  • Sonny Gray SP | BOS

Reds' Sonny Gray: Starting on Thursday

Gray will return to the mound for Thursday's game against the Cubs, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

This essentially results in Gray missing one start in order to get back in sync and get a little extra rest.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Racking up punchouts

Peralta threw 1.2 scoreless innings in Saturday's loss to Cleveland. He did not allow a hit, struck out four batters and walked three.

Peralta had some command issues Saturday, but he was able to prevent the opponent from putting any runs on the scoreboard. Peralta has allowed multiple runs on four separate occasions this season, but since giving up a season-high four tallies in his first outing he has posted a 3.06 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 35:8 K:BB in 17.2 innings over nine relief appearances.

  • Mitch Keller SP | PIT

Pirates' Mitch Keller: Moving closer to return

Keller (oblique) is set to throw another live batting practice session in the new few days, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Keller threw 35 pitches in two innings of batting practice Friday. With no setbacks from that session, Keller will throw again soon and could rejoin the rotation shortly thereafter. With just under a month remaining in the season, it's unclear how many starts Keller would be able to make, though the Pirates would likely want to see him return to the mound before the conclusion of the campaign.

  • Marlins' Sandy Alcantara: Returns to form Saturday

Alcantara (2-1) allowed one run on three hits and three walks while striking out eight across six innings Saturday as he earned the win over the Rays.

Alcantara was dominant Saturday, striking out a season-high eight while surrendering just one run on a fifth-inning double to right by Michael Perez. The young right-hander struggled against the same Rays team last Sunday, when he allowed five runs in four innings, so it was nice to see him bounce back and pick up the win. Alcantara lowered his ERA to a 3.78 but has shown some struggles finding the strike zone at times, owning a 17:7 K:BB across 16.2 innings of work this season. He lines up to face the Phillies on Thursday.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Can't keep ball in yard

Williams (1-6) took the loss Saturday as the Pirates were downed 6-2 by the Reds, coughing up five runs on five hits -- including three home runs -- and three walks. He struck out six.

It's the second time this season the right-hander has served up three homers in a game, and his HR/9 now stands at a ghastly 2.23. Williams has struck out batters at a career-high 21.0 percent clip in 2020, but that's about the only silver lining to his performance so far. He'll carry a 5.80 ERA and 1.51 WHIP through 40.1 innings into his next outing Saturday in Kansas City.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Early exit in win

DeSclafani didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-2 win over the Pirates, allowing two runs on six hits and three walks over four-plus innings. He struck out two.

The right-hander appeared headed for his second win of the season after a four-run third inning by the Reds, but after DeSclafani walked Bryan Reynolds to lead off the fifth he got the hook and fell short of qualifying. DeSclafani threw 83 pitches (49 strikes) in this one but hasn't been able to complete five innings in any of his last four appearances. He'll carry a 7.20 ERA, 1.76 WHIP and 16:14 K:BB through 25 IP into his next outing Friday in St. Louis.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Picks up win in matinee

Wainwright (4-0) allowed two runs on six hits and one walk while striking out six over 6.1 innings as he earned the win in Game 1 of Friday's doubleheader against the Cubs.

Outside of allowing a pair of solo home runs by Ian Happ, Wainwright kept the Cubs' offense in check to earn his second consecutive save. The right-hander has been dominant out of the Cardinals' rotation this year as he now carries a 2.68 ERA and 0.92 WHIP over 40.1 innings across his first six starts of 2020. His next start could come at home Thursday against the Tigers as part of another doubleheader.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Surrenders three earned runs

Fried allowed three earned runs on five hits and three walks while striking out four across five innings Saturday against Washington. He did not factor into the decision.

Fried struggled to find his command early, issuing two free passes and hitting a batter in the first frame. That resulted in two of his earned runs. He did settle in from there, as the only additional run came on a botched double play ball in the fifth inning. Fried has been stellar through 50 innings this season, maintaining a 1.98 ERA with 47 strikeouts. He's in line to draw his next start Thursday at Washington.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Impressive again in no-decision

Gonsolin pitched six innings against Colorado on Saturday, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits while striking out eight. He did not factor in the decision.

Gonsolin has yet to record a decision this season, but he has allowed only two earned runs through 23.2 innings while compiling an impressive 25:5 K:BB. He finally allowed his first long ball of the season Saturday -- a solo shot by Charlie Blackmon in the fourth inning -- but has given up only 12 hits en route to a sparkling 0.72 ERA. The right-hander has essentially forced the Dodgers to keep him in the rotation given his excellence on the campaign, and he'll get his next opportunity to toe the mound at home against Houston next Saturday.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Picks up quality start Saturday

Marquez completed seven innings against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.

Marquez was dinged for two runs in the fifth inning but otherwise kept Los Angeles off the scoreboard in the effective outing. After rattling off four consecutive quality starts between July 29 and Aug. 15, the right-hander struggled in his three subsequent outings, allowing 18 earned runs over 16 innings and picking up two losses. Though he was kept out of the win column Saturday, the start could turn the tide back in a positive direction for Marquez as he looks to put together a strong September. His next start will be at home against the Angels on Friday.
