  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Solid in no-decision

Wainwright threw 5.2 innings in a no-decision against the Cubs on Tuesday, giving up one earned run on five hits, striking out five and walking three in the Cardinals' 2-1 victory.

It was a solid outing from the veteran, and a welcome bounceback after he yielded 11 earned over 8.1 innings in his last two starts, but he would ultimately have to settle for a no-decision in this low-scoring contest. Wainwright now sports a 4.47 ERA, a 1.40 WHIP and a 103:44 K:BB through 108.2 innings on the season.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Delivers another quality start

Teheran (6-7) earned the win Tuesday at Washington after allowing two runs on seven hits over 6.2 innings. He struck out six and walked two.

Teheran cruised through the first five frames but allowed one run in the sixth and another in the seventh to end his evening. The 28-year-old has a 1.87 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 33:10 K:BB in his last six starts and lines up to face the Reds on Sunday.

  • Zac Gallen SP | ARI

Marlins' Zac Gallen: Fans eight in tough loss

Gallen (1-3) took the loss Tuesday as the Marlins dropped a 2-1 decision to the Twins, allowing two runs on four hits and three walks over seven innings while striking out eight.

The strikeouts are starting to pile up for the rookie right-hander, who sports a 1.85 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 27:13 K:BB through 24.1 innings since the All-Star break. Gallen will hope for better run support when he next takes the mound Monday as part of a road doubleheader against the Mets.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Pitches well but takes loss

Darvish (3-5) allowed just two runs over six innings but was saddled with the loss in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals. He gave up six hits and no walks, while striking out nine.

Darvish probably deserved a better fate, but Adam Wainwright and the St. Louis bullpen held the Cubs to just a single run. The Japanese righty has had an up-and-down season, as evidenced by his 4.46 ERA overall, but he's been better lately. Darvish has gone at least six innings in five straight starts, and he has a 2.93 ERA in this stretch. He'll look to keep up the strong work in his next outing, which is scheduled for Sunday in a pivotal matchup with the Brewers.

  • Dodgers' Ross Stripling: Won't return after minimum

Stripling (biceps) played catch from 90 feet and hopes to throw a bullpen session this weekend, J.P. Hoornstra of the Los Angeles Daily News reports.

Stripling said after throwing Tuesday that he isn't quite free of symptoms from the biceps injury, though he is "getting close." The 29-year-old is eligible to be activated off the 10-day injured list Sunday, but he'll instead be forced to miss at least one more start. Julio Urias is starting in his place Tuesday and figures to remain in the rotation for the time being.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Beginning minor-league stint

Eickhoff (biceps) will begin a rehab assignment with High-A Clearwater on Tuesday, Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic reports.

Eickhoff has been out since June 17 due to right biceps tendinitis, but after being shut down from throwing for three weeks, he's been given the thumbs up to head out on a rehab stint. Considering he's been out of commission for well over a month, he'll likely require at least a few outings to get his arm back in shape.

  • Dodgers' Tony Gonsolin: Officially promoted

Gonsolin was recalled from Triple-A Oklahoma City on Tuesday.

Gonsolin is expected to join the Dodgers as a reliever despite making 12 starts at Triple-A this season. He's posted a 4.95 ERA and 1.58 WHIP with 41 strikeouts over 36.1 innings for Los Angeles' Triple-A affiliate in 2019.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Remains on track to start Tuesday

Syndergaard is in line to start Tuesday's game against the White Sox, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

With the trade deadline less than 24 hours away, it remains to be seen whether Syndergaard will be dealt by the Mets, but as of now, he remains on track to pitch on normal rest. Of course, that could change in an instant if New York gains traction on a potential deal.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Won't return until mid-August

Mahle (hamstring) isn't expected to be activated from the 10-day injured list until mid-August, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Mahle was placed on the injured list July 22 due to a left hamstring strain, and skipper David Bell doesn't expect the right-hander to return for another few weeks. A firm timetable for Mahle's return should become more clear when he resumes throwing.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Loses rotation spot

Eflin has lost his spot in the starting rotation and will pitch out of the bullpen moving forward, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports.

It was reported earlier in the week that Eflin was in no danger of losing his rotation spot, but that all changed after the Phillies acquired Jason Vargas from the Mets on Monday. Eflin's move to the bullpen doesn't come as a huge shock, considering he's been rocked for seven or more runs in three of his last four outings (15.2 innings), accruing a 12.64 ERA with 12 punchouts over that stretch. Manager Gabe Kapler stated that Eflin will primarily be used as a bulk reliever, especially when either Jake Arrieta or Vince Velasquez struggles to work deep into their respective outings.
