Tony Gonsolin RP | KC
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Sent down after excellent outing
Gonsolin was optioned to the alternate training site Wednesday, Eric Stephen of True Blue LA reports.
He has not allowed a run across three outings (14.2 innings) this season, but baseball can be an unfair game, especially for talented young players on the Dodgers. The Dodgers are off Monday and can continue with their five-man rotation (Gonsolin was occupying a sixth starter spot) until at least Aug. 30, which is after Gonsolin's option period would end. Ross Stripling has scuffled of late, so it would seem that Gonsolin could replace Stripling in the rotation if that trend continues. Otherwise he will have to bide his time until the Dodgers need a sixth starter or some length out of the bullpen.

Johan Oviedo SP | BOS
Cardinals' Johan Oviedo: Expected to start evening game
Oviedo is expected to be called up to start the second game of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, Jeff Jones of the Belleville News-Democrat reports.
The transaction isn't expected to be made official until after the conclusion of the first game. Oviedo is at least a moderately interesting prospect, with good stuff held back by poor command, but it's tough to project him for immediate success. He's yet to pitch above Double-A and struggled to a 5.65 ERA in 23 starts at that level for Springfield last season, with a 12.4 percent walk rate offsetting his 24.9 percent strikeout rate.

Jake Woodford RP | TB
Cardinals' Jake Woodford: Up again as extra man
Woodford was called up to serve as the 29th man for Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs.
Woodford filled the same role during Monday's doubleheader but did not appear in either contest. He did make one appearance earlier in the year, allowing one run in three innings.

Austin Gomber SP | TEX
Cardinals' Austin Gomber: Activated from injured list
Gomber was activated from the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday.
Gomber never tested positive for the virus but was placed on the injured list nonetheless due to contact tracing identifying him as being at risk. He'll likely be available out of the bullpen in both halves of Wednesday's doubleheader against the Cubs, as Johan Oviedo is expected to start the nightcap.

Tony Gonsolin RP | KC
Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Blanks M's in no-decision
Gonsolin didn't factor into the decision in Tuesday's 2-1 win over the Mariners, scattering two hits over six scoreless innings while striking out three.
The right-hander didn't walk a batter, but he did plunk Dee Gordon with a pitch, and Gonsolin left the game in line for his first win until Jake McGee and Scott Alexander combined to give up Seattle's lone run in the seventh. Gonsolin has yet to allow a run in 14.2 innings over three starts this season, posting a 0.55 WHIP and 12:2 K:BB. However, if the Dodgers return to a five-man rotation, he could be the odd man out despite his success so far.

Humberto Mejia SP | NYM
Marlins' Humberto Mejia: Takes first loss Tuesday
Mejia (0-1) took the loss Tuesday, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over four innings as the Marlins were downed 8-3 by the Mets. He struck out one.
The 23-year-old's second big-league appearance was bumpier than his first, as Mejia served up two homers among his 56 pitches (37 strikes). There's little to indicate he's ready for a regular spot in the rotation, but until the Marlins start getting pitchers back from the COVID-19 injured list, he'll continue to get pressed into service as the team's fifth starter. Mejia will carry a 5.68 ERA and 1.58 WHIP into his next outing Sunday, on the road against the Nats.

Yu Darvish SP | SD
Cubs' Yu Darvish: Picks up fourth win
Darvish (4-1) earned the win over St. Louis on Tuesday, pitching six innings and allowing one run on eight hits and one walk while striking out seven.
Darvish allowed at least one hit in all but one of his innings, but he was able to limit the Cardinals to one run by inducing two double plays and yielding only one extra-base knock. The quality start was the fourth in a row for Darvish, each of which has resulted in a win. He has allowed only three runs in 26 innings during that span, lowering his season ERA to a pristine 1.80. The right-hander is next projected to start at home against the White Sox on Sunday.

Corbin Burnes SP | ARI
Brewers' Corbin Burnes: Solid in return to rotation
Burnes pitched five innings against Minnesota on Tuesday, allowing one run on two hits and three walks while striking out five. He did not factor in the decision.
Burnes started for the first time since July 25 and was mostly effective in the outing, limiting a potent Minnesota offense to one run and five baserunners in five innings. He did struggle some with his control, allowing three walks and throwing only 49 of 83 pitches for strikes. If Burnes get another turn in the rotation, it is expected to come on the road against Pittsburgh on Sunday.

Zach Eflin SP | BAL
Phillies' Zach Eflin: Whiffs eight in no-decision
Eflin gave up four runs on five hits and three walks while striking out eight in four innings Tuesday versus the Red Sox. He did not factor in the decision.
Eflin needed 86 pitches (52 strikes) to get through his four innings in the high-scoring contest. The 26-year-old has been boom or bust through three starts -- he's got a 5.14 ERA and 23:5 K:BB in 14 innings this season. Eflin will look to limit the runs his next time out, currently scheduled for Sunday in Atlanta.

J.T. Brubaker RP | SF
Pirates' JT Brubaker: Surrenders three earned runs
Brubaker allowed three earned runs on three hits and three walks while striking out one across three innings Tuesday against Cleveland. He did not factor into the decision.
Brubaker held Cleveland scoreless through two innings. However, he ran into trouble in his final frame, allowing a leadoff double before loading the bases and allowing a two-RBI single to Carlos Santana to account for the majority of the damage. This was Brubaker's second major-league start, though he has not worked more than three innings in any contest this season. Between a workload as both a starter and reliever, he has a 4.91 ERA with a 10:6 K:BB across 11 frames this season.
