Blackburn (foot) will be reinstated from the 60-day injured list to start Friday's game against the Angels in Anaheim, MLB.com reports.

Blackburn will make his first start for the Athletics since May 10, when he suffered a right foot stress reaction during an outing in Seattle. Oakland is electing to activate Blackburn despite the fact that he maxed out at 2.2 innings and 49 pitches during his three minor-league rehab starts and was most recently roughed up for seven runs (five earned) on eight hits and two walks in his last outing for Triple-A Las Vegas on July 20. Manager Mark Kotsay said Thursday that Blackburn will be limited to around 65-to-70 pitches in his return, and the Athletics could turn to Joey Estes in relief if length is needed behind the veteran right-hander.

Severino did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning win over Atlanta on Thursday, allowing two runs on seven hits and two walks over five innings. He struck out six.

Severino allowed multiple baserunners in four of the six innings in which he appeared, and while he managed to limit the damage, the right-hander was unable to make it through six innings for the first time in nine starts. Severino has held opponents to two or fewer runs in each of his last three outings, though he's also walked multiple batters in four straight.

Sale did not factor into the decision in an extra-inning loss to the Mets on Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk over 7.1 innings while striking out nine.

Sale was efficient during the contest, with the exception of the third inning when he left a sinker hanging over the plate for Francisco Lindor to launch into the stands in center field for a two-run shot. The veteran lefty then retired 13 of the last 14 batters he faced before being relieved by Joe Jimenez with one out in the eighth. Sale has now given up two or fewer runs in eight consecutive starts, while the home run surrendered to Lindor was the first long ball he's allowed in July. Sale has also posted at least nine strikeouts in four of his last five outings.

Williams (0-3) took the loss against Detroit on Thursday, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out nine batters over six innings.

Williams completed six frames for the first time since returning from an elbow injury to make his season debut July 20. The right-hander recorded a season-high nine punchouts and registered a quality start, but a Javier Baez three-run homer in the second inning was enough to stick Williams with his third loss. The 25-year-old tossed a season-high 105 pitches Thursday, so he appears to be fully clear of the elbow issue. His next start is projected to be a rematch with the Tigers on the road next week.

Munoz allowed six runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three batters over five innings in a no-decision against Baltimore on Thursday.

Munoz struggled to keep the ball in the park Thursday, as three of the six hits against him were homers. He departed with a 6-0 deficit but managed to escape with a no-decision thanks to a late Miami rally. The right-hander entered the contest having not allowed a long ball in three straight outings, though home runs have been an issue for him most of the campaign -- he's yielded multiple homers in six of his 12 outings overall. Munoz has managed to stick in the rotation despite a 5.61 ERA, as Miami doesn't have many other options due to a slew of injuries to its starting staff.

Burnes allowed three runs on six hits and one walk while striking out five batters over 7.1 innings in a no-decision against Miami on Thursday.

Burnes held the Marlins scoreless for five frames before serving up a solo homer to Josh Bell in the sixth. The veteran hurler rebounded with a scoreless seventh, but he allowed a pair of singles and got only one out in the eighth, and both baserunners came around to score. Burnes was still in line for the victory until Miami rallied to tie the game with three runs in the bottom of the ninth inning, and he ended up with just his second no-decision across his past 10 starts. The right-hander nonetheless recorded his fifth straight quality start and his 17th overall on the campaign, which is tied for first in the majors.

Webb didn't factor into the decision Thursday against the Dodgers, allowing four runs on nine hits and three walks across five innings. He struck out four.

Webb surrendered at least four runs and eight hits for a third consecutive start, which has raised his ERA from 3.09 to 3.72. The right-hander also failed to complete six innings for the second time during that stretch after having thrown six or more frames in 11 consecutive outings. Webb's 135.1 innings this season are the third most in baseball, and he has a 115:35 K:BB. Webb is tentatively scheduled to face the Reds in Cincinnati for his next start.

Kershaw didn't factor into the decision Thursday against San Francisco, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks over four innings. He struck out six.

Kershaw made his first start since October 2023 after undergoing offseason shoulder surgery and threw 72 pitches. Kershaw had to shake off a bit of rust, allowing a pair of baserunners in the first inning, but he kept the Giants off the scoreboard until the third frame. Both runs attributed to Kershaw came in that inning, as the left-hander surrendered three consecutive hits, including an RBI triple to Tyler Fitzgerald. Kershaw is on track to face the Padres in San Diego next week and should continue building up to a more traditional workload.

Manager Mark Kotsay said Thursday that Wood (shoulder) is scheduled undergo season-ending surgery, Brent Maguire of MLB.com reports.

Wood has been sidelined since mid-May with left rotator cuff tendinitis. After treating the injury with rest and rehab and receiving a platelet-rich plasma injection, Wood didn't bounce back as well as the Athletics and hoped and wasn't able to resume throwing before he opted for surgery. Wood didn't disclose the nature of Wood's surgery, but regardless of the procedure, the veteran southpaw could face an uphill battle to gain clearance for spring training. The 33-year-old -- who joined Oakland on a one-year deal in January -- will finish his 2024 campaign with a 1-3 record, 5.26 ERA and 1.78 WHIP over 39.1 innings.

Medina (elbow) will undergo season-ending Tommy John surgery Aug. 6, Brent Maguire of MLB.com reports.

Medina has been sidelined since July 13 with a right elbow sprain and sought a second opinion Monday. After receiving feedback from Dr. Keith Meister, Medina has opted to treat his injury through surgery and will miss the rest of the 2024 season, and likely all of the 2025 campaign as well. Medina showed glimpses of effectiveness in the big-league rotation, but he'll end the 2024 season with a 5.18 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across 40 innings.
