  • Jacob Nix SP | SD

Padres' Jacob Nix: Allows three in loss

Nix (1-2) got the loss Wednesday, allowing three runs on five hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings against the Rockies.

It was a much better outing than his last time out, when he got tagged for five runs against Arizona and didn't make it out of the first inning, but it was still the 22-year-old's second loss in as many tries. He sports an unsightly 6.17 ERA in 11.2 major-league innings, but the numbers were much better this year in the minors (1.84 ERA in 10 starts across both Double-A and Triple-A). He'll look to get back on track Tuesday against Seattle.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Grabs ninth win

Teheran (9-7) picked up the win in Wednesday's 2-1 victory over the Pirates, allowing one run on two hits and a walk over seven innings while striking out five.

The right-hander is in a groove, delivering three straight quality starts while posting an 18:5 K:BB in 20 innings over that stretch. Teheran and his 4.09 ERA will get a little more rest than usual before he takes the mound again at home against the Rays next Wednesday.

  • Brewers' Freddy Peralta: Seven scoreless in strong showing

Peralta improved to 6-4 on the season Wednesday after holding the Reds scoreless through seven frames. He allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Peralta had recorded a 6.13 ERA over his previous eight starts, but Wednesday saw him recapture some of the magic from his first four career starts. It was a dominant performance throughout the game for the 22-year-old, who only once allowed a runner to reach second base. His ERA now sits at 4.02, and he's recorded an impressive 11.2 K/9. He's lined up for a rematch against the Reds next Wednesday.

  • MacKenzie Gore SP | TEX

Padres' MacKenzie Gore: Out with fingernail issue

Gore was placed on the disabled list at Low-A Fort Wayne on Wednesday with a fingernail issue, Bill Center of MLB.com reports.

Gore has been on the DL three times this season, twice with blisters and now with a fingernail problem. When healthy, he's posted strong underlying stats (28.4 percent strikeout rate and 6.9 percent walk rate) but a mediocre 4.45 ERA.

  • Nationals' Stephen Strasburg: Activated prior to start vs. Phillies

Strasburg (neck) was reinstated from the 10-day DL ahead of Wednesday's start against Philadelphia, Dan Kolko of MASN Sports reports.

As expected, Strasburg will take the mound for his first start in just over a month due to a pinched nerve in his neck. In a corresponding move, Adrian Sanchez was sent back down to Triple-A Syracuse. Across 14 starts this year, Strasburg has posted a 3.90 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 10.7 K/9.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Recalled ahead of start

Eflin was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to start Wednesday against the Nationals.

As expected, Eflin will rejoin the big-league rotation after a brief stay in the minors due to some roster maneuvering. The 24-year-old right-hander owns a 3.70 ERA, 1.13 WHIP and 91:22 K:BB across 17 starts (97.1 innings) with the Phillies this season. He'll face Stephen Strasburg (neck) in this one.

  • Julio Urias SP | LAD

Dodgers' Julio Urias: Ups pitch count Tuesday

Urias (shoulder) allowed a home run and a walk while striking out five over 2.1 innings in Tuesday's rehab outing with Double-A Tulsa, J.P. Hoornstra of The Orange County Register reports.

Urias' 44 pitches were the most he's thrown on his current rehab assignments as he works his way back from a major shoulder injury. The talented southpaw is inching closer to a projected September return to the majors. Urias is expected to pitch out of the bullpen for the Dodgers, who are currently in a heated playoff race in the NL West.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Dealt first loss

Ryu (3-1) took the loss Tuesday, allowing three runs on four hits and a walk while striking out four over four innings against the Cardinals.

Ryu was done in by a poor third inning in which he allowed a pair of singles and a home run. The 31-year-old has had a relatively tight pitch count in every outing this season, but aside from the start in which he exited with an injury, the 72 pitches (46 strikes) were the fewest he's thrown all year. Even with Tuesday's outing, he's still sporting a 2.27 ERA and a career-best 10.4 K/9 in eight starts. Next up is an interleague matchup in Texas.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Quality start in no-decision

Corbin allowed two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out eight over six innings in Tuesday's win over the Angels. He did not factor into the decision.

Corbin induced 18 swings and misses en route to striking out at least seven for a sixth straight start, leaving in line for the win before the bullpen gave the lead back. The lefty has been having a good season all around, but he's been especially sharp of late; in four starts in August, Corbin is 3-0 with a 2.73 ERA and 32:2 K:BB across 26.1 innings. He'll take a 3.17 ERA and 11.0 K/9 on the year into Monday's start in San Francisco.

  • Tyler Anderson SP | LAA

Rockies' Tyler Anderson: Strikes out eight in loss

Anderson (6-6) allowed four runs on 10 hits in a loss to the Padres on Tuesday, striking out eight and walking zero in 6.1 innings.

Anderson surrendered four extra-base hits in the outing, including two home runs off the bats of Eric Hosmer and Austin Hedges. The lefty has now gone eight consecutive starts without a win and has posted an 0-3 record with a 9.15 ERA over his last four starts. While his season ERA of 4.45 is rather high, Anderson's 1.25 WHIP and .241 batting average against are still respectable figures. His 139 strikeouts on the year are good for 12th in the NL. His next start will be at home against the Cardinals.
