Abbott (1-0) earned the win over Milwaukee on Monday, allowing one hit and four walks while striking out six batters over six scoreless innings.

Abbott's control was a bit shaky, but he gave up just one hit -- a fifth-inning Joey Wiemer double -- in six scoreless frames. The rookie southpaw walked four batters, though some of that may be chalked up to nerves as three of them came to the first six Brewers he faced. Abbott was already expected to get more than just a spot start, and his results Monday should cement that decision. He's tentatively slated to face the Cardinals on the road his next time out.

Oviedo allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and two walks over seven innings in Monday's win over the Athletics. He struck out five and did not factor in the decision,

Oviedo gave up three runs through three innings before settling in for a quality start. He turned in his longest outing since April and has allowed three or fewer runs in five straight starts. He's registered a 2.57 ERA during that span, dropping his season number down to 4.29 through 65 frames. Oviedo is currently projected to face the Mets at home this weekend.

Garrett (2-2) earned the win Monday, allowing four runs on six hits over five innings against Kansas City. He struck out six.

Garrett got off to an inauspicious start, allowing four runs over his first two innings. However, he'd manage to hold the Royals at bay while the Marlins rallied to overcome a 4-0 deficit and pick up the win. The 25-year-old Garrett had been pitching well coming into Monday's outing, holding opponents to two runs or fewer in his last four starts. Garrett sports a 4.47 ERA with a 1.30 WHIP and 60:12 K:BB over 12 starts (58.1 innings) this season.

Nola (5-4) allowed three unearned runs on one hit and three walks over seven innings Monday, striking out 12 and earning a win over Detroit.

Nola carried a no-hitter through 6.2 frames before coughing up a three-run homer. He wasn't tagged with any earned runs though, dropping his ERA to 4.30 after his best outing of the year. The 30-year-old also forced a season-high 21 swinging strikes, including 10 with his fastball. Prior to Monday's outing, Nola had allowed at least four runs in three of his last four appearances. He's currently lined up for a home matchup with the Dodgers this weekend.

Choi (forearm) allowed four hits and struck out two across three scoreless innings Wednesday against High-A Beloit.

Choi has looked sharp to begin the 2023 campaign and has yet to surrender a run over a pair of starts. He's fired six scoreless frames, striking out four while failing to issue a free pass over six innings of work.

Cueto (biceps/ankle) will throw live batting practice Tuesday, Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald reports.

Cueto has been out since early April, initially due to a biceps injury before he was pulled off a rehab assignment in early May with a sprained left ankle. The veteran right-hander's ability to face hitters again suggests he's close to restarting a rehab assignment, but he'll likely need at least a couple more weeks to get fully stretched out. With the Marlins' back-end starters performing well at the moment, Cueto may not have a spot in the rotation waiting for him once he's activated from the 60-day injured list.

Atlanta plans to promote Munoz from Triple-A Gwinnett on Tuesday, Hector Gomez of Z101Digital.com reports.

Munoz will be added to the 26-man active roster shortly before Tuesday's game against the Mets as a replacement for right-hander Michael Soroka, who was optioned to Gwinnett on Monday. With top pitching prospect AJ Smith-Shawver likely to move from the bullpen to take over Soroka's spot in the rotation, Munoz will fill the opening in Atlanta's relief corps. The 23-year-old right-hander will likely be limited to lower-leverage spots initially in his first taste of the big leagues after he compiled a 4.63 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 21:16 K:BB across 23.1 innings at Gwinnett this season.

Smith-Shawver could make a start for Atlanta on Friday or Saturday versus the Nationals, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.

Michael Soroka was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett earlier Monday, freeing up a spot in the rotation. Smith-Shawver made his major-league debut in relief Sunday in Arizona after Soroka struggled early on in his start, and the rookie fired 2.1 scoreless frames with three strikeouts. The 20-year-old barely has more than 100 professional innings under his belt, but his upside warrants rostering in most leagues.

Atlanta optioned Soroka to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

After being called up from Gwinnett last week, Soroka made a pair of starts for Atlanta in what marked his first big-league action since 2020 following his recovery from multiple injuries. Over the two outings, the right-hander surrendered nine runs on 12 hits and six walks while hitting two batters and striking out five others over 9.2 innings. With Soroka failing to deliver the sort of results that Atlanta was hoping for from a back-end starter, the team will send the right-hander back to Gwinnett with the hope he gets back on track and potentially rejoins the big club later in 2023. Rookie AJ Smith-Shawver, who tossed 2.1 scoreless innings out of the bullpen in Sunday's win over Arizona, could be the next man up to join the rotation when Soroka's turn comes up again later this week.

Atlanta transferred Fried (forearm) from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL on Monday.

The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for waiver pickup Luke Williams. Fried is throwing again as he works his way back from a left forearm strain, but it's going to take several weeks for him to complete the ramp-up process. As a result of his move to the 60-day IL, Fried won't be eligible for activation until early July.
