Dodgers' Rich Hill: Won't start Sunday

Hill (finger) has been scratched from Sunday's start against the Padres, Pedro Moura of The Athletic Los Angeles reports.

Hill is on the 10-day disabled list with a finger issue. He was expected to return to the mound for Sunday's series finale, but the Dodgers are worried about the humidity -- the game is being played in Monterrey, Mexico -- so Ross Stripling will get the ball instead. No setback has been reported at this point, and Hill said he's "good to go," according to David Vassegh of AM 570 LA Sports, so it sounds like he'll be ready to pitch during the team's upcoming series against the Diamondbacks.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Goes six strong in loss Saturday

Matz (1-3) took the loss Saturday against the Rockies, allowing one run on three hits and a walk across six innings. He struck out five.

It was a tough-luck loss for Matz, as the 26-year-old certainly pitched well enough to win but was out-dueled by Chad Bettis, who tossed seven scoreless innings for the Rockies. The only run Matz allowed came from a Nolan Arenado first-inning homer, but it was ultimately enough as the Mets were blanked for the third time in four games. The right-hander was able to complete six innings for the first time all season, which is encouraging after his start was pushed back due to back stiffness. He'll carry a 4.23 ERA and 10.1 K/9 into his next start, which will come on the road against the Phillies.

  • Phillies' Vince Velasquez: Effectively wild in Saturday's win

Velasquez (2-4) picked up the win over the Nationals on Saturday, allowing one run on one hit and four walks over five innings while striking out four.

The right-hander threw 59 of 92 pitches for strikes, but he was able to pitch from ahead consistently, firing 17 first-pitch strikes to the 21 batters he faced. Velasquez has failed to go longer than five innings in any of his last three starts, and he'll take a 5.14 ERA into his next outing Thursday at home against the Giants.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Throws bullpen session

Lorenzen (shoulder) threw 40 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

Lorenzen has been out all year with a shoulder strain. He threw 83 innings of relief for the Reds last season, recording a 4.45 ERA.

  • Reds' Anthony DeSclafani: Working back from oblique injury

DeSclafani (oblique) threw 29 pitches in a bullpen session Friday, Bobby Nightengale of The Cincinnati Enquirer reports.

DeSclafani has been out all year with an oblique strain and is ineligible to return before May 28. When he last appeared in the big leagues in 2016, the righty tossed 123.1 innings with a 3.28 ERA. The struggling Reds could certainly use another reliable arm, though it's hard to say how good DeSclafani will be after missing almost a year and a half.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Good to go Saturday

Matz (back) will make his scheduled start Saturday against the Rockies, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

Matz had his start pushed back due to back stiffness but is good to go Saturday. The southpaw has a mediocre 4.98 ERA through five starts so far this season, with a career-best 27.4 percent strikeout rate and a career-worst 10.5 percent walk rate.

  • Dodgers' Walker Buehler: Will remain in rotation

Buehler will remain in the Dodgers' starting rotation, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports.

Buehler was up originally as just an injury fill-in, but after throwing six innings of no-hit ball Friday against the Padres, he's now viewed as a permanent member of the rotation. Through 16 innings so far this season, the young righty has a 1.13 ERA. His 11.1 percent walk rate is a bit high, but he more than makes up for it with a stellar strikeout rate (30.2 percent) and groundball rate (63.9 percent). His innings total could be a concern, as he threw just 98 innings last year, but with the Dodgers already six games back of the Diamondbacks in the NL West, that's a problem they'll have to wait to address.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Will start Monday

DeGrom (elbow) will make his scheduled start Monday against the Reds, Tim Healey of Newsday reports.

DeGrom left Wednesday's game against the Braves with a hyperextended elbow and was initially expected to miss at least four starts. It now appears that he won't miss a single turn in the rotation. He threw a bullpen session Saturday and didn't have any issues, though he won't be allowed to swing a bat Monday.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Optioned to Triple-A

Fried was optioned to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday.

Fried made four appearances in a brief stint with Atlanta this season. He allowed four runs in six innings, giving up three homers. Lucas Sims was promoted to fill his spot in the bullpen.

  • Jerad Eickhoff SP | PIT

Phillies' Jerad Eickhoff: Throws two simulated innings

Eickhoff (lat) threw two simulated innings Friday, the Phillies' official site reports.

Eickhoff has been out all season with a strained right lat. The Phillies expect him to return to the rotation in late May and he appears on track to do so. His velocity was reportedly slightly up in recent bullpen sessions, which could help him get back to being the pitcher who posted a 3.65 ERA in 2016 rather than the one who recorded a 4.71 ERA last season.
