Zac Gallen SP | ARI
Diamondbacks' Zac Gallen: Strikes out nine in defeat
Gallen (3-5) struck out nine while allowing three runs on five hits with two walks across six innings while taking a loss against the Mets on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks went 2-for-8 with runners in scoring position, and only one of their players posted an RBI in this loss for Gallen. He pitched well but didn't receive enough run support. He owns a 2.66 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, .210 batting average against and 91 strikeouts in 74.1 innings this season. Gallen is scheduled to be back on the hill at home Sunday against the Reds.

Zack Wheeler SP | PHI
Mets' Zack Wheeler: Works around baserunners in win
Wheeler (11-7) allowed one run on seven hits with two walks and seven strikeouts across seven innings to earn a victory against the Diamondbacks on Tuesday.
He's allowing a lot of baserunners and owns a 1.56 WHIP in his last three outings, but during that stretch, he's also pitched three one-run games (1.50 ERA). One has to figure all the baserunners will eventually catch up to Wheeler, but he has just a handful of starts remaining, and owners have to ride the hot streak. He has a 4.21 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 170 strikeouts in 173.1 innings this season. Wheeler will be back on the hill at home Sunday against the Dodgers.

Jose Quintana SP | COL
Cubs' Jose Quintana: Stymied by Padres on Tuesday
Quintana did not factor into the decision against San Diego on Tuesday, pitching three innings and giving up six runs (four earned) on seven hits while striking out one.
Quintana entered the game having completed five or more innings in 10 of his last 12 starts but matched his shortest outing of the season by lasting only three frames against the Padres. He retired the side in order in the first inning, but a pair of infield singles leading off the second set up a five-run frame that included no extra-base hits. Quintana then gave up a solo home run to Ty France in the third inning and did not return for the fourth, exiting the game after throwing 57 pitches. The southpaw owns a 4.15 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and 143:43 K:BB through 160.1 innings this season and will head home to take on the Pirates on Sunday in his next scheduled start.

Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Hit hard by Giants
Keller (1-4) took the loss against the Giants on Tuesday, giving up five earned runs on nine hits over five innings, striking out seven and walking none as the Pirates fell 5-4.
Keller made his return after a knock to the wrist pushed his start back, but it didn't go well, with the Giants jumping on him for three earned in the first inning before added two more in the fifth and chasing him after 93 pitches. He's only thrown 38 big-league innings this season, but the results haven't been pretty, with Keller sporting a bloated 8.29 ERA and 1.87 WHIP in his nine starts.

Johnny Cueto SP | LAA
Giants' Johnny Cueto: Sharp in season debut
Cueto (1-0) picked up the win against the Pirates on Tuesday, giving up just one hit over five scoreless innings, striking out four and walking one as the Giants won 5-4.
Making his first start of the season after getting activated from the 60-day injured list coming off Tommy John surgery, Cueto was sharp, yielding just two baserunners before exiting after five innings and 69 pitches. He certainly looked healthy and back to form, and while he missed too much time to make a sustained impact this season, a strong finish to the year would bode well for Cueto's value for 2020.

Walker Buehler SP | SD
Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Earns 13th win
Buehler (13-3) allowed four hits and no walks while striking out 11 across seven innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Orioles.
Buehler took advantage of a favorable matchup, sitting down 21 Orioles on just 91 pitches. He generated a very impressive 19 swinging strikes to secure his second 11-strikeout performance in his last three starts. It was also a continuation of his stellar season, as he now owns a 3.14 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while striking out 201 batters across 166.1 innings. He's likely to make his next start either Sunday on the road versus the Mets or next Tuesday at home versus Tampa Bay.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Return date undetermined
Ryu threw a bullpen session Tuesday but the date of his next start has yet to be determined, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.
Ryu last pitched Sept. 4, giving up three runs in 4.1 innings. The Dodgers elected to skip his subsequent start in order to allow the southpaw time to rest in response to a recent rough stretch in which he has surrendered 21 runs over his last 19 frames. Though Ryu was expected to make his next scheduled start, manager Dave Roberts indicated Tuesday that the date of his return to the rotation is "not certain yet." The Dodgers have already wrapped up the National League West, so they have the luxury of giving the 32-year-old additional time off if they decide that's the best course of action.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Takes loss Tuesday
Fried (16-5) allowed five earned runs on seven hits and one walk while striking out five across five innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Phillies.
Fried surrendered three home runs in the first inning, accounting for four of his five earned runs. He did settle in after that, allowing only three hits across his next four innings of work to somewhat mitigate the early damage. His past five starts have been a mixed bag, as he's recorded two quality stats but also surrendered five earned runs on two occasions. Overall, it's been a successful season for the 25-year-old, as he's managed a 4.02 ERA and 1.33 WHIP with 164 strikeouts across 154.1 innings. He'll look to get back on track in his next start, currently scheduled for Sunday at Washington.

Chase Anderson RP | TEX
Brewers' Chase Anderson: Takes another no-decision
Anderson allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over four innings during Tuesday's game at Miami. He struck out two and did not qualify for the decision.
The 31-year-old received a quick hook as he was pulled for a pinch hitter in the top of the fifth inning while leading 3-2, costing him a chance at the win. Anderson labored during his final inning and had trouble putting away hitters throughout the outing, as the Marlins worked multiple 10-plus-pitch at-bats. The right-hander has a 4.57 ERA, 1.31 WHIP and 112:45 K:BB through 124 innings and lines up to pitch Sunday at St. Louis.

Joe Musgrove SP | SD
Pirates' Joe Musgrove: May start Thursday
Musgrove (foot) is tentatively scheduled to start Thursday's game at San Francisco, Nubyjas Wilborn of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.
Musgrove was scratched from Friday's scheduled start with right foot discomfort, and he'll take at least one additional day before returning to the starting rotation. Dario Agrazal will take the mound Wednesday, while Alex McRae is waiting to serve as a spot starter Thursday should Musgrove be unable to pitch.
