  • Logan Webb SP | SF

Giants' Logan Webb: Optioned to minors

Webb was optioned to the minors Friday.

Webb spent the start of camp on the big-league side, throwing 2.2 scoreless spring innings. With just six starts at the Double-A level under his belt, he's likely a year away from pushing for a major-league job.

  • Huascar Ynoa SP | LAA

Braves' Huascar Ynoa: Optioned to Triple-A

Ynoa was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Friday.

Ynoa had spent the start of camp on the big-league side as a member of the 40-man roster, though he was never considered a candidate for an Opening Day roster spot. With just six starts at the High-A level under his belt and an 8.03 ERA in those starts, he's still quite a ways from pushing for a big-league job.

  • Giants' Merandy Gonzalez: Optioned to Triple-A

Gonzalez was optioned to Triple-A Sacramento on Friday.

Gonzalez had spent the first part of camp with the big-league club but wasn't considered likely to make the Opening Day roster. The 23-year-old struggled to a 5.73 ERA in a 22-inning debut for the Marlins last season.

  • Brewers' Brandon Woodruff: Will start Saturday

Woodruff will start Saturday's split-squad game against the Athletics, Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports.

Woodruff was originally expected to get the starting nod Friday against the Diamondbacks, but Freddy Peralta will instead take the mound. Woodruff allowed three walks over one scoreless inning during his first spring appearance as he battles for a spot in the Brewers' starting rotation.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Will start Friday

Peralta will start Friday's spring game against the Diamondbacks, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

Brandon Woodruff had been in line to start Friday's contest, but he will be pushed back to Saturday, and Peralta will take the hill instead. Peralta will make his second appearance of the exhibition season after throwing a scoreless inning in his spring debut last Thursday.

  • Brett Kennedy RP | CIN

Padres' Brett Kennedy: Not throwing Friday

Kennedy will not throw as scheduled Friday due to "general arm fatigue," AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Kennedy was set to pitch during a back-field game but will instead take a break from throwing. The specifics of the issue remain unclear as the 24-year-old is still being evaluated.

  • Alex Wood RP | ATH

Reds' Alex Wood: Throwing in scrimmage

Wood (back) will throw two innings in a minor-league scrimmage Friday, Mark Sheldon of MLB.com reports.

Wood had been expected to return from a stiff back Saturday against the Padres, but it's unlikely that he'll throw two days in a row. Assuming his back-field outing goes well, he should return to spring-training action within a few days and should have plenty of time to be up to speed by Opening Day.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Mows down Mets

Strasburg struck out five over four scoreless innings in Thursday's Grapefruit League game against the Mets, allowing only one hit and one walk.

Facing a lineup that included a number of New York's likely Opening Day starters, including former battery-mate Wilson Ramos, the right-hander simply dominated. Strasburg has kicked off his spring with six shutout innings and a 7:1 K:BB, but the story remains the same with the 30-year-old -- he's capable of delivering ace-level numbers when healthy, but he has only one 200-inning campaign on his resume over a nine-year big-league career.

  • Kyle Freeland SP | COL

Rockies' Kyle Freeland: Out with illness

Freeland was scratched from his scheduled start Friday against Texas due to illness, Patrick Saunders of The Denver Post reports.

Rico Garcia will start in his place. Assuming the illness doesn't keep Freeland out for more than a few days, his preparation for Opening Day should be largely unaffected.

  • Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Nearing return to throwing

Martinez (shoulder) could resume throwing in 5-to-7 days, Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Martinez received a PRP injection in late February and was set to be re-evaluated March 12, so this fits right along that timeline. There's been no indication of any further setbacks for the 27-year-old, but his potential availability for Opening Day remains in severe doubt.
