  • Chris Flexen RP | CHC

Mets' Chris Flexen: Scheduled to pitch Tuesday

Flexen (finger) will start Tuesday's game against the Rangers, T.R. Sullivan of MLB.com reports.

Flexen pitched just three innings in his previous outing Aug. 2 against the Rockies while dealing with a blister, but even if he hadn't experienced that issue, his night likely wouldn't have lasted much longer, considering he had already served up five runs on eight hits and a walk. It seems Flexen's blister won't leave him with any restrictions as he enters what will likely be a two-start week, barring one of the Mets' injured pitchers returning from the disabled list in time to replace the rookie in the rotation for Sunday's game against the Phillies.

  • Steven Matz RP | TB

Mets' Steven Matz: Bested by Dodgers

Matz allowed five earned runs on six hits across 5.1 innings in a 8-0 loss to the Dodgers on Sunday. He walked two and struck out seven.

The loss, Matz's fifth of the season, extends his winless streak to seven starts, as his last victory came on June 28 in Miami. The third-year big-leaguer's ugly 5.77 ERA and 1.51 WHIP are far worse than his career marks of 3.72 and 1.28, so owners should keep their fingers crossed for some positive regression in the season's final stretch.

  • Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | TOR

Dodgers' Hyun-Jin Ryu: Dazzles against Mets on Sunday

Ryu was spectacular Sunday, tossing seven innings of one-hit ball while striking out eight in a 8-0 win over the Mets.

The impressive victory snaps a four-start streak of no-decisions for Ryu, who only allowed six earned runs and racked up 23 strikeouts over 22.2 innings during that span. He's now 4-6 on the year with a 3.53 ERA and 1.28 WHIP through 17 starts and is doing well in rounding out the Dodgers' rotation while Clayton Kershaw (back) and Brandon McCarthy (finger) remain sidelined.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Strikes out season-high 10 in loss

Corbin (8-11) allowed six runs (three earned) on seven hits with two walks and 10 strikeouts over six innings in Sunday's loss to the Giants.

Corbin's defense let him down against one of the league's weakest lineups, with a pair of errors resulting in three unearned runs. On the bright side, Corbin pitched much better after getting pummeled for seven earned runs in three innings by the Cubs last time out and even racked up double-digit strikeouts for the first time since July 24, 2015. He'll get another crack at the Cubs in his next start Friday.

  • Jack Flaherty SP | DET

Cardinals' Jack Flaherty: Continues impressing in Memphis

Flaherty (4-1) recorded nine strikeouts over seven scoreless innings in Triple-A Memphis' win over Tacoma on Sunday. He allowed just two hits and a walk.

The 21-year-old right-hander has a 2.83 ERA, .215 BAA and 1.09 WHIP in 60.1 Triple-A innings, and as per William Boor of MLB.com, he's given up one earned run or less in five of his last six starts. Flaherty also boasts an excellent 65:18 K:BB in Memphis and appears very close to being big-league-ready.

  • Aaron Nola SP | PHI

Phillies' Aaron Nola: Passes Coors Field test

Nola limited the Rockies to two runs on six hits with two walks and seven strikeouts over seven strong innings in Sunday's no-decision at Coors Field.

Nola twirled his ninth consecutive quality start, continually confounding a tough lineup in the league's least pitcher-friendly venue. Nobody has managed to score more than two runs off him in that stretch, yet a lack of support from Philadelphia's 28th-ranked offense has limited the 24-year-old righty to a 2-2 record in his past six starts. Nola was actually on the hook for the loss in this one until a ninth-inning rally off closer Greg Holland handed his team a 3-2 win. His next start is scheduled for Saturday against the Mets.

  • Jose Urena SP | LAA

Marlins' Jose Urena: Grabs 10th win

Urena (10-5) allowed just a single run on three hits and a walk while striking out three batters through six innings during Sunday's win over Atlanta.

Urena continues to impress and now sports a rock-solid 3.70 ERA and 1.19 WHIP to go along with his 10 wins. His 6.2 K/9 is a disappointing mark, and he's only struck out more than five batters in three of his 18 starts this season. While he's likely to continue providing underwhelming strikeout totals, the 25-year-old righty is still moving the needle in all fantasy settings. He projects to face the Rockies at Marlins Park in his next start.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Tosses quality start in no-decision Sunday

Taillon allowed two runs on five hits and two walks across 6.1 innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Padres. He struck out eight.

Taillon got off to a bumpy start by allowing two runs on two, hits, a walk and a wild pitch in the first inning. He settled down masterfully after that point, however, and allowed just four baserunners over the next five frames. Taillon was in line to earn his seventh victory when he departed, but a blown save by Felipe Rivero sent that opportunity by the wayside. This was a nice bounce-back performance after the 25-year-old allowed a whopping 17 earned runs over his previous 6.2 innings, and he will look to build on this effort Friday against the Blue Jays.

  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Lasts three innings in return

Wainwright allowed three runs on four hits and five walks across three innings in a no-decision Sunday against the Reds. He struck out one.

Making his first start since Jul. 22 because of a back injury, Wainwright struggled to maintain his release point. He threw first-pitch strikes to 12 of 17 batters and threw a respectable 60 percent of his pitches for strikes, but the five free passes were his highest total since April 2016. Wainwright perhaps could've gone deeper into the game, but he worked up to 88 pitches over his short outing and was already staked to a lead before exiting. The veteran will look to provide a steadier performance Friday against the Braves.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Unlikely to return early in week

Manager Torey Lovullo said that Ray (concussion) is unlikely to be activated from the 7-day disabled list in time to start during the Diamondbacks' three-game series with the Dodgers that begins Tuesday, Alex Simon of MLB.com reports.

It's possible that Ray could be ready to pitch in the subsequent series with the Cubs over the weekend, but with Luvullo stressing that the Diamondbacks aren't eager to rush the left-hander back from the concussion, fantasy owners probably shouldn't count on Ray returning this week. Anthony Banda replaced Ray in the rotation Friday against the Giants, picking up his first MLB win while tossing six innings of one-run ball. He would line up for his start during the Cubs series, assuming Ray remains sidelined.
