  • Wade Miley SP | CIN

Brewers' Wade Miley: Six strong innings in win over Cubs

Miley (3-2) allowed one run across six innings Tuesday to earn the win against the Cubs, allowing three hits with five strikeouts and no walks.

Miley went without issuing a walk for the first time this season and induced nine groundball outs as he kept a prolific offense at bay. He allowed a run on a throwing error in the second inning, but be was quite adept at limiting baserunners the rest of the way. This quality start continues a strong run of form for Miley, who's now allowed two earned runs or fewer in 11 of his 12 starts this season. The left-hander will take a sterling 2.12 ERA into his next scheduled start against this same Cubs club.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Pirates' Joe Musgrove: Earns win with quality start

Musgrove (6-8) earned the win against the Reds on Tuesday, allowing two runs on five hits over 6.1 innings. He struck out eight and did not walk a batter.

Musgrove was cruising until the seventh inning when he gave up a solo home run to Scooter Gennett, then hit Phillip Ervin with a pitch with the bases loaded, spelling an end to his evening. The 25-year-old rebounded from back-to-back poor outings, and now has a 3.75 ERA and 1.18 ERA over 103.1 innings. Musgrove currently lines up to start Monday at St. Louis.

  • Drew Smyly SP | CHC

Cubs' Drew Smyly: Tosses successful sim game

Smyly (elbow) threw a successful 23-pitch simulated game Tuesday, Jesse Rogers of ESPN.com reports.

Smyly, who is working his way back from Tommy John surgery he underwent in June of 2017, said he felt great afterwards and believes he's ready to return to game action. The Cubs will likely wait to reevaluate him in the coming days before determining his next step, but it sounds like Smyly could be pitching out of the big-league bullpen soon.

  • Tommy Milone SP | SEA

Nationals' Tommy Milone: Outrighted to Triple-A

Milone (shoulder) was activated from the 10-day disabled list and had his contract reassigned to Triple-A Syracuse on Tuesday, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

The Nationals activated Erick Fedde and Joe Ross from the 60-day disabled list, so they needed space on the 40-man roster, and Milone obviously doesn't fit into the team's long-term plans. He logged MLB ERAs of 5.71, 7.63 and 5.81 in 2016, 2017 and 2018, respectively, so his days in the big leagues may be coming to a close.

  • Yeudy Garcia SP | PIT

Pirates' Yeudy Garcia: Reinstated from suspension

Garcia (suspension) was reinstated over the weekend, Matt Michelone of the Altoona Mirror reports.

Garcia wound up missing the final week of the minor-league season due to a suspension stemming from a violation of club policies. He finished the year with a 5.23 ERA, 1.59 WHIP and 68:32 K:BB across 53.1 innings of relief with Double-A Altoona.

  • Tyler Mahle SP | ATL

Reds' Tyler Mahle: Recalled by Reds

Mahle was recalled by the Reds on Tuesday.

Mahle recorded a solid 3.66 ERA in his first 18 starts of the season before suddenly collapsing and getting shelled for a 16.87 ERA over his last four, earning him a demotion to Triple-A Louisville. He's back up for September, though it's not yet clear if he'll reclaim a rotation spot or will be forced to pitch in a long-relief role.

  • Miles Mikolas RP | WAS

Cardinals' Miles Mikolas: Start bumped back to Wednesday

Mikolas will start Wednesday against Washington instead of Tuesday as originally expected, Joe Trezza of MLB.com reports.

Mikolas will end up with an extra day of rest this time through the rotation and is set to get another extra day before his following start, as Adam Wainwright is expected to return from his elbow injury and slot in ahead of him in the rotation. That means Mikolas will lose a two-start week this week and lose the chance to face the Tigers, though he'll gain a two-start week next week, pitching at home against the Pirates and Dodgers.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Strikes out seven in return from injury

Davies tossed five innings of one-run ball Monday in a no-decision against the Cubs, allowing four hits with one walk and seven strikeouts.

Davies made his first big-league start since May 29 after recovering from a shoulder injury. He allowed a run after a Lorenzo Cain error in the first inning but bounced back nicely and hardly ran into trouble the rest of the way. Davies threw 65 percent of his pitches for strikes while notching his second-highest strikeout total of the season. He had already tossed a complete-game shutout during his previous rehab appearance in the minors and should be near full strength at this point. Davies will look to follow up his successful return this weekend against the Giants.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Strikes out seven in no-decision

Anderson allowed three runs on six hits with no walks across six innings Monday in a no-decision against the Giants. He struck out seven.

Anderson retired the first six batters he faced before allowing a solo home run to lead off the third inning. He allowed two more runs before exiting in the sixth, and although he had a large lead at that time, the bullpen's eventual collapse cost him the victory. This was an improved effort for Anderson, who had allowed a whopping 19 earned runs over 11.1 combined innings in his last three starts. He'll look to build on this effort against the Dodgers this weekend.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Allows one earned run

DeGrom allowed one earned run on two hits and a walk while striking out six across six innings Monday against the Dodgers. He did not factor into the decision.

DeGrom allowed a solo home run to Justin Turner in the first inning but allowed only one runner to reach scoring position through his next five innings. The effort leaves his ERA at 1.68, making him one of only two pitchers -- Chris Sale is the other -- with an ERA below 2.00 for the season. The only downside to his resume is a lack of wins, which speaks to the poor run support he has received rather than his skills.
