Dodgers' Rich Hill: Sent to DL with more blister issues

Hill was placed on the 10-day disabled list Friday with a blister on his left middle finger.

Here we go again. The left-hander's issues with blisters, which ruined an otherwise brilliant 2016, continue, and fears that he'll have a limited workload this season already are coming to fruition. Hopefully, MLB's new 10-day DL will make things more flexible, but Hill owners were hoping he'd at least give them a few more starts before having to plan for his absence once more. We'll have more on what the Dodgers do to replace him, but instead of a tantalizing option like calling up Julio Urias, it may just be a temporary solution. Perhaps Scott Kazmir (hip) will return when first eligible sometime next week.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

Cardinals' Lance Lynn: Takes no-decision in solid outing Thursday

Lynn allowed two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out four in 5.1 innings but came away with a no-decision in Thursday's 6-4 loss to the Cubs.

It was vintage Lynn, as he needed 98 pitches to get 16 outs but mostly held the opposition in check. The 29-year-old was still in line for his first big-league win since Sept. 23, 2015 before Brett Cecil coughed up four runs in the seventh inning. All in all it was an impressive return from Tommy John surgery for Lynn, but he'll get another tough test Tuesday in Washington.

  • Chase Anderson RP | TEX

Brewers' Chase Anderson: Posts quality start in Thursday's no-decision

Anderson came away with a no-decision Thursday despite allowing only one run on three hits and two walks over six innings in a 2-1 loss to the Rockies. He struck out four.

He was on the hook for the loss before Kirk Nieuwenhuis popped a solo homer in the seventh inning, but otherwise it was a very successful first outing of the season for Anderson, who threw 53 of 88 pitches for strikes. The righty will face another dangerous offense in his next start Tuesday in Toronto.

  • Rockies' Antonio Senzatela: Strong outing in big-league debut Thursday

Senzatela tossed five shutout innings Thursday, allowing two hits and three walks while striking out six, but came away with a no-decision in a 2-1 win over the Brewers.

Unfortunately for the 22-year-old rookie, Adam Ottavino spoiled his shot at his first big-league win by giving up a run in the seventh. Senzatela wasn't particularly efficient, throwing 56 of 93 pitches for strikes, but his fastball was touching 96 mph and he kept a dangerous Milwauke lineup off-balance. The righty will make his home debut Tuesday against the Padres.

  • Robbie Ray SP | SD

Diamondbacks' Robbie Ray: Strikes out six, allows three runs Thursday

Ray did not factor into the decision after allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with six strikeouts across 5.2 innings Thursday against the Giants.

Ray allowed just two runs through five innings but was unable to battle through the sixth and was removed with a one-run deficit before the offense flipped the scoreline. He allowed just two extra-base hits but struggled a bit with his command and threw just 57 percent of his pitches for strikes. Ray's six punchouts were unsurprising after he whiffed 218 batters in 2016. The key will be for him to take strides in limiting baserunners this season. He will next take the mound Tuesday on the road against this same Giants club.

  • Max Fried SP | NYY

Braves' Max Fried: Exits with back tightness

Fried made a precautionary exit Thursday with lower-back tightness, MLB.com's Mark Bowman reports.

Fried, one of the Braves' top pitching prospects, gave up four runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out two in 1.2 innings in his first start for Double-A Mississippi. This was his first start above Low-A, so it really shouldn't come as a surprise that he struggled. The Braves were encouraged by the tests performed after he exited, so it sounds like Fried might not be sidelined for long.

  • Reds' Michael Lorenzen: Hits pinch-hit homer

Lorenzen hit the Reds' go-ahead pinch-hit homer in Thursday's win over the Phillies.

The Reds said during spring training that they would use Lorenzen as a pinch-hitter occasionally, and they followed through with that Thursday afternoon. Lorenzen did not pitch in the game, having pitched in the two previous games. However they've suggested that they will occasionally use Lorenzen for multiple innings, and his hitting ability allows them to do that without burning another hitter off the bench.

  • Mets' Noah Syndergaard: On track for Sunday's start

Syndergaard (finger) is confident he'll be ready to pitch Sunday against the Marlins, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com reports.

Syndergaard was forced to exit his Opening Day start after six innings when a blister flared up on his finger, but all signs point to him being ready for action Sunday. Before exiting his first start of the season, Syndergaard was his normal, dominant self and struck out seven batters while walking none.

  • Pirates' Jameson Taillon: Next start shifts to Tuesday

Taillon is scheduled to make his next start Tuesday against the Reds as a result of Thursday's rainout, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Thursday's postponed moved Chad Kuhl's start to Saturday, which created a chain reaction that ultimately shifted Taillon's scheduled start a day later. Thankfully, this alteration keeps the 25-year-old in line for a two-start week. Taillon is expected to go toe-to-toe with Rookie Davis in his next start.

  • Tyler Glasnow SP | LAD

Pirates' Tyler Glasnow: Next start moved to Monday

Glasnow is now scheduled to make his next start Monday against the Reds following Thursday's rainout, Stephen Nesbitt of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

The highly-touted pitching prospect was initially scheduled to make his season debut Saturday against the Braves, but Thursday's postponement threw a wrench in the Pirates' pitching plans. As a result, Glasnow will not have a start this week, although it does put him on tap to have two starts next week. Barring any extraneous circumstances, this sets up the 23-year-old to face left-hander Brandon Finnegan on Monday.
