Noah Syndergaard SP | CLE
Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Could pitch this weekend
Pitching coach Dan Warthen said Friday that Syndergaard (lat) could pitch this weekend against the Braves, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
No further details regarding Syndergaard's status were provided, but it appears the bullpen session he tossed Thursday went as planned. Syndergaard would be on some sort of pitch count if he is able to get up on the mound for the Mets, but signs are point toward him making at least one appearance before the regular season comes to an end.

Carlos Martinez SP | SF
Cardinals' Carlos Martinez: Hammered for seven runs in Friday loss
Martinez (11-11) allowed seven runs on six hits and three walks while striking out five over 5.1 innings to take the loss Friday against the Cubs.
Martinez entered the sixth inning with a 2-1 lead, but was clobbered for six runs while recording just one out in the frame, leading to his 11th loss of the campaign. His rough outing was terrible timing for fantasy managers, as this was the first time since July that he allowed more than three earned runs in a game, and should they survive this week, he's a solid bet to bounce back the rest of the way. He'll make his next start Wednesday against the Reds.

Max Fried SP | NYY
Braves' Max Fried: Could start Wednesday against Washington
Fried might be tabbed to start Wednesday's game following the injury to Mike Foltynewicz (finger) during Thursday's contest, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
It was looking like Fried might've lost his spot in the rotation, but with Foltynewicz's injury, the 23-year-old will likely take his place during Wednesday's game. There's a chance that manager Brian Snitker taps Lucas Sims instead of Fried, but that choice will likely be made toward the tail end of this weekend. During six appearances (two starts) with the big-league team this season, Fried has posted a 4.70 ERA and 1.76 WHIP over 15.1 innings.

Mitch Keller SP | PIT
Pirates' Mitch Keller: Leads Curve to championship
Keller allowed two runs in 7.1 innings Thursday, leading the Altoona Curve to a three-game sweep in the Eastern League championship round.
He gave up only four hits, walking one while striking out eight batters. The 21-year-old also recorded a swinging strikeout with a 96-mph fastball on his 90th pitch, stranding two runners to end the seventh inning. Keller made just six regular-season starts at Double-A in 2017. As a result, it wouldn't be surprising to see him begin next season with Altoona. Unless a slew of injuries strikes the major-league club, it's unlikely Keller debuts before September 2018. He remains Pittsburgh's brightest pitching prospect.

Jake Thompson SP | PHI
Phillies' Jake Thompson: Blanks Marlins through 5.1
Thompson (2-2) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings with six strikeouts during Thursday's win over Miami.
Interestingly, Thompson has allowed 19 runs over 15 innings through three of his past five starts and surrendered just a single run over 11.1 frames in the other two -- both against Miami. Thompson posted a 5.25 ERA through 22 starts with Triple-A Lehigh Valley and sports a 4.46 mark in the majors, so fantasy expectations should remain in check moving forward. He lines up to make his next start at home against the Dodgers.

Vance Worley SP | NYM
Marlins' Vance Worley: Allows eight runs to Phillies
Worley (2-6) allowed eight runs -- seven earned -- on eight hits and two walks while striking out just four batters through only 1.1 innings during Thursday's loss to Philadelphia.
This was a spot start for Worley and also his first since Aug. 29, so thankfully, it was difficult to turn to him in the majority of settings. He's now allowed 31 runs over just 20.1 innings through his past seven appearances, so fantasy owners are probably wise to steer clear of Worley moving forward.
-
Seth Lugo SP | KC
Mets' Seth Lugo: Hit hard in Thursday's loss
Lugo was tagged for eight runs, seven earned, over just three innings in Thursday's loss to the Cubs. He allowed nine hits and posted a 4:1 K:BB in the contest.
Lugo was coming off one of his best outings of the season, but he struggled mightily Thursday, serving up the most runs he has allowed in a game this season. Despite the rough outing Lugo figures to remain in the Mets' rotation and make his next start early next week against the Marlins.

Noah Syndergaard SP | CLE
Mets' Noah Syndergaard: Bullpen slated for Thursday
Syndergaard (lat) is scheduled to throw a bullpen session Thursday, Matt Ehalt of The Record reports.
Syndergaard was able to play catch with no issues Tuesday and Wednesday, clearing the way for him to partake in a bullpen session. This is a good sign for Thor, who recently experienced a soreness-related setback. It looks like he could still return later in September, though that's not guaranteed at this point. If he does return before the season ends, he'll likely stick to a light workload.
-
Juan Nicasio SP | TEX
Cardinals' Juan Nicasio: Works ninth inning Thursday
Nicasio gave up a run on two hits in the ninth inning of Thursday's win over the Reds.
The Cardinals extended their lead in the bottom of the eighth inning, so it wasn't a save situation when Nicasio entered, but it's clear that he's now the preferred endgame option in St. Louis. He earned saves Sept. 8 and 9 in his first two appearances with the team following his trade from Philadelphia. Tyler Lyons, meanwhile, worked the seventh inning Thursday. Seung Hwan Oh is currently nursing a hamstring injury.

Odrisamer Despaigne SP | MIA
Marlins' Odrisamer Despaigne: Will be skipped Saturday
Despaigne will have his start against the Brewers on Saturday skipped, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
The Marlins inserted Vance Worley into their rotation for a spot start Thursday, allowing them to skip Despaigne's turn over the weekend. They'll now send out Jose Urena, Adam Conley and Dillon Peters in their three-game series against the Brewers. It's unclear when Despaigne's next start will come at this point.
