  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Provides seven strong frames

Wacha allowed two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings during Game 2 of Saturday's doubleheader against the Reds. He struck out seven but did not factor in the decision.

Wacha served up solo homers during the first and third innings, but he generated 13 swinging strikes and otherwise held the Reds in check during the nightcap. The 28-year-old pitched well Saturday but isn't guaranteed to remain in the starting rotation given his inconsistencies this season (5.07 ERA and 1.55 WHIP) as the Cardinals attempt to secure a playoff spot.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Struggles through three frames

Lopez (5-7) took the loss Saturday at Washington after surrendering six runs on six hits over three innings. He struck out one and did not walk a batter.

Lopez served up back-to-back homers to Anthony Rendon and Juan Soto during the first inning, which set the tone for the following two frames. The 23-year-old has a 4.89 ERA, 1.16 WHIP and 77:19 K:BB this season but has a more favorable matchup against the Royals on Friday.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Goes 4.2 innings

Davies allowed four hits and one walk while striking out two over 4.2 scoreless innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Saturday.

Davies had posted zeros and was one out short of qualifying for the win, but with reinforcements coming Sunday via roster expansion, manager Craig Counsell didn't hesitate to turn to his bullpen early. Back spasms sidelined Davies for a while in August and he's been hurt by the long ball lately; it may be frustrating for fantasy owners, but Counsell was probably wise not to test his luck. Davies still has just one win since the All-Star break. He faces the Cubs yet again next week in what will be his sixth start against them this season.

  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: No-decision versus Padres

Webb did not factor in the decision Saturday versus the Padres, allowing a run on seven hits and a walk. He struck out seven over 5.2 innings.

Webb got just a single run of support in the form of Austin Slater's solo home run in the first inning, and he gave up the game-tying single to Manuel Margot in the sixth inning, ending his appearance. The 22-year-old owns a 3.52 ERA in 15.1 innings across three career starts. He's not guaranteed to stay in the rotation when Johnny Cueto (elbow) returns, but Webb should see at least one more start, likely Thursday versus the Cardinals.

  • Cole Hamels SP | SD

Cubs' Cole Hamels: Takes fifth loss

Hamels (7-5) allowed two runs on five hits and three walks while striking out seven over six innings in a loss to the Brewers on Saturday.

Hamels walked two of the first four batters he faced and Manny Pina cashed in, driving home two runs on a single to account for all of the scoring in the game. The lefty allowed a total of five baserunners over his final five frames. He had an eight-run blowup Aug. 14 in his third start back from an oblique injury, but Hamels has pitched pretty well in three starts since then (3.71 ERA, 15:6 K:BB). He gets these same Brewers again next week, this time at Miller Park.

  • Joey Lucchesi RP | LAA

Padres' Joey Lucchesi: Strong in no-decision

Lucchesi pitched six innings, allowing one run on eight hits and a walk while striking out three in a no-decision versus the Giants on Saturday.

The only run on Lucchesi's line came on an Austin Slater home run in the first inning. While Lucchesi was generous with the baserunners, he escaped danger effectively throughout the game. The left-hander allowed 13 runs over 32.2 innings in August, good for a 3.58 ERA in six starts. The 26-year-old owns a 4.00 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 135 strikeouts over 144 innings this season. He remains at 9-7 entering his next start at home versus the Rockies next Saturday.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Whiffs 14 in eight scoreless frames

Strasburg (16-5) recorded 14 strikeouts and allowed two hits and zero walks over eight scoreless innings to earn the win Saturday against the Marlins.

Strasburg absolutely pounded the zone Saturday, generating 26 swinging strikes while throwing 81 of his 107 pitches for strikes. The 31-year-old gave up two singles during the first inning but then retired the next 22 batters he faced. Strasburg has a 3.47 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 215:43 K:BB through 179 innings and lines up to pitch Thursday in Atlanta.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Set to start Sunday

Stripling (biceps) will start Sunday's game at Arizona, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Stripling has been sidelined over five weeks with biceps tendinitis but will rejoin the Dodgers on Sunday when rosters expand. The 29-year-old covered three innings during his last rehab outing in the Arizona Summer League and is expected to have a similar workload Sunday, per Plunkett. Dustin May is also scheduled to cover some innings out of the bullpen.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Not expected to have turn skipped

Manager Dave Roberts suggested after Thursday's loss to the Diamondbacks that Ryu wouldn't have his next turn through the rotation skipped, Jake Rill of MLB.com reports. "I see him making his next start. We're going to talk about it, but the plan is for him to make that start," Roberts said. "The last couple times, we've given him an extra day, so that's probably how we're going to go right now."

The All-Star opened the outing versus Arizona by retiring nine of the first 10 batters he faced, but imploded thereafter, tying his season high with seven runs allowed before he was pulled midway through the fifth inning. After carrying a 1.45 ERA for the season through his first 22 outings, Ryu has now been charged with 18 runs allowed over his last three starts, surrendering five home runs over that stretch. Rather than giving Ryu some time off to guard against fatigue, Roberts has decided to maintain the Dodgers' six-man rotation, which will at least allow the southpaw to get an extra day of rest between starts. Ryu lines up to make his next turn Wednesday at home versus the Rockies.

  • Brewers' Adrian Houser: Cleared for Monday's start

Houser (hip) is listed as the Brewers' starting pitcher for Monday's game against the Astros.

Houser's inclusion on the Brewers' pitching schedule to begin the upcoming week implies that the left hip discomfort that prompted his early exit in Tuesday's outing against the Cardinals won't be a hindrance moving forward. While he'll get a tough draw against a powerful Houston offense, Houser could make for a decent lineup option in weekly leagues with a second turn set to come the following weekend versus the Cubs. Houser has posted a 2.43 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 33:9 K:BB in 33.1 innings in his six starts since rejoining the Milwaukee rotation July 30.
