  • Austin Gomber SP | TEX

Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Effective as opener

Gomber threw 2.2 scoreless innings against the Cubs in Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader, allowing one hit and three walks while striking out five.

Gomber did not go deep enough to qualify for the win, but he pitched well in his first start of the campaign and set St. Louis up for a 5-1 victory. The southpaw struggled with his command, throwing only 30 of 55 pitches for strikes and issuing three walks, but he escaped damage on the scoreboard by registering a strikeout for five of his eight outs. It remains to be seen how Gomber will be deployed moving forward -- the Cardinals will play five doubleheaders over the next two weeks -- but he figures to get steady work given his 0.64 ERA and 1.00 WHIP through 14 innings this season.

  • Seth Lugo SP | KC

Mets' Seth Lugo: Grabs win, avoids injury

Lugo gave up one earned run over five innings and picked up the win Saturday against the Phillies. Per Anthony DiComo of MLB.com, Lugo underwent a precautionary X-ray on his right hand after being struck by a batted ball on the final pitch of his outing, but the exam was negative.

Lugo was on top of his game Saturday, allowing just four hits while striking out eight batters and walking two. More importantly, he set season highs with 81 pitches and five innings, which allowed him to stay in the game long enough to qualify for the win. Lugo said he was "not even worried about" the injury when asked, so he should avoid missing any time. His pitch count has steadily increased since the Mets moved him to the rotation, and he should be able to tack on a few more his next time out.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Can't work deep

Woodruff allowed three earned runs on four hits and three walks while striking out seven across 4.1 innings Saturday against Cleveland. He did not factor into the decision.

Woodruff got through four scoreless innings with relative ease. However, things quickly took a turn in the fifth frame, as he allowed a walk, double and home run consecutively before being pulled from the contest. Positively, Woodruff continued to rack up strikeouts, and he now has 22 punchouts across his last 15.1 frames. He'll look to work deeper into his next start, currently projected to come Friday against the Cubs.

  • Colin Rea SP | CHC

Cubs' Colin Rea: Tagged with loss in second game

Rea (1-1) allowed four runs on five hits across two innings to take the loss in the second game of Saturday's doubleheader against the Cardinals. He walked two and struck out three.

Rea pitched a scoreless first inning but things went downhill quickly from there. He allowed two home runs in the second, then started the third by allowing three straight singles before getting the hook. Rea's ERA climbed to 5.79 in the process. The righty is likely to return to the bullpen at some point, but with both Jose Quintana (lat) and Tyler Chatwood (forearm) currently on the shelf, Rea remains an option to make some spot starts.

  • David Peterson SP | CHC

Mets' David Peterson: Moving back into rotation

Peterson will return to the rotation to start Monday against the Phillies, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Peterson moved to the bullpen earlier in the weekend, though the arrangement was evidently a very temporary one, as he'll return to the rotation after pitching just once in relief. Peterson has been a useful arm for the Mets in 29.2 innings this season, posting a 3.03 ERA, though his 17.4 percent strikeout rate and 10.7 percent walk rate indicate some regression could be coming.

  • Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL

Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Out with kidney issue

Kim landed on the 10-day injured list due to a kidney issue Saturday, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.

Kim reportedly was dealing with abdominal pain Friday morning and had to be taken to the emergency room, where a kidney blockage was discovered. He's reportedly feeling much better and is likely to pitch again this season. The transaction was made retroactive to Wednesday, meaning he can return to action next Saturday, though it's not yet clear whether he's expected to do so.

  • Kwang Hyun Kim SP | STL

Cardinals' Kwang-Hyun Kim: Placed on 10-day IL

Kim was placed on the 10-day injured list for an undisclosed reason, retroactive to Wednesday.

Kim was dominant in Tuesday's start as he earned his second win of the season, but he'll now miss time with an undisclosed issue. Dakota Hudson will start Sunday in his place. It's unclear how much time Kim is expected to miss.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Sent down following doubleheader

Ynoa was optioned to the Braves' alternate training site Saturday.

Ynoa struggled mightily in a spot start during Game 2 of Friday's doubleheader, and he'll head to the team's alternate camp in hopes of turning things around. Right-hander Chad Sobotka was recalled in a corresponding move.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Padres' Zach Davies: Earns win over Athletics

Davies (6-2) earned the win Friday against Oakland by tossing seven scoreless innings, allowing four hits and four walks while fanning five.

Davies earned a fourth straight win and has not allowed more than three earned runs in any outing this season while fanning at least five in all but one game so far. In fact, he is coming off back-to-back scoreless performances, so the right-hander is clearly trending in the right direction. He will carry a 2.23 ERA and a stellar 0.93 WHIP into next Wednesday's matchup at home against Colorado.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Giants' Tyler Anderson: Second straight loss

Anderson (1-3) was tagged with the loss Friday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed four runs on seven hits and one walk while fanning two across four innings.

Anderson's last two starts against Arizona haven't been pretty -- he has given up 11 runs on 16 hits and four walks while fanning five across 8.2 innings. He also tossed a complete game against the Diamondbacks on Aug. 22, however, so he has shown the ability to get things done in the past. Through nine appearances (seven starts), Anderson owns a 5.18 ERA and 1.45 WHIP this season. His next scheduled start will come Sept. 9 at home against the Mariners.
