  • Zack Greinke SP | KC

Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: MRI comes back clean

Greinke's abdominal MRI came back clean Friday, and he'll throw a bullpen session Saturday before the Diamondbacks determine whether he'll require a stay to the injured list, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports.

Greinke departed Wednesday's start against Pittsburgh with abdominal tightness, but his MRI brought good news. Even if a trip to the shelf is needed, Arizona doesn't expect Greinke to miss more than two starts.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Lands on 10-day IL

Williams was placed on the 10-day injured list Friday due to a right side strain, Adam Berry of MLB.com reports.

Williams left Thursday's outing against the Padres due to discomfort in his side, and he's since been diagnosed with a strain. A timetable for his return hasn't been announced, though he'll be forced to miss at least one start while on the shelf.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Shut down for six weeks

Walker (elbow) has been diagnosed with a capsule strain in his right shoulder, Zach Buchanan of The Athletic reports. He's since received a PRP shot and will be shut down from throwing for six weeks.

Walker was pulled from his rehab start at extended spring training due to soreness in his right shoulder, and the issue is more severe than anticipated. A timetable for Walker's return remains unclear at this time, though he'll remain on the shelf at least until after the All-Star break.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Bullpen session on tap

Maeda (thigh) is expected to throw "an aggressive bullpen" session either Tuesday or Wednesday, Bill Plunkett of The Orange County Register reports.

Maeda was sent to the 10-day injured list Friday due to a left adductor contusion, though he's only expected to miss one turn through the rotation. If his side session goes well, the right-hander should return from the shelf in time to make a start May 26 against Pittsburgh.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Back from injured list

Martinez (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Friday's game against Texas, Rob Rains of StLSportsPage.com reports.

Martinez wasn't expected back until Saturday, but the team evidently feels confident enough in his health to bring him back in time for Friday's showdown. The right-hander has yet to pitch in the big leagues this season due to a right shoulder strain, though he mowed hitters down during his minor-league rehab stint. Martinez will be utilized out of the bullpen to start with, but a return to the starting rotation at some point isn't completely out of the question.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Lands on injured list

Maeda was placed on the 10-day injured list with a left adductor contusion Friday.

Maeda suffered the injury when he fouled a pitch off his leg during an at-bat Wednesday. The injury does not appear to be serious, and he's only expected to miss one turn through the rotation. The Dodgers have off days both Monday and Thursday, so they won't be required to use a spot starter.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Next start set for Monday

Paddack will take his next turn in Monday's series opener against the Diamondbacks, Dennis Lin of The Athletic reports.

For the first time all season, the rookie looked mortal while taking the loss Tuesday, serving up six runs (three earned) on five hits and a walk while lasting just 4.2 innings. Though Paddack would be available on four days' rest Sunday against the Pirates, he'll be denied a two-start week while the Padres stick to the plan they've followed all season and give him a fifth day off between turns. San Diego is expected to add a temporary sixth starter to the rotation Sunday, with Triple-A El Paso hurler Cal Quantrill probably representing the top candidate to fill the opening.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Effective in no-decision

Lauer limited the Pirates to two runs (one earned) on seven hits in 5.2 innings Thursday but did not factor in the decision. He struck out three and did not issue a walk.

It was a nice bounce-back game for Lauer after getting shelled in Colorado in his previous start, though it bears mentioning that he was facing a Pirates club ranked 28th in the league in scoring. Still, he was pulled one out away from a quality start and gave up fewer than two earned runs for the first time since his first outing of the season. He'll face Arizona on Tuesday in his next scheduled start.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Smashed by Braves

Wainwright (3-4) took the loss against the Braves on Thursday, giving up five earned runs on five hits and five walks while striking out two over four innings as the Cardinals fell 10-2.

Coming off a solid start against the Pirates, Wainwright couldn't keep it rolling in this contest, as he struggled with his command while allowing 10 baserunners. He's had an erratic start to the season overall, as the veteran right-hander is now sporting a 4.75 ERA and a 1.35 WHIP over 47.1 innings.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Moves to 3-4

Teheran (3-4) picked up the win against the Cardinals on Thursday, giving up no runs on two hits over five innings, striking out four and walking four as the Braves bagged a 10-2 victory.

He didn't work deep into the game, as he issued four free passes and needed 104 pitches to make it through five innings, but Teheran turned in a solid line while cruising to the victory as the Braves provided him with plenty of run support. The right-hander now sports a 3.88 ERA and a 1.28 WHIP to go along with a 56:26 K:BB over 55.2 innings.
