  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Will remain in rotation

Manager Clint Hurdle said Sunday that Glasnow will stay in the rotation despite his recent struggles, Rob Biertempfel of the Pittsburgh Tribune reports.

Glasnow's two starts this season haven't lasted long, as the 23-year-old has surrendered a combined 11 runs (nine earned) over 6.2 innings. The biggest issue, as with most of his brief career, has been issuing too many free passes. He's walked seven already this season after allowing a BB/9 over 5.0 at both the Triple-A and major league levels last season. Despite those struggles, Hurdle believes "that the greatest opportunity for growth is for him to pitch at this level," so it doesn't seem like the young right-hander is going anywhere any time soon.

  • Jacob deGrom SP | TEX

Mets' Jacob deGrom: Fans 13 in no-decision Saturday

DeGrom gave up two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out 13 over seven innings but was left with a no-decision in Saturday's 5-4 loss to the Marlins.

The right-hander gave up back-to-back solo homers to Justin Bour and Marcell Ozuna in the second inning, but otherwise Miami hitters couldn't touch him as deGrom fired 64 of 97 pitches for strikes in a dominant performance. Despite a 1.89 ERA and 22:4 K:BB through three starts, though, the 28-year-old is still looking for his first decision of 2017. He'll next face the Nationals at home Friday.

  • Reds' Brandon Finnegan: Won't resume throwing for 2-to-3 weeks

Finnegan (shoulder) is not expected to begin throwing again for another 2-to-3 weeks, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.

Further examination confirmed Finnegan suffered a muscle strain in the trapezius area, so this is no longer considered to be a short-term DL stint. Tim Adleman, who was recalled from Triple-A Louisville in a corresponding move Sunday, is expected to work out of the bullpen, so it's uncertain who the Reds might tab as Finnegan's replacement in the rotation.

  • Zach Davies SP | WAS

Brewers' Zach Davies: Surrenders three runs in no-decision

Davies (0-2) allowed three runs on five hits and two walks while striking out four batters over five innings during Saturday's loss to Cincinnati.

Davies entered 2017 with a serviceable 3.92 ERA and 1.24 WHIP over the first 34 starts of his career dating back to 2015. Those numbers don't move mountains in the majority of settings, and especially with a 19.4 strikeout percentage, but Davies was a viable streaming option and NL-only arm. Things have gone much worse to start this season, though. The 24-year-old righty has allowed 14 runs through three starts and sports an 8.79 ERA (4.89 FIP), 2.02 WHIP and 15.5 strikeout percentage. There is potential for Davies to turn it around, but fantasy players should take a wait-and-see approach in all formats.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Collects first save of campaign

Lorenzen pitched a scoreless ninth inning with just a single walk allowed and a strikeout to pick up his first save of the season during Saturday's win over Milwaukee.

Lorenzen was beat around for four earned runs during Friday's opening game of the series, so this was a nice bounce-back outing. He's in the mix to collect saves and pitch in high-leverage situations, and the 25-year-old righty has also fanned 10 hitters through eight innings, so there is upside. He's likely not going to receive the lion's share of save chances, though, which makes Lorenzen more of a complementary reliever than go-to source of saves.

  • Reds' Brandon Finnegan: Lands on 10-day DL

Finnegan (shoulder) was placed on the 10-day DL on Sunday, MLB.com's Mark Sheldon reports.

Finnegan exited Saturday's start against the Brewers after just one inning, and was later diagnosed with a strained shoulder. The left-hander will be eligible to return before the end of the month, but as with any issue of this variety, look for the team to take a conservative approach.

  • Patrick Corbin SP | TOR

Diamondbacks' Patrick Corbin: Takes second loss of season

Corbin (1-2) gave up five runs (three earned) on nine hits and three walks over six innings in Saturday's 8-4 loss to the Dodgers.

The damage could have been far worse for Corbin, who struggled to find the strike zone all game and gave up four extra-base hits. His ERA sits at 2.81 through three starts, but that's not exactly indicative of how he's pitched. He holds identical K/9 and BB/9 rates (3.94) and has a 4.37 FIP, suggesting that an ERA correction could soon be in order.

  • Zach Eflin SP | BAL

Phillies' Zach Eflin: Expected to join major-league rotation Tuesday

Eflin is expected to get the call Tuesday to replace the injured Clay Buchholz (forearm) in the Phillies' rotation, Jim Salisbury of CSN Philadelphia reports.

The Phillies have not made an official announcement, but that will have to come soon. Buchholz is expected to be sidelined for an extended period of time, but Eflin won't be guaranteed a spot in the rotation with all five starters at Triple-A Lehigh Valley on the Phillies' 40-man roster. If Eflin fails to capitalize on his opportunity, the Phils will likely turn to Nick Pivetta, Ricardo Pinto or Ben Lively to take his place.

  • Rockies' German Marquez: Option to fill MLB rotation spot

Marquez is a candidate to take over the spot in the Rockies rotation vacated after Jon Gray (toe) was placed on the disabled list, Nick Groke of The Denver Post reports.

The 22-year-old cracked the Opening Day roster as a long reliever, but with Chris Rusin occupying that role, there was no room at the inn for Marquez, who was subsequently shipped back to Triple-A. Now, following one minor-league relief appearance in which he fanned a pair of hitters in as many innings, Marquez could be called upon to fill Gray's spot in the rotation. Granted, the Rockies don't need a fifth starter until April 28, so Marquez, Jeff Hoffman or Harrison Musgrave (the other two leading candidates for a promotion) may not be called up until the end of the month anyway. Marquez's success last season could vault him into higher regard for the role.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Fans seven in no-decision

Glasnow (0-1) allowed six runs, four of which were earned, on six hits and two walks while striking out seven across five innings, but didn't factor into the decision Saturday against the Cubs.

When the Cubs tagged Glasnow for four runs in the first inning, it appeared as though the hard thrower might be destined for a brief outing. He rebounded with a 1-2-3 second inning, however, and showed glimpses of hope. The defense behind Glasnow struggled and home plate umpire Allen Porter squeezed the strike zone, but the righty did a good job controlling his emotions. Surprisingly, Glasnow's changeup proved to be the most effective weapon in his arsenal. After Saturday's effort, it seems likely he'll continue pitching in the Bucs' rotation.
