Julio Teheran SP | BAL
Braves' Julio Teheran: Handed loss in season opener
Teheran (0-1) took the loss after surrendering three runs on four hits and two walks while fanning seven over five innings Thursday against Philadelphia.
Teheran turned in a serviceable outing on Opening Day, although he didn't have his best stuff. He allowed a solo homer in the first inning and two more runs crossed the plate in the fourth. The 28-year-old was solid for Atlanta in 2018, finishing with a 3.94 ERA and 162 punchouts over 175.2 innings. He'll have a chance to earn his first victory of the year Thursday against the Cubs.

Aaron Nola SP | PHI
Phillies' Aaron Nola: Impresses on Opening Day
Nola (1-0) picked up the win and allowed a run on two hits and five walks while striking out eight over six innings Thursday against Atlanta.
Nola surrendered his lone run in the second inning on an RBI single but escaped otherwise unscathed in a 10-4 victory for the Phillies. The 25-year-old right-hander turned in a career-best 2.37 ERA with 224 punchouts over 212.2 frames in 2018, so he'll aim to replicate his numbers from a season ago. Nola will take the mound next against the Twins on April 5.

Jacob deGrom SP | TEX
Mets' Jacob deGrom: Outduels Scherzer
DeGrom (1-0) allowed five hits and a walk and struck out 10 across six scoreless innings in his first win of the season Thursday against Washington.
DeGrom blanked the Nationals over six frames and got the little run support he needed to kick off the 2019 campaign with a victory. The 30-year-old right-hander was dominant in 2018, posting a 1.70 ERA with 269 punchouts over 217 frames, though he notched just 10 wins due to a lacking offense. The Mets will aim to flip the script for their ace in 2019.

Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR
Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Sharp in Opening Day win
Ryu (1-0) got the win against the Diamondbacks on Thursday, scattering four hits and just one earned run over six strong innings, striking out eight with no walks as the Dodgers cruised to a 12-5 victory.
Ryu got the nod for the Opening Day start with Clayton Kershaw (shoulder) sidelined and didn't disappoint, with the sixth-inning solo shot he served up to Adam Jones the only earned run he yielded on the day. The lefty will look to keep it going in his next start, which will pit him against Madison Bumgarner and the Giants on Tuesday.

Zack Greinke SP | KC
Diamondbacks' Zack Greinke: Lit up by Dodgers
Greinke (0-1) allowed seven runs on seven hits, including four home runs, and two walks while striking out three over 3.2 innings in Thursday's loss to the Dodgers.
Greinke was missing his pinpoint command and Los Angeles' hitters made him pay. Joc Pederson touched him for a two-run homer in the second inning before the right-hander permitted three long balls in the fourth. Greinke will put this outing behind him as he prepares for his next start Tuesday against the Padres.

Miles Mikolas RP | WAS
Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Roughed up on Opening Day
Mikolas (0-1) took the loss and allowed five runs on five hits and a walk while striking out three over five innings Thursday against Milwaukee.
Mikolas made it through the first inning unscathed but allowed a solo homer in the second followed by a three-run blast in the third and another solo shot in the fifth. It certainly wasn't what he envisioned on Opening Day, but there should be better days ahead. Mikolas lines up to start Wednesday in Pittsburgh.

Jose Urena SP | LAA
Marlins' Jose Urena: Roughed up by Rockies
Urena (0-1) took the loss against the Rockies on Thursday, giving up six runs (four earned) on nine hits over 4.2 innings, striking out two and walking one as the Marlins fell 6-3.
It was a rough showing for the 27-year-old right-hander, who was knocked around by a talented Colorado lineup in this Opening Day defeat. He went 12-9 with a 3.98 ERA over 174 innings last season, and he should at least offer a steady workload at the top end of Miami's rotation. Urena will look to get on track in his next start, which will come in a divisional matchup against the Mets on Tuesday.
-
Kyle Freeland SP | COL
Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Sharp in first start
Freeland (1-0) picked up the win against the Marlins on Thursday, giving up just two hits and one earned run over seven strong innings, striking out five and walking one in Colorado's 6-3 victory.
The left-hander is coming off a strong season that saw him post a 2.85 ERA over 202.1 innings and his 2019 is off to a good start as he cruised to an Opening Day victory against the weak-hitting Marlins. He'll look to keep it rolling in another favorable matchup in his next start, which will see him take the hill against the Rays on Tuesday.
-
Eric Lauer SP | LAD
Padres' Eric Lauer: Pitches six scoreless innings
Lauer threw six shutout innings, giving up four hits and striking out three, in a 2-0 victory against the Giants on Opening Day.
The 23-year-old posted a 1.07 ERA in his final five starts of his rookie year last season. Lauer had a great spring as well, and it's nice to see him take what he figured out down the stretch of 2018 and apply it to Opening Day. He is expected to build upon his rookie year when he went 6-7 with a 4.34 ERA and 100 strikeouts in 112 innings.

Jameson Taillon SP | TOR
Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Deserves better fate
Taillon allowed four runs on six hits, striking out four, in six-plus innings during a loss against the Reds on Opening Day.
The 27-year-old deserved a better fate. He held the Reds to only one run through six innings, but in the seventh, Taillon couldn't record an out. After yielding a homer, walk and double to start the frame, the Pirates lifted him in favor of Rich Rodriguez, who tossed up a homer to the first batter he faced. Two of the runs scored on the home run were charged to Taillon. It was a disappointing final inning, but there's no reason to worry about Taillon after this lone start.
