  • Bailey Falter RP | ATL

Phillies' Bailey Falter: Falls to Seattle

Falter (0-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing four runs on six hits over six innings in a 5-3 loss against the Mariners. He struck out seven.

Falter got off to a strong start, allowing just one hit through his first four innings. However, he'd allow two runs in both the fifth and sixth innings en route to a third consecutive loss. Despite his 0-4 record, Falter has looked decent at times early in the season -- his ERA is now 4.50 with a 1.14 WHIP and 19:4 K:BB. The 26-year-old left-hander's time in the Phillies' rotation is likely limited, however, with Ranger Suarez (forearm) slated to begin a rehab assignment.

  • Mike Clevinger RP | PIT

White Sox's Mike Clevinger: Hit hard by Blue Jays

Clevinger (2-2) took the loss Tuesday, allowing six runs on seven hits and three walks over five innings against the Blue Jays. He struck out three.

Clevinger struggled to keep one of MLB's top offenses off the scoreboard, giving up six runs in the first four innings while failing to record a clean inning until his fifth and final frame. Danny Jansen started the offensive explosion, hitting a three-run home run in the second inning while plating Brandon Belt and Matt Chapman. Clevinger holds a 4.81 ERA and 1.60 WHIP through five starts and is on pace to regress in strikeouts for the third consecutive year, currently sporting a 6.66 K/9.

  • Marco Gonzales RP | TEX

Mariners' Marco Gonzales: Earns second win

Gonzales (2-0) got the win Tuesday, allowing one run on four hits and a walk over five innings in a 5-3 victory over the Phillies. He struck out two.

Gonzales kept the Phillies off-balance Tuesday, allowing just one run on an Edmundo Sosa home run in the fifth inning en route to his second win. Gonzalez has been solid over his last three starts, allowing four runs over 16.2 innings while striking out 16. The left-hander lowered his ERA to 3.32 with a 1.25 WHIP and 17:7 K:BB through his first four starts of the year.

  • Jose Berrios SP | TOR

Blue Jays' Jose Berrios: Tosses seven scoreless innings

Berrios (2-3) earned the win Tuesday, allowing no runs on four hits and one walk over seven innings in a 7-0 win over the White Sox. He struck out nine.

Berrios turned in his best outing of the season Tuesday, giving up no runs for the first time in any of his five starts and setting a new high in punchouts with nine. The right-hander got out to a blazing start, striking out the side in the first and retiring 12 of his first 13 batters overall. Berrios owns a so-so 4.71 ERA with a 1.08 WHIP and a 9.42 K/9 so far this season. However, brighter days appear to be ahead, considering he has allowed just three runs over his last 19 innings and has gone seven frames in each of his last two starts.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Brewers' Eric Lauer: Tears nail during start

Lauer tore the nail on his left middle finger in a loss to the Pirates on Tuesday, but he doesn't expect to miss a start,Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Lauer struggled over three innings by allowing four runs on eight hits, and he was visited by a team trainer during the long second inning. The southpaw didn't blame the tear for his command issues, but it clearly didn't help. For now, it seems very likely that Lauer will make his next scheduled start, but if there are any side effects it's possible he'll be pushed back a day or two.

  • Tigers' Spencer Turnbull: Lasts four frames in no-decision

Turnbull didn't factor in the decision Tuesday in Milwaukee after he gave up two runs on three hits and three walks across four innings during a 4-3 victory. He struck out two.

The right-hander threw 42 of his 75 pitches for strikes and generated just four whiffs, as he was unable to pitch deep enough to qualify for the win after Detroit's four-run second inning. Turnbull surrendered 12 runs in his first two starts of the season, though he's been better in his past three outings with a 3.77 ERA and 11:7 K:BB over 14.1 frames.

  • Eric Lauer SP | LAD

Brewers' Eric Lauer: Labors through three frames

Lauer (3-2) took the loss Tuesday versus the Tigers, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks in three innings. He struck out four.

The left-hander needed 85 pitches to record just nine outs, with Detroit scoring all four of its runs during a 40-pitch second inning. It's been boom or bust through five starts for Lauer this year, as he's given up 10 earned runs in his two losses but has a 2.37 ERA across 19 frames in his three victories.

  • Blake Snell SP | LAD

Padres' Blake Snell: Remains winless with loss to Cubs

Snell (0-4) took the loss Tuesday, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks over five innings against the Cubs. He struck out five.

Snell once again was unable to pick up a win, but that had more to do with the lack of offense behind him than how he pitched against the Cubs on Tuesday. The southpaw allowed a two-run homer to Yan Gomes in the second inning, but Snell was able to keep Chicago off the board from that point on. Unfortunately for him and the Padres, the San Diego offense was unable to reach the scoreboard against Justin Steele and the Cubs' bullpen. Control was once again an issue for Snell even in a solid outing, as he has walked at least three batters in four consecutive starts and issued 18 overall free passes in 23 innings.

  • Justin Steele SP | CHC

Cubs' Justin Steele: Holds Padres scoreless in victory

Steele (4-0) earned the win Tuesday, allowing zero runs on three hits and two walks across 5.1 innings in a 6-0 victory over San Diego. He struck out five.

Steele was excellent once again against the Padres on Tuesday, and the southpaw threw 59 of 98 pitches for strikes. None of the hits he allowed in the contest went for extra bases, and he's now gone gone five starts in a row to begin 2023 without allowing more than two runs. Steele will take a sensational 1.19 ERA into a scheduled start against the Marlins this coming weekend.

  • Nestor Cortes SP | PHI

Yankees' Nestor Cortes: Handed first loss

Cortes (3-1) was charged with the loss Tuesday in Minnesota after he allowed four runs (three earned) on five hits across five-plus innings. He struck out six and walked one.

The left-hander ran into trouble during the third and sixth innings, as the Twins tallied a pair of runs against him in each frame, including a two-run homer by Byron Buxton in the sixth. Cortes certainly wasn't at his best Tuesday but still produced 13 swinging strikes and kept the Yankees close. The 28-year-old has yet to give up more than three earned runs in any of his five starts this year and has a 3.49 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 28:5 K:BB over 28.1 innings.
