' Adam Kloffenstein: Added to 40-man

    The Cardinals selected Kloffenstein to their 40-man roster Tuesday.

    Kloffenstein earned his way into the 40-man roster mix in St. Louis after pitching to a 3.16 ERA, 1.27 WHIP and 140:55 K:BB over 128 innings this past season between the Double-A and Triple-A levels. The 23-year-old right-hander could be a consideration for the major-league rotation at some point in 2024.

  • Yonny Chirinos SP | MIA

    Braves' Yonny Chirinos: Exits 40-man roster

    Chirinos (elbow) was designated for assignment by Atlanta on Tuesday.

    The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver claim Penn Murfee. Chirinos had seemed likely to be non-tendered, anyway, after posting a 5.40 ERA over 20 appearances for Tampa Bay and Atlanta in 2023. He ended the season on the 60-day injured list with an elbow problem and it's not clear what his current health status is.

  • Nationals' Mitchell Parker: Added to 40-man roster

    The Nationals selected Parker's contract from Triple-A Rochester on Tuesday, Andrew Golden of The Washington Post reports.

    Parker is now on the 40-man roster and protected from the Rule 5 Draft. The 24-year-old southpaw collected a 4.72 ERA and 150:61 K:BB over 124 innings between Double-A Harrisburg and Rochester in 2023. He'll likely return to Rochester to begin next season.
