  • Rockies' German Marquez: Cruises to easy win

Marquez (4-2) picked up the win in Friday's 12-2 rout of the Padres, allowing two runs on 10 hits over 5.2 innings while striking out seven.

The right-hander was sharp, firing 70 of 102 pitches for strikes while generating 17 swinging strikes, and Marquez gave himself all the offense he would need with a bases-loaded double in the fourth inning. He'll carry a 3.43 ERA and 59:12 K:BB through 57.2 innings into his next start Wednesday in Boston.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: Crushed in Coors

Lauer (2-4) took the loss Friday as the Padres got routed 12-2 by the Rockies, coughing up eight runs on eight hits and two walks over three-plus innings while striking out one.

The southpaw was keeping things together in Coors (relatively speaking) until the fourth inning, when he allowed the first six Colorado batters to reach base before getting the hook. Lauer will take a 5.75 ERA and 35:14 K:BB through 40.2 innings into his next start Thursday, at home against the Pirates.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Fans eight in quality start

Wainwright didn't factor into the decision in Friday's 2-1 loss to the Pirates, allowing one run on five hits over seven innings while striking out eight.

The veteran righty bounced back from his worst start of the season to deliver his longest. Wainwright now has five quality starts in eight trips to the mound, and he'll take a 4.15 ERA and 37:14 K:BB through 43.1 innings into his next outing Thursday in Atlanta.

  • Pirates' Trevor Williams: Delivers sixth quality start

Williams (2-1) picked up the win in Friday's 2-1 victory over the Cardinals, allowing one run on nine hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out five.

Wins have been tough to come by for Williams on a Pirates squad hovering around .500, but he's kept them in the game nearly every time out -- the right-hander now has six quality starts in eight outings. He'll take a 3.40 ERA and 37:9 K:BB through 50.1 innings into his next start Wednesday in Arizona.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Another strong rehab outing

Martinez (shoulder) fired a scoreless inning in Triple-A Memphis' loss to Iowa on Friday, allowing a hit and recording two strikeouts.

It was the latest impressive rehab appearance for Martinez, who's now generated three scoreless efforts in as many trips to the mound at the minor-league level. Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports that Martinez hit 97 mph on the radar gun, certainly an encouraging sign for his recovering shoulder. The right-hander is slated to return from the injured list at some point during the Cardinals' next homestand. He's initially expected to serve as a reliever.

  • Zack Wheeler SP | PHI

Mets' Zack Wheeler: Fans 11 in third win

Wheeler (3-2) picked up the win after surrendering two runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out 11 over seven innings Friday against the Marlins.

Wheeler got plenty of run support from the start, as the Mets struck for eight runs in the first inning. The 28-year-old allowed both of his runs in the third on four hits, but he managed to settle down and finish off his outing with four scoreless innings. Wheeler has posted a 4.35 ERA and 1.35 WHIP with a 58:19 K:BB across 49.2 frames in 2019.

  • Pablo Lopez SP | MIN

Marlins' Pablo Lopez: Lit up by New York

Lopez (2-5) was saddled with the loss Friday night against the Mets after surrendering 10 runs on 10 hits and two walks while striking out three over three innings.

Lopez got off to a horrendous start, as the first eight batters of the ballgame reached base, resulting in an eight-run first inning. He would allow two more runs prior to being pulled from the contest. The 23-year-old had worked to get his ERA down to 4.03 after a rocky start to 2019 (it was at 5.85 in mid-April), but following his disastrous outing, it's risen to 5.93 over 41 innings of work in 2019.

  • Taijuan Walker SP | LAA

Diamondbacks' Taijuan Walker: Hurls successful bullpen

Walker (elbow) felt good during a 23-pitch bullpen session Friday, Jack Magruder of The Sports Xchange reports.

Walker took another step in the right direction Friday by tossing a side session without issue. He recently appeared in an extended spring training game at the beginning of May, so he figures to face more live hitters in the near future.

  • Jose Quintana SP | COL

Cubs' Jose Quintana: Takes loss in quality start

Quintana (4-2) allowed three runs on four hits with six strikeouts and three walks while taking a loss against the Brewers on Friday.

Quintana yielded eight runs the last time he faced the Brewers, but since then the lefty has turned in five quality starts in six outings. Unfortunately Friday, he just didn't get the run support to win. Quintana has recovered very well since that previously terrible start versus the Brewers and is 4-2 with a 3.50 ERA, 1.25 WHIP and 46 strikeouts in 46.1 innings this season. His next outing is scheduled against the Reds on Thursday.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Testing forearm Saturday

Matz will test his injured forearm in a bullpen session Saturday to determine whether or not he'll be able to make his next scheduled start Thursday against Washington, Deesha Thosar of the New York Daily News reports.

Matz is battling a nerve issue in his left forearm which has sent him to the injured list, and which will cause him to miss at least one start. The Mets should have a clearer idea of how many more starts (if any) he'll need to miss once they see how the injury responds to Saturday's bullpen session.
