Peterson didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 7-3 win over the Nationals, giving up three runs on eight hits and a walk over 5.1 innings. He struck out six.

The southpaw tossed 58 of 95 pitches for strikes in a solid outing, but the Mets' offense didn't take the lead for good until the bottom of the sixth inning. Peterson has a 3.38 ERA, 1.44 WHIP and 19:3 K:BB through 16 innings over his last three starts, but with Carlos Carrasco (oblique) set to rejoin the rotation Sunday, he could move into a long relief role over the final weeks of the season.

Gray (7-9) took the loss Friday, coughing up six runs on six hits and four walks over five innings as the Nationals were downed 7-3 by the Mets. He struck out two.

Four of the hits off the right-hander went for extra bases, including homers by Eduardo Escobar and Pete Alonso. It's the sixth time in his last nine starts Gray has served up multiple long balls, and he carries a shaky 6.08 ERA, 1.46 WHIP, 3.4 HR/9 and 54:22 K:BB through 47.1 innings over that stretch.

Gibson (9-6) took the loss Friday, allowing seven runs on five hits and four walks over 1.2 innings in a 13-1 loss to the Giants. He struck out two.

After a 40-pitch first inning, Gibson handed out a couple more free passes in the second before Joc Pederson cashed in with a three-run homer. In total, Gibson needed 65 pitches to record five outs. He had been on a nice run coming into Friday's game, posting a 2.41 ERA over his previous six starts, but this was a reminder of the inconsistency and downside we've seen with Gibson throughout his career.

Cobb (5-6) earned the win Friday, allowing three hits and one walk over seven scoreless innings in a 13-1 victory over Philadelphia. He struck out seven.

The Giants got to Kyle Gibson early and Cobb cruised from there en route to his fifth win. Cobb now sits with a 2.83 ERA, 1.20 WHIP and 10.2 K/9 in eight starts since the All-Star break (47.2 innings), and the underlying numbers suggest there may be even more improvement coming to his ERA. Cobb's 2.85 FIP this season would rank seventh in all of baseball if he had enough innings to qualify.

Elder was recalled from Triple-A Gwinnett to start Saturday's game against the Marlins.

Elder was sent down in mid-August following a dominant start, but he'll rejoin the big-league club to start Saturday's game on short notice after Jake Odorizzi (arm) was scratched. During his start against the Marlins on Aug. 14, Elder allowed just one run on three hits and three walks while striking out 10 in seven innings.

May (1-2) took the loss Friday, allowing six runs on four hits and five walks over five innings against the Padres. He struck out five.

After a couple of gems to start his season following his return from Tommy John surgery, May took a step backward Friday, with a pair of two-run homers allowed putting the Dodgers in an early hole. May, who turns 25 in a few days, now has a 4.50 ERA this season and a 3.12 ERA for his career at the major-league level. With his impressive fastball velocity and high-spin breaking ball, May has serious strikeout upside whenever he takes the mound for Los Angeles, though it's clear his command isn't all the way back.

Odorizzi has been scratched from Saturday's start against the Marlins due to arm fatigue, Justin Toscano of The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Odorizzi was relatively effective over his last two starts, but Atlanta will choose to skip his turn through the rotation this weekend due to his arm issue. Bryce Elder will take his place as Saturday's starter, while Odorizzi is expected to return to the mound sometime during Atlanta's series in Seattle next weekend.

Darvish (12-7) earned the win Friday, allowing two hits and two walks over seven scoreless innings against the Dodgers. He struck out nine.

The right-hander drew the assignment against the top scoring offense in all of baseball and emerged with his first win in four tries against the Dodgers this season. Darvish has been remarkably consistent both in terms of performance and workload, going at least six innings in each of his last 18 starts and posting a 2.84 ERA, 0.91 WHIP and 130:20 K:BB in that stretch.

Freeland did not factor into the decision against the Reds on Friday, allowing one run on eight hits while striking out three and walking one over 5.2 innings.

Freeland tossed 63 of 92 pitches for strikes across 5.2 frames. The only run he allowed was a solo shot to Spencer Steer in the fifth inning. Freeland has had an up-and-down season, with 10 games of four or more earned runs and 12 games of two or fewer earned runs. That has resulted in a 4.75 ERA for the lefty to go along with a 1.41 WHIP and a 7-9 record.

Davies allowed a run on six hits and a walk while striking out five in 4.2 innings during Friday's 2-1 win over the Brewers. He didn't factor into the decision.

Davies had lasted at least five innings in each of his five starts ahead of Friday's outing, but he fell just short of the mark against the Brewers since he required 91 pitches to get through 4.2 innings. Although the right-hander was able to hold the opposition in check once again, he was forced to settle for yet another no-decision. He's settled for no-decisions in eight consecutive outings and has posted a 3.27 ERA and 1.27 WHIP in 33 innings over his seven starts since returning from the injured list. Davies tentatively lines up to make his next start on the road against San Diego on Wednesday.
