  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Dealing with hand bruise

Fried was diagnosed with a bruised left hand as X-rays came back negative after he left Tuesday's game versus the Dodgers.

Fried exiting during the second inning after being hit on his throwing hand by a line drive off the bat of Alex Verdugo. The 25-year-old should be considered day-to-day for the time being.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Strong showing as follower

Peralta (2-1) allowed three hits and two walks while striking out five across five scoreless innings to earn the win Tuesday against the Nationals.

Peralta began his outing in the third inning after Adrian Houser worked through two effective innings as the opener. Peralta followed suit, allowing multiple baserunners in only one of his five innings of work. While he still surrendered two walks, he began 14 of the 20 batters he faced with a strike, a positive sign for the potential of improved control numbers moving forward. According to Adam McCalvy of MLB.com, manager Craig Counsell hopes to employ an opener again for Peralta's next outing, which lines up to be at Philadelphia early next week.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Strong outing turns sour

Strasburg (3-2) allowed four earned runs on six hits and two walks while striking out 11 across 6.2 innings to take the loss Tuesday against the Brewers.

Strasburg showed no signs of trouble until the seventh inning, when he allowed four of the first six batters he faced to reach base. That culminated in a bases-loaded double by Lorenzo Cain, accounting for three of Strasburg's four earned runs, with the final earned run coming after he was pulled from the contest. However, there were still plenty of positives to take away from Strasburg's performance, as he generated 21 swinging strikes and held the dangerous Brewers lineup without a home run. Off to a strong start to the season from a skills perspective, Strasburg will draw another tough assignment in his next start at the Dodgers.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Leaves Tuesday's game

Fried exited Tuesday's game against the Dodgers after being hit in the left hand by a line drive, David O'Brien of The Athletic reports.

Fried made a couple warm-up tosses to see if he could remain in the game prior to being removed. The 25-year-old ended up being charged with four runs on four hits over one inning, and should be considered day-to-day until more information is available.

  • Cal Quantrill RP | TEX

Padres' Cal Quantrill: Gets second start

Quantrill is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Mets, Yahoo Sports reports.

The Padres will keep a six-man rotation intact for the time being after Quantrill pitched well enough in his MLB debut last week against the Braves to earn another start. The 2016 first-round pick will test himself against another NL East opponent after limiting Atlanta to two runs on six hits and a walk over 5.2 innings.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Rotation spot not safe

Manager Gabe Kapler wouldn't confirm that Velasquez's rotation spot was safe Monday, saying "I haven't made any determinations beyond tonight," Meghan Montemurro of The Athletic Philadelphia reports.

Kapler's comments didn't make it sound as though a change is definitely going to come soon, but the Phillies certainly seem to be losing patience with Velasquez. His 3.86 ERA this season doesn't line up with his 5.61 FIP, and he's allowed eight runs while walking eight batters in a combined 7.2 innings over his last two starts. The primary candidate to replace Velasquez in the rotation would likely be Nick Pivetta, would was sent to Triple-A Lehigh Valley in mid-April after posting an 8.35 ERA in his first four starts of the season.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Converts surprise save chance

Urias struck out one in a perfect ninth inning Monday to record his first save of the season in a 5-3 win over Atlanta.

With Kenley Jansen having pitched three straight days, the Dodgers' closer was unavailable for Monday's contest and manager Dave Roberts somewhat surprisingly turned to Urias to handle things in the ninth. The young southpaw looked good in retiring the heart of Atlanta's order, touching 97 mph with his fastball. He now sports a 3.55 ERA and 31:9 K:BB through 25.1 innings over four starts and four relief appearances, and Urias will likely continue to fill a variety of roles on the Dodgers' staff as the season progresses.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Fans eight to stay undefeated

Buehler (4-0) picked up the win in Monday's 5-3 victory over Atlanta, allowing three runs on five hits over seven innings while striking out eight.

The right-hander threw 100 pitches (74 strikes) for the first time in his longest outing of the year, and just his second quality start in eight trips to the mound. Buehler will carry a 4.95 ERA and 32:9 K:BB through 36.1 innings into his next start Saturday, at home against the Nats.

  • Kevin Gausman SP | CHC

Braves' Kevin Gausman: Handed loss in short outing

Gausman (1-3) took the loss Monday, giving up five runs (three earned) on seven hits and four walks over 4.1 innings while striking out six as Atlanta was downed 5-3 by the Dodgers.

Slapped with a five-game suspension prior to the start of the game that he immediately appealed, Gausman's focus may have been disrupted, and even one of the unearned runs was a product of his own throwing error. The right-hander will take a 5.00 ERA and 40:15 K:BB through 36 innings into his next start, although when that outing happens will depend on how quickly his appeal gets heard. Gausman tentatively lines up for his next start Saturday against the Diamondbacks if his appeal situation isn't resolved by then.

  • Chris Paddack RP | TEX

Padres' Chris Paddack: Fans career-high 11 against Mets

Paddack (3-1) picked up the win in Monday's 4-0 victory over the Mets, scattering four hits and a walk over 7.2 scoreless innings while striking out a career-high 11.

The rookie was simply brilliant in a clash with reigning NL Cy Young winner Jacob deGrom and reigning NL Rookie of the Month Pete Alonso, generating a massive 21 swinging strikes among his 91 pitches (66 total strikes). Paddack allowed only one runner to even reach scoring position, and he now boasts a 1.55 ERA and 46:10 K:BB through 40.2 innings. With Cal Quantrill getting another start Tuesday and an off day coming Thursday, Paddack appears set to get some extra rest before taking the mound again next week on the road against the Dodgers.
