May dropped to 1-1 after giving up two earned runs on two hits and four walks while striking out three over 5.1 innings in Tuesday's 5-0 loss to the Giants.

After opening the season with two straight quality starts, May couldn't meet the six-inning threshold after his struggles to find the strike zone pushed up his pitch count. He began the game with back-to-back free passes, with both LaMonte Wade and Michael Conforto coming around to score on Joc Pederson's one-out double. May tightened things up thereafter and ended the start on a positive note by retiring four of the final five batters he faced while inducing a double play along the way, but he took the loss after opposing starter Alex Wood and five Giants relievers kept the Dodgers' bats quiet for the night.

The Rockies placed Marquez (forearm) on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Kyle Newman of The Denver Post reports.

Marquez's move to the IL was fully expected after he exited Monday's win over St. Louis with a right forearm strain. Fortunately for Marquez, an MRI has ruled out any structural damage to his forearm, so he could have a chance to return from the IL when first eligible April 26, or close to it. Triple-A Albuquerque starter Noah Davis seems to be the most likely candidate to take Marquez's spot in Colorado's rotation.

Brewers manager Craig Counsell confirmed after Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks that Junk will start the series finale in Arizona on Wednesday, Curt Hogg of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

As expected after he was called up from Triple-A Nashville earlier Tuesday, Junk will be filling the rotation spot of Brandon Woodruff (shoulder), who was moved to the 15-day injured list. Junk had turned in a pair of five-inning outings over his first two appearances at Nashville, striking out seven while allowing just eight baserunners.

Hendricks (shoulder) will throw two innings of live batting practice Wednesday, Taylor McGregor of Marquee Sports Network reports.

The live BP session was originally scheduled for Friday, but the Cubs are moving it up. Hendricks is working his way back from the right shoulder strain that has sidelined him to begin the 2023 campaign, and there's a good chance a rehab assignment could be in the forecast soon for the 33-year-old if all goes well during Wednesday's throwing session.

Kelly dropped to 0-2 on the season after surrendering three earned runs on one hit and four walks over six innings in Tuesday's 7-1 loss to the Brewers. He struck out seven in the 98-pitch outing.

Though Kelly ultimately came through with his second quality start in three outings on the season, fantasy managers might have been disappointed with his final line based on how magnificent he was the first two times he navigated the Milwaukee batting order. Kelly and Milwaukee ace Corbin Burnes were in the midst of a pitcher's duel through the first six innings before the former stepped back on the mound in the top of the seventh with a no-hitter still intact. Willy Adames spoiled Kelly's bid with a 407-foot home run to begin the frame, and the right-hander walked the next two batters before he was pulled from the contest. Reliever Miguel Castro proceeded to let both inherited runners score, resulting in Kelly's ERA moving up to 4.11 through 15.1 innings this season.

Burnes moved to 1-1 on the season after striking out eight and allowing three hits and no walks over eight shutout innings in Tuesday's 7-1 win over the Diamondbacks.

After he was roughed up for 10 earned runs and posted a 6:5 K:BB in 9.1 innings between his first two starts of the season, Burnes at least temporarily quelled any concerns about his demise by turning in a dazzling outing in Arizona. He was locked in a pitcher's duel with Merrill Kelly through the first six innings before Milwaukee finally broke through with a five-run seventh inning, providing all the cushion that Burnes would need on the night. He needed just 89 pitches to record his 24 outs and threw 65 strikes in the start, with 16 generating swings and misses.

Peterson (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks over 5.2 innings as the Mets fell 4-2 to the Padres. He struck out six.

The southpaw blanked San Diego for four innings before Manny Machado brought home two in the fifth with a double, but the New York offense couldn't get much going on the night. Peterson tossed 63 of 89 pitches for strikes before exiting, and he'll take a 4.91 ERA and 16:8 K:BB through three starts and 14.2 innings into his next outing, likely coming early next week on the road against the Dodgers.

Nola (0-2) took the loss Tuesday, giving up four runs on nine hits over 5.2 innings as the Phillies fell 8-4 to the Marlins. He struck out six without walking a batter.

It was an ominous sign for Nola when light-hitting Jon Berti took him deep for a solo shot in the third inning, but the right-hander didn't allow another run until the wheels came off in the sixth. He exited after 100 pitches (70 strikes), and while Nola's 7.04 ERA through his first three starts looks rough, it comes with a 15:3 K:BB through 15.1 innings that should reassure GMs that have him rostered. The 29-year-old will look for a better result in his next outing, likely to come this weekend in Cincinnati.

Luzardo (2-0) picked up the win in Tuesday's 8-4 victory over the Phillies, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over six innings. He struck out five.

The southpaw blanked Philly for five frames before stumbling in the sixth. Luzardo generated 16 swinging strikes among his 98 pitches as he continues an impressive start to the season that's seen him post a 1.93 ERA and 20:6 K:BB through his first three starts and 18.2 innings. The 25-year-old will look to keep rolling next week at home against the Giants.

Gray (0-3) took the loss Tuesday against the Angels after he gave up two runs on four hits and two walks over 5.2 innings. He struck out three.

The 25-year-old threw 55 of 103 pitches for strikes and generated just eight whiffs, but he was mostly able to keep the Halos in check. The Nationals mustered one hit Tuesday and have scored only a single run across Gray's three starts this season, leading to three straight losses despite a solid 4.32 ERA.
