  • Cardinals' Adam Wainwright: Set for another bullpen session

Wainwright (groin) is scheduled for another bullpen session Sunday, John Denton of MLB.com reports.

Wainwright made it through a 28-pitch side session Thursday without issue and could soon embark on a minor-league rehab assignment if Sunday's workout also goes smoothly. The veteran right-hander was placed on the injured list just before Opening Day after suffering a groin strain while doing weight training with Team USA in the World Baseball Classic. Jake Woodford is currently filling his spot in the Cardinals' rotation.

  • Drew Rucinski SP | ATH

Athletics' Drew Rucinski: Nearing rehab assignment

Rucinski (hamstring) is scheduled to throw a simulated game Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

If all goes smoothly during the workout, Rucinski will advance to a minor-league rehab assignment next week with Triple-A Las Vegas. The 34-year-old right-hander signed with the Athletics over the winter following four successful seasons in Korea. He should be part of Oakland's starting rotation by the end of April as he moves past a left hamstring strain that popped up in late March.

  • Lance Lynn SP | STL

White Sox's Lance Lynn: Battled cold symptoms Thursday

White Sox pitching coach Ethan Katz said Lynn was dealing with cold symptoms during his rough outing Thursday against the Giants, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

A bug has been going around the clubhouse, and the White Sox sure looked sluggish in what was a 16-6 loss to San Francisco. Lynn surrendered eight of those runs -- all earned -- over just 4.1 innings of work. He's showing a 9.00 ERA through two starts this season.

  • Kyle Wright SP | CHC

Braves' Kyle Wright: Still on track for April 11 return

Wright (shoulder) said he feels great Friday following Thursday's rehab start with Triple-A Gwinnett and still hopes to rejoin the Braves' rotation April 11 versus the Reds, Grant McAuley of 929 The Game reports.

Wright's velocity was way down and he allowed five runs in six innings for Gwinnett. He did strike out six, though, and it's encouraging that he bounced back well from the outing. Even if Wright does indeed return April 11, fantasy managers might be wise to wait a start or two to activate him to see how he looks.

  • Rangers' Jake Odorizzi: Having season-ending surgery

Odorizzi will be sidelined for the remainder of the season after undergoing arthroscopic surgery on his right shoulder, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Odorizzi missed all of spring training with a shoulder issue and ultimately it was determined surgery was the best route. It's a blow to the Rangers' rotation depth and poor timing for Odorizzi, who is slated to become a free agent after the season.

  • Carlos Rodon SP | NYY

Yankees' Carlos Rodon: Slated for live batting practice

Rodon (forearm) will throw a live batting practice session Monday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

It will be the first time the left-hander has faced hitters since he was diagnosed with a left forearm strain nearly a month ago. The Yankees had said previously that Rodon would be about a month away from a return once he progresses to live BP, so this would put the timeline for his season debut in early May, barring any setbacks.

  • Luis Severino SP | ATH

Yankees' Luis Severino: Will throw off mound Sunday

Severino (lat) will throw a bullpen session Sunday, Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News reports.

Severino expanded his flat-ground throwing to 120 feet Thursday and will progress to the mound next. The right-hander is trending in the right direction as he works his way back from a low-grade lat strain, but a potential return date remains somewhat hazy.

  • Kyle Bradish SP | BAL

Orioles' Kyle Bradish: Playing catch Friday

Bradish (foot) will play catch Friday, Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com reports.

Bradish probably didn't need the full 15 days to recover from his right foot contusion, but the Orioles wanted to play it safe with the right-hander, placing him on the IL earlier this week. He is on pace to rejoin Baltimore's rotation when first eligible April 19.

  • Mets' Justin Verlander: Expects to return in April

Verlander (shoulder) said Friday that he's upped his throwing intensity to 75 percent and expects to join the Mets well before the end of April, Tim Britton of The Athletic reports.

Verlander noted that he's really turned a corner in the last few days and is "really close to being able to take off the leash." The veteran hurler is coming back from a low-grade teres major muscle strain and will need a couple rehab starts before being activated, but it seems as though he's progressing very well.

  • Joe Musgrove SP | SD

Padres' Joe Musgrove: Likely needs one more rehab start

Musgrove (toe) will most likely need one more rehab start before rejoining the Padres' rotation, MLB.com reports.

Musgrove was solid at Triple-A El Paso on Thursday, allowing three runs -- two earned -- over 4.1 innings on five hits and one walk while striking out six. There's still a chance he returns April 11 as initially anticipated, but it sounds like the Padres are leaning toward giving him an additional rehab start before activating him. "We have a lot of things to consider," manager Bob Melvin said. "Obviously we'd love to get him back, but we also have to realize it's a long season, and this is a guy that we're going to need for the long game, too." If Musgrove does indeed make one more rehab start, Ryan Weathers would be in line for another turn in the rotation next week against the Mets.
