Perez did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing two runs on four hits and two walks over 4.2 innings during a 7-4 loss to Cincinnati. He struck out seven.

Perez made the jump from Double-A Pensacola to make his MLB debut Friday, and despite taking a no-decision, he impressed with his stuff and gave Miami a chance to win the game. Both of the runs he allowed came via solo home runs, but he kept the bases clean for the most part and half of the rookie's outs were strikeouts. The 20-year-old presumably did enough to earn another start at the big-league level, which is tentatively scheduled for a three-game set versus Washington next week.

Ashcraft did not factor into the decision Friday, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings during a 7-4 win over the Marlins. He struck out three.

Ashcraft tossed three scoreless innings to start the game but allowed at least one run in each of his final three frames and was pulled in the sixth after allowing back-to-back two-out hits, including a solo home run to Peyton Burdick. It was a solid bounce-back outing for Ashcraft, who gave up eight runs in his previous start and was forced to leave the game in the second inning after being struck in the leg by a comebacker. Despite the terrible performance versus the White Sox, Ashcraft still boasts modest numbers (3.95 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 33:20 K:BB) across his first eight starts (43.1 innings).

Wood will start Monday's game versus the Phillies, Maria I. Guardado of MLB.com reports.

Wood returned from a hamstring injury Friday and allowed a run on three hits and a walk with one strikeout in one inning. Manager Gabe Kapler revealed Wood was only available for one inning due to an adjustment in the Giants' pitching plans for next week. With Friday's 31-pitch outing serving essentially as an in-game bullpen session between starts, the southpaw may remain on a pitch count for Monday's game. He threw just 46 pitches over 3.2 innings in his lone rehab appearance last Sunday with Triple-A Sacramento.

Gomber allowed three runs on five hits and struck out six over 6.2 innings without walking a batter in a no-decision versus the Phillies on Friday.

Four of the five hits Gomber allowed came in the seventh inning, and they led to all three runs thanks to home runs by Alec Bohm and Kyle Schwarber. Even with the late fade, this was Gomber's third straight quality start, though it's also the second time in eight outings he's allowed multiple homers. The 29-year-old southpaw has a 6.30 ERA, 1.45 WHIP and 28:16 K:BB across 40 innings this season. He's projected for a home start versus the Reds next week.

Walker allowed three runs on seven hits and struck out three without walking a batter over six-plus innings, taking a no-decision Friday versus the Rockies.

Walker was sharp early, then faded by allowing three runs over the sixth and seventh innings before he was relieved by Matt Strahm. This was Walker's fourth quality start in eight outings this season. The right-hander has had some uneven results with a 5.75 ERA, 1.38 WHIP and 38:17 K:BB through 40.2 innings, and he takes a 3-2 record into his next start, which is tentatively scheduled to be at San Francisco next week.

Smyly (4-1) allowed two runs on four hits across six innings to earn the win Friday against the Twins. He walked one and struck out four.

Smyly allowed two runs in the second inning before settling in to toss four straight scoreless frames and earn the victory. The lefty has looked good this year, as he now has a 3.05 ERA to go with a sparkling 0.97 WHIP. Smyly doesn't always go that deep into games, as this was only his third time tossing six innings or more across eight starts, but he's otherwise been effective. The veteran is tentatively set to take the mound again Wednesday against the Astros.

Wainwright allowed four runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings during Friday's victory against the Red Sox. He struck out two and did not factor in the decision.

Wainwright got through three scoreless frames before Boston broke through with a pair of runs in the fourth. He then served up back-to-back homers to Connor Wong and Enmanuel Valdez in the fifth. The veteran righty has been tagged with eight runs through 10 innings in his first two appearances of 2023. Wainwright will look for better results in his next start, which is projected to be at home against the Brewers next week.

Burnes (4-2) earned the win Friday over the Royals, giving up two hits and four walks while striking out seven over six scoreless innings.

The four walks were a season worst for Burnes, but the rest of his line was excellent. This was his second scoreless outing in eight starts this season. The right-hander has a 3.35 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 39:18 K:BB through 45.2 innings in 2023. He's lined up for a road start in St. Louis next week.

Strider (4-1) took the loss Friday as Atlanta fell 3-0 to the Blue Jays, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk over 6.2 innings. He struck out 12.

It's the third time in his last four starts Strider punched out double-digit batters, but the right-hander was outdueled by Chris Bassitt, who tossed a shutout for Toronto. Strider generated a stunning 49 called or swinging strikes among his 110 pitches, and he'll take a 2.70 ERA and 79:15 K:BB through 46.2 innings into his next outing, likely to come on the road next week against the Rangers.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters prior to Friday's game against the Padres that Buehler (elbow) has thrown off a mound and he's continuing to make progress, Matthew Moreno of DodgerBlue.com reports.

Buehler is working his way back from Tommy John surgery he underwent back in August. The right-hander has a chance to return late in 2023 in a best-case scenario, but it's more likely he won't be back in the Dodgers rotation until 2024.
