  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Fans 11 in win against Mets

Nola (14-3) allowed one run on three hits and one walk while striking out 11 over seven innings as he notched the victory Friday against New York.

Nola surrendered one run in the fourth inning on a sacrifice fly, but he would cruise through the remainder of his outing, leaving with a three-run lead. The 25-year-old has been dominant over his previous four outings, giving up just four runs and racking up 24 punchouts through 27 innings. Nola will head into his next outing with a 2.24 ERA and 0.98 WHIP with a 160:44 K:BB across 161 frames.

  • Kenta Maeda SP | NYY

Dodgers' Kenta Maeda: Top option to close

Manager Dave Roberts stated there's a good chance Maeda will be called upon for the ninth inning in a save situation Friday against the Mariners, David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports reports.

Maeda suffered a loss in his first appearance out of the bullpen since transitioning from the rotation, as he was deployed in the ninth inning of Tuesday's contest against the Giants and gave up a run on three hits. Despite this, Roberts' confidence in Maeda amid tight ballgames doesn't seem to have wavered -- he'll turn right back to him in the absence of Kenley Jansen (irregular heartbeat).

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Padres' Eric Lauer: To embark on rehab stint Saturday

Lauer (forearm) is scheduled to being a minor-league stint with High-A Lake Elsinore on Saturday, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports.

Lauer landed on the shelf July 31 due to a left forearm strain, and he'll return to game action over the weekend. An exact timetable for his return is unclear, but more news on his status should emerge following his first rehab outing.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Appeals suspension, could start Sunday

Urena has appealed his six-game suspension for "intentionally" hitting Ronald Acuna on Wednesday, and could take the mound versus Washington on Sunday, Clark Spencer of the Miami Herald reports.

Since Urena only threw one pitch before being ejected from Wednesday's tilt, he is well enough rested to start Sunday if manager Don Mattingly should elect to go this route. There is also a chance that the MLB upholds its decision on the suspension before that date, rendering this option irrelevant. Expect an update on this situation in the coming days, though Pablo Lopez remains the probable starter for Sunday's series finale at the moment.

  • Cardinals' Michael Wacha: Begins rehab assignment

Wacha (oblique) began a rehab assignment with High-A Palm Beach on Friday, Jenifer Langosch of MLB.com reports.

Wacha has been out for just shy of two months with a left oblique strain. Given the length of his absence, he'll likely need at least two or three rehab appearances, putting his return sometime in late August or early September, barring setbacks.

  • Alec Asher SP | MIL

Brewers' Alec Asher: Outrighted to Triple-A

Asher cleared waivers and was outrighted to Triple-A Colorado Springs on Friday.

Asher was designated for assignment back on Tuesday to make room for Jake Thompson. The 26-year-old's 5.42 career ERA through 119.2 major-league innings wasn't appealing enough for another team to claim him, so he'll remain with the Brewers in an organizational depth role.

  • Yu Darvish SP | SD

Cubs' Yu Darvish: Ticketed for South Bend rehab start

Darvish (shoulder) will make a rehab start with Low-A South Bend on Sunday, Carrie Muskat of MLB.com reports.

As expected, Darvish will begin a rehab assignment this weekend. He's continued to play catch in the outfield the past couple days after firing a three-inning simulated game Tuesday. Look for him to require a few outings in the minors before being activated from the disabled list.

  • Jacob Nix SP | SD

Padres' Jacob Nix: Rocked by D-Backs

Nix (1-1) failed to escape the first inning Thursday, serving up five runs on five hits with two walks and a strikeout while taking the loss against the Diamondbacks.

Nix was hit hard right from the get-go, allowing the Diamondbacks to bat around in the first inning before exiting with the bases loaded. This outing was a stark contrast from the rookie's first start, when he fired six scoreless frames against the Phillies. The 22-year-old earned his recent promotion after posting a 1.86 ERA and 4.9 K/BB ratio over 58.2 innings across two levels in the minors. Manager Andy Green commented on the rough outing, stating that he can "get an indication of how these guys are wired and how they respond to adversity," which is good sign that the rookie will get a shot to redeem himself. Nix will get a chance to do just that in a tough matchup at Coors Field against the Rockies next Wednesday.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Early exit in nightcap against Phillies

Matz (5-10) took the loss in the second game of Thursday's doubleheader against the Phillies, coughing up six runs (four earned) on five hits and a walk over two innings while striking out two as the Mets fell 9-6.

Making his first start in August after recovering from a forearm strain, Matz got the quick hook after throwing 58 ineffective pitches (31 strikes). The southpaw will take a 4.60 ERA into his next outing Tuesday at home against the Giants.

  • Julio Teheran SP | BAL

Braves' Julio Teheran: Fans seven in no-decision against Rockies

Teheran didn't factor into the decision in Thursday's 5-3 loss to the Rockies, allowing two runs on three hits and two walks over seven innings while striking out seven.

The right-hander delivered his 13th quality start of the season and was in line for his ninth win before Brad Brach fell apart in the ninth inning. Teheran will carry a 4.24 ERA into his next outing Tuesday in Pittsburgh.
