Anderson didn't factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing one hit and one walk over five scoreless innings in a 3-1 loss against Cincinnati. He struck out three.

Anderson stepped straight into the Colorado rotation after being waived by the Rays earlier this week, taking the place of Antonio Senzatela (elbow) and turning in a fantastic outing. He held the Reds to just one hit, which came on a Wil Myers single in the third, while lasting five innings. He was limited to just 59 pitches after coming out of the bullpen with Tampa Bay earlier this season. Though Tuesday's outing was certainly encouraging, managers shouldn't expect this form to continue for Anderson, considering he's finished each of the last three seasons with an ERA above 6.00 (105.2 innings). However, he will likely have the opportunity to make a handful of starts considering the Rockies have several starters on the injured list.

Stripling will start Wednesday's contest against the Phillies, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

The Giants have six healthy starters again with Alex Wood recently returning from the 15-day injured list, but the team appears set to maintain a five-man rotation. Stripling looks like he'll stick as the No. 5 starter over Sean Manaea, who will presumably move to the bullpen. Stripling has often pitched as a bulk hurler in 2023 -- he has yet to throw more than five innings in any of his eight appearances for the Giants this season -- and it's possible Manaea could be a relief option for Wednesday's contest as well.

Cobb allowed two runs on five hits and five walks while striking out three over 3.1 innings in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Tuesday.

In addition to his season-high five walks, he also had two wild pitches and a balk. Considering Cobb hadn't allowed a run in three of his last four outings, this was an unusually poor effort. It's also the third time in nine starts he's failed to complete four innings, though he's yet to give up more than three runs in any game. Cobb owns a 1.94 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 44:13 K:BB over 51 innings. He's tentatively projected for a road start in Minnesota early next week.

Manger Bob Melvin told reporters after Tuesday's loss to the Royals that Lugo strained his calf while covering first to record his final out, and he's unlikely to make his next scheduled start, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Lugo may not have been long for the outing anyway as he allowed five runs over two innings in the loss to Kansas City, and the injury will likely keep him from being able to pitch again this weekend. The Padres could turn to Ryan Weathers if Lugo required a stint on the injured list, but for now, the right-hander should be considered day-to-day.

Lugo (3-3) took the loss Tuesday versus the Royals, allowing five runs on four hits and two walks over two innings. He struck out two.

It was Lugo's shortest outing of the season, and the five runs he allowed were a season high. The Royals did all of their damage in the second inning, and while the Padres pulled within a run, the comeback fell short. Lugo's mostly been effective as a starter this season, logging five quality starts in eight outings. He has a 4.10 ERA, 1.37 WHIP and 38:11 K:BB through 41.2 innings. The right-hander is tentatively projected for a road start versus the Nationals next week.

Manager Craig Counsell said after Tuesday's win over the Cardinals that Miley (lat) will require a trip to the injured list, Sophia Minnaert of Bally Sports Wisconsin reports.

The veteran left-hander exited Tuesday's start in St. Louis after just five outs due to a lat strain, and he'll spend at least the next couple weeks on the shelf. Miley is returning to Milwaukee to undergo further evaluation, which could reveal the severity of the injury.

The Cardinals will recall Liberatore from Triple-A Memphis to start Wednesday's game against the Brewers in St. Louis, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Liberatore isn't coming up from the minors to replace an injured pitcher, as the Cardinals instead want to give all five of their starters an extra day of rest. The lefty struggled in 2022 during his time in the big leagues in 2022 (5.97 ERA and 28:18 K:BB over 34.2 innings), but the 23-year-old has been excellent in Triple-A in 2023, logging a 3.13 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 56:17 K:BB over 46 frames. A strong showing against Milwaukee could be enough for Liberatore to stick with the Cardinals as part of a six-man rotation.

Steele (6-1) allowed five runs on five hits across six innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Astros. He walked one and struck out eight.

Steele took his first loss of the season but actually pitched pretty well by scattering six baserunners across six innings while tying his season high in strikeouts. Houston is a tough place to pitch, and the lefty still has a solid 2.44 ERA, so he should bounce back quickly. Steele is tentatively set to take the hill again Sunday against the Phillies.

Luzardo did not factor into the decision Tuesday, allowing a run on five hits and a walk over six innings against Washington. He struck out seven.

Lane Thomas' solo homer in the sixth inning was the lone blemish on Luzardo's line Tuesday after he held the Nationals to three hits through the first five frames. The 25-year-old left-hander has surrendered just two runs in his last two starts (12 innings) and lowered his ERA to 3.16 with a 1.36 WHIP and 55:17 K:BB through 51.1 innings this season. Luzardo is tentatively lined up to face the Giants in his next outing.

Gray didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins after allowing two runs (one earned) on seven hits and three walks over seven innings. He struck out five.

Gray allowed a pair of runs in the second inning before blanking the Marlins over his final five frames, completing seven innings in a second consecutive start. Gray has allowed two runs or fewer in seven of his nine outings this season. The 25-year-old right-hander has had a breakout start to the season -- he's 3-5 with a 2.73 ERA, 1.35 WHIP and 45:22 K:BB through 41.2 innings.
